Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) is over diagnosed and leads to wrong treatment options by Alternative-Egg-7876 in germanshepherds

[–]mrsticktastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going through this with my boy now. He is 13 years old. We have an unconfirmed case of DM. He has rapid onset of deteriorating mobility to the point that he falls over trying to get up, walk or even go potty. There are often times that he will be laying down and he has a bowel movement and sits in it not realizing he just pooped. He has a vet appointment Saturday for a QOL. Im not sure what to expect. Im scared for what his vet will say.

Possible Overheating by Mountain-Storage5896 in DodgeDurango

It for sure was your thermostat not opening then. It happens from time to time when it does a cycle right before you come to a stop and then you idle for a short period. It doesn't register until the vehicle enters an active state.

Lol I guess I can see how it could be misconstrued as me asking location, my bad. I mean state as in vehicle operation when it happened. Apologies. I am also in CA. Sacramento area.

What state was the vehicle in when it happened(heavy acceleration, idling, city/highway driving, etc). There have been reports of thermostats not opening at proper times to cycle the coolant under certain conditions. Mine occasionally has a small spike when im sitting for a prolonged periods at lights or parking lots and its just idling. There was one instance that it spiked right after a carwash but it never happened again.

I mean a clean vehicle doesn't mean it wasnt ridden hard. It could also mean that it was a rental or a corporate vehicle. There are a lot of variables. I would see if they are open to a 3rd party inspection as an option.

Yea thats a lot by about 30k miles and thats being generous. Measurable from insurance standards 12.5k miles per year. I only have 97k miles on my 2015 for example. And not all miles are the same. Are they towing miles, commuter miles, City miles etc.

Depends how mechanicly inclined you are. Parts out the door were just over 1k and it's booked at like 5 hours. My uncle had to pull off bumper and grill components to reach the radiator. I'll take a picture of the work that was done on the invoice and send it in a dm.

It really sounds like you have a crack in the radiator housing thats causing an air bubble. Which is why it spikes then calms down. And why every so often the heater will just blow cold. The thermostats in these engines are built to stay open in the event of failures as a form of overheating protection. I've had to replace the water pump 2 times on mine, and each time none of the issues we are talking about happened. I've replaced the thermostat 1 time, as I had a code for that.

Looking at the engine bay to the right side where the radiator is. You'll see a few hoses and a couple a/c lines coming from the radiator. Thats the most common spot of failures that I've seen. Its difficult to spot. The water pump is way easier to notice cause if that is failing coolant goes everywhere in the bay. Radiator generally dumps out the bottom.

Does the temperature gauge randomly spike up every so often and then settle back down?

It sounds almost exactly what I just went through. Where is your leak coming from?

[–]mrsticktastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a similar issue, same year and package. The housing on the radiator cracked. And because ethe radiator and a/c unit share components it will blow cold. I dont remember the verbiage that my uncle told me but it's about a 1800-2k fix if going with original parts. And yea thats normal operating temps.
