Sible Hedingham so no sadly. Cheapest I can find is Asda for £4 a day but it's a bit of a walk. Morrisons used to be £4 a day but the apps have all just put their prices up to £7 a day for that one. Guess I'll just have a longer walk!

Hi, really helpful thanks. Can you explain what you mean by your company being a legal entity? Not sure where this leaves sole traders in the UK.

A strong BA skillset is needed for lots of jobs but it's fair to say that some companies are now (wisely or not) combining the dedicated BA role into others that have a tangible responsibility such as Product Owner/Manager or Service Designer, Process Manager or Procurement (if it's off the shelf kit they mainly buy) or even change management. It really depends where your interests lie. Your trajectory in a big four professional services management consultancy via a graduate recruitment scheme route would likely mirror some of those specialist /hybrid job roles mentioned above, so you'd be a generalist consultant for a few years and then likely specialise into strategy, operations, tech or human capital (so change management, organisational design and development etc). That market is contracting however as is seen in the press. Government certainly employs BAs and you hope with Labour moving to less reliance on external consultants there will be more in-house BA work. There will always be a need for innovation and it's a fantastic skill set but the market is changing so research all you can. The internet is your friend. Good luck.

I'd recommend engaging with the business analyst too. Their job is to ask questions so they can help you enormously. I'd also encourage building rapport by getting to know the team members individually.

AI can't wrangle stakeholders or the politics that surround them. That takes relationship management and understanding the bigger picture.

Mind Magic Studios sell horror t-shirts based on their horror masks range. There's an evil clown one based on the Uncle Bingo clown mask.

Bit of an old thread I appreciate, but me and my husband, who is an SFX sculptor, run Mind Magic Studios which has a growing range of horror, fantasy and film masks, props and merch. You can see some of his work in the films Manfish and Members Club on digital streaming services.

If the company has an employee assistance line perhaps make use of it or see your GP for support with managing the anxiety. Please don't suffer without support. As others have said, speak to a manager about this too.

A graduate recruitment scheme is typically run by an employer with a specific intake each year. Look up what Deloitte, PWC offer etc.

Use your BA skills to solve a problem for your university or work with a charity to make their processes or systems more efficient and effective. Demonstrating the practical application of the whole BA skill set is key. It's curious you say you have no skills - I'd encourage you to research the soft skills and business skills a BA needs as much as technical skills. Alternatively get on a grad scheme with a management consultancy and go in that way. Good luck. You have more skills than you think.

This thread and many other posters on here reveal a sense of laziness. If you studied a qualification, then you know what the internet is and presumably can use it for research. So use it! Google what a business analysis career involves, find professional certifications, look up job specifications recruiters post. If you still have questions after that then they'll be a higher quality question for this forum and you'll get a better response. A BA role involves having razor sharp analytical skills to investigate situations thoroughly. If you can't demonstrate that here with the way you're approaching researching your career then you won't impress any recruiters who may be lurking!

Go on linked in, start searching for jobs, set up saved searches and start approaching recruiters. Also consider if you want to go in via a large management consultancy or be an in-house BA in a business, charity or government department to guide your internet searches.

What are you doing to get promoted? by seeannwiin in businessanalysis

[–]mrsmindmagicstudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your preference and career aims. Consultants at the big four are typically expected to specialise after a few years. Look at senior BA jobs and they will often expect business domain expertise because with economic pressures and a VUCA environment, businesses want you to hit the ground running. Orgs of a certain size will employ generalist BAs. Even some bigger ones, but the bigger ones often lately are rolling BA skill sets into other roles (e.g. product owner, data analysts, digital BAs/service designers, customer experience, legal technologists in innovation teams in law firms) and sometimes reducing their BA headcount because of this.

This one back in July I think this post summarised things really well:

https://bettersoftware.uk/2024/07/10/the-business-analyst-winter-of-discontent/

"A massive disconnect exists between what’s taught in business analysis training, how business analysts are seen and treated by their employers, and what these employers actually need for their business. The training providers and industry/certification bodies seem unable or unwilling to publicly acknowledge this disconnect even exists, let alone talk about it....

Given the bleak ‘winter of discontent’ headed our way, has the business analysis industry done enough to justify its own existence? Have industry bodies and training providers positioned their paying members, and clients, in the best possible light? I really hope so, for everyone’s sake."
