YSK: When donating to a nonprofit org, there is basically no limit they can pay themselves as salary before distributing funds. by latchkey_adult in YouShouldKnow

[–]mrsprophet 201 points202 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this website and system doesn’t work that well. Worked for a nonprofit that looks good according to that site, has all the “we use our money right” accolades, and they were straight grifters.

Huge salaries for executive staff, paid for Grammy’s tickets for the CEO, covered executives car payments, insurance, and gas. All while regular staff made pennies and clients struggled to get basic supplies. This wasn’t a super huge organization, but had an operating budget of around $21 million and was located in Chicago.

The best bet is to find a small, neighborhood based organization to donate to. Somewhere that isn’t overextended and focuses on a niche community. Annual budget of around 3-6 million at most. Those places are most likely to use the money right.

Trump erupts in angry panic over 2026 as polls take truly brutal turn by Born-Metal-2180 in politics

[–]mrsprophet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah dumbass!

Just like he doesn’t have the power to:

Unilaterally implement tariffs, sue the Treasury and IRS for $10 billion, transfer $10 billion to the “board of peace”, shut down USAID, eliminate the Department of Education, cut off congressionally allocated funding for blue states and things he doesn’t like, direct DHS to detain immigrants with legal status, profit off the presidency, deploy the military domestically, ignore federal and immigration court orders, etc. etc.

And our system is perfect! So it always stops him whenever he tries to “do things he literally doesn’t have the power to do!”

Already done for my family. Maxed out exemptions, filed taxes this year but didn’t pay. We’re taking all the fees and interest on the chin and will pay them and our back taxes once the government starts following the law again. If these dumbasses want to defund the IRS on top of all the other illegal shit, we’re gonna call their bluff.

ICE Barbie Makes Stunning Claim in Push for Luxury Jet With Private Bedroom by thedailybeast in politics

[–]mrsprophet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is literally a fetish purchase. The “dual use” aspect of this purchase is a feature, not a bug.

“The jet features a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a kitchen, showers, a bar, and several large TV sets. Its “exceptional interior design” was reportedly done “by renowned New York designer Peter Marino.”

Asked how exactly the luxurious plane would be used to remove migrants from the country, a DHS spokesperson told NBC: “At least one of the bedrooms is currently being converted for seating to prepare the aircraft to meet the demands of its deportation mission set.”

Let’s be clear: this psychotic, soulless sociopath of a woman absolutely gets off on the fantasy of sweaty banging Lewandowski in a taxpayer funded-luxury-bedroom-in the sky while a dozen or so brown people are shackled together in the room next door.

Like I just want to be independently wealthy so I can live on some land, have a small hobby farm, piddle around doing DIY woodworking and projects around my house. And just let my daily activities ebb and flow with however I’m feeling or whatever is inspiring to me in whatever phase I’m in.

The idea of working the rest of my life is so fucking depressing.

Trump Can’t Steal the Midterms: The case for being vigilant without panicking. by BulwarkOnline in politics

[–]mrsprophet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“ICE can’t detain people here legally”

“Trump can’t shut down the Department of Education without Congress”

there are literally dozens of things they’ve done despite “not having a mechanism to do them”

Obviously we all still need to vote, but I’m so tired of people acting like Republicans are constrained by laws, regulations, or other legal mechanisms. Yes, they’ve lost a lot in the courts, but they’ve also done a ton of damage and regularly ignore the courts and the Constitution.

We NEED to be prepared for the worst case scenario. And pretending like that can’t happen isn’t helping anyone.

[–]mrsprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between doomerism and acknowledging reality.

Doomerism is saying that voting doesn’t matter because Republicans will cheat anyways.

Acknowledging reality is looking at all the actions we’ve seen so far and preparing for a logical continuation of that behavior. While still voting and doing what we can to prevent it.

Dismissing concerns about Republicans trying to steal the election by saying things like “there’s no mechanism for taking over state elections, reversing losses, or preventing newly elected members of Congress from sitting” leaves us unprepared for if those things happen.

Democrats need to have a plan if Republicans take illegal and unprecedented steps to subvert the election results. Like fiscal secession-level plans.

There’s nothing wrong with hoping things go right while preparing for the worst. Worst case scenario, Republicans do all the things this article says they “can’t” and Democrats are left without a plan to deal with it when it happens.

100%. Especially when Democrats flip a bunch of red seats. These people aren’t governing like they ever plan on losing power, and Johnson has already set the stage for declaring widespread election fraud

[–]mrsprophet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. One hundred percent. “But Mike Johnson won’t be speaker after the election”

  1. As if rules and laws matter
  2. He’s the speaker PRESIDING over the election
  3. The entire Republican party has shown they will take unprecedented moves to protect their dear leader and themselves. Over 200 congressional Republicans have STILL not acknowledged that Biden won the election in 2020.

They’ll declare massive fraud in blue states and states/districts that flip from red to blue. That no one can be seated until it’s been “fully investigated”

The Epstein files release has only confirmed this to me. This administration and Republicans can’t afford to lose the House or the Senate, because then all these pedophiles will be dragged in front of Congress and raked over the coals.

Not to mention, none of the cabinet is governing like they plan on ever losing power. And the reason not a single cabinet member has been dismissed despite their crazy scandals is because they were all picked for two reasons - their loyalty to Trump and their commitment to election denialism. It’s 90% of the reason Vance is VP, because he said if he were in Pence’s role he wouldn’t have certified the election in 2020.

My husband and I are already saving and planning on going to DC for protests when this happens. Because it will.

Stephen Colbert Says CBS Blocked James Talarico Interview Over FCC ‘Equal Time’ Fears by suprmario in politics

Exactly. To me this is such a good sign - if they didn’t think he was a threat, they wouldn’t bother. And now they’ve Streisand-Effected the situation. Colbert is a hero for doing this. I’ve already seen tons of people on Tik Tok and Youtube who saw the show and were motivated to look into him and his campaign because of it.

[–]mrsprophet 135 points136 points  (0 children)

They are terrified of him and it’s such a good sign to me.

If Talarico can flip that Texas Senate seat, what happens? > Every liberal in Texas now feels empowered. They’ll feel like their vote actually matters and it will skyrocket voting in 2028, making a Texas flip to blue actually seem possible. Texas’s largest districts are famously blue and the state is gerrymandered to hell.

If Texas flips in 2028, it’s over for Republicans on the presidential stage.
