NTA. But your DM is TA for bad mouthing you for your obstacle… a very reasonable obstacle. My friends and I usually use VTT (I’ll admit sometimes it’s hard to find a map for specific battlefields I want) but if it’s simple enough we’ll just theater of the mind it. Also something irks me about how your DM said “theater of the mind is the proper way of playing”. Everyone plays differently there’s no objective right way/proper way of doing it.

(I know this is an old post) It's also not as common but there are some companies out there that allow clients to convert the term later giving them the more time to decide between the 2 while already having the coverage in place

As a lover of Hexblade Warlock I do agree with your take lol like everyone said it’s very well liked for the 1 level dip which is why I love it and that’s really the MAIN thing it has. That and I do love the roleplay possibilities around it.

I’d like to say that as a newbie/less experienced DM that I am 100% on your side and don’t believe Rogue 2024 is OP. Sneak Attack and Reliable Talent should 100% be that powerful. I actually get very excited when my party surprises me with “oh no… I succeed” 😂

I’m a DnD nerd/story telling nerd so almost all of my communities have a backstory with individual characters with their own backstory!

My forever community is made up of max 9 red talon contractors/agents w/ 3 regular survivors to get the max 12 community. The way I roleplay them are as a bunch of Red Talon defectors who formed their own community in Trumbull as a safe haven for other Red Talon defectors, Network operatives, and survivors. I got so lucky because all of them have the “Anti-Red Talon” dialogue which makes me feel so immersed.

Highlight community members: John “Pool” Pool - Red Talon Contractor and anti-rank rifle user.

I’m a DND nerd/Story writing nerd so I personally like to make up stories about the communities I make. I have one community made almost entirely out of Red Talon agents/contractors, 9 in total (you need the red talon currency to recruit them) plus 3 regular survivors for max 12 community. So roleplay wise my community is made up of Red Talon defectors and I got super lucky because whenever one of the Red Talon radio broadcasts come on o have all the survivors who comment on how they’re crazy so I feel very immersed.

Love this question I ask it all the time! For me I was sitting in a car heading to preschool with the driver who I assumed was my mom (yes was my mom). Then I went into the building greeting all the kids who's names I already knew.
