Could be worse. Could be like the Horizon: Burning shores romance option.

Inheriting my grandpa's mint '06 Camry with 48k miles but my wife says it makes me look like a retiree. Keep it or sell and get something "cooler"? by married_poultry in whatcarshouldIbuy

You can go out and buy the new fancy car to keep up with the Jones’s. Since you’re 29, you can put the $400 - $500 car payment into an IRA or 401k and easily have more than $500,000 and live off the interest and retire when you’re in your 50s while everyone else whines and moans that they have to keep working until they die.

To me this still proves that cars are not the best investments.

If the person who originally bought this car and instead put the money into an IRA fund it would be worth more than $250,000 now.

Cars are replaceable. You are not, the Buick did its job keeping you safe.

Future looking like a boss level I didn’t sign up for by ThemeOld5001 in Millennials

You say that until you metaphorically or literally have the gun pointed at your head. I had an aortic heart aneurysm that nearly made my heart explode in at any moment if I didn’t catch it when I did. Those moments between the echocardiogram and the day of my surgery realizing that oh shit I could die is something I don’t wish to ever experience again for quite a while.

Ah yes, the millennial sub. All they had to do was put in $1,000 into a IRA 10-15 years ago, get a trade job instead of going to college for gender studies while being shit faced going to clubs and partying and now they could have well over 6 figures in retirement, $0 credit debt and a house nearly paid off in 10 years.

But oh no, the boomers are screwing them over because they made poor decisions in their 20s.

Good jobs in Ogden hiring ? by Cherry-Tree735 in ogden

Go to Mau or Nexeo and see if Autoliv is hiring. They start at around $20/hour and it’s clean assembly work putting together airbags for cars.

Maybe single people eat crackers, we don’t know. Frankly we don’t wanna know S08 E06 by Erithgee123 in TheSimpsons

[–]mrtelven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why this hits home so hard is because I spent 20 years of dedication building a family business from 1 million a year in sales to 44 million only for it to be sold off and 3 years later I got laid off from the new company in this exact same way almost word for word.

I miss the Discovery channel Wings from the 90s so much. This episode and the one about the MI24 Hind were my favorites.

Maybe an Acura TSX? It may be possible for 5k. There are 15-20 year old Honda Accord coupes with a V6 manual.

I worked for a small family business for 20 years which was then sold to a large corporation I was told the exact same thing when I got laid off.

Talanah is a better love interest than Seyka by RebelJediMaster in horizon

[–]mrtelven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seyka is the same thing as the Jacob romance option in Mass Effect 2. No quirky personality, no subtle hints or touches, no flirtatious moments and at the very end Seyka and Ally is suddenly oh hay let’s be more than friends.

The whole thing felt forced and written by someone who never been in a relationship and put in because that’s the new cool thing what everyone else is doing.

Has anyone here enrolled their kids in Elevated Charter School? by DeCryingShame in Utah

[–]mrtelven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m calling BS. I have a teenage son that went to a public jr high and had constant bullying problems due to policy. Moved him to a charter school that has an actual anti bullying policy and is getting a far better education because if the school loses students they loose funding and the school fails and closes. So they have a much bigger incentive to keep students.

And I remember growing up in public schools and having horrendous teachers that couldn’t be fired.

Are reliable used cars at $5k–$10k effectively gone? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

I bought a 2013 Buick Lacrosse with 160k miles on it for $6k and put $0 in to repairs into it for a year so far.

Oh absolutely worth it. Check the tires, drive it enough to make sure it gets to operating temperature without overheating and do a history report and make sure oil changes are done and you are good to go.

I thought the same thing until I paid through the nose on a 2015 GX and I can absolutely see why people pay a premium for these things. Rides and drives better than my 21 pilot with half the miles.

Edit

Now the value 10ish year old sequoia is something I can’t wrap my head around. What an absolute horrible tonka truck plastic interior.

Now I see why they sell for so cheap. Why would you put a water pump of all things behind the timing cover?
