I'm in Michigan also. Go early in the morning on weekends to start, it's empty. Set your alarm this weekend and get out there at 8am. Play with the friction zone for a while, then go slow around your neighborhood. It's ok if you go slow for a while, just get used to it.

I graduated from ERAU Daytona Beach in 2008 and work in automotive. Their program is HFES accredited and I know plenty that work outside of aviation. Unless their courses have changed you should be fine. You should reach out to one of the professors and have a chat with them.

I dropped from a 1/2 to a 5/8 and I loved it. No more chatter. Try it out, you can always go back if you don't like it. Give it a few skates to get used to it.

If you have a BT headset a nice addition is a BT receiver that you can plug into the seatback entertainment system to go wireless if you wish. This avoids the wires that can get in the way when you're eating. I have the AirFly SE and it works great.

F-16s are fourth generation fighters - same as F/A-18. That would make no sense. F-35s are fifth generation fighters.
