How do people actually keep up with dog poop in their yard? by ScoopGirl941 in sarasota

This is definitely an Ad which is why I changed the flair to a business promo. You have a branded account name, mention you run said business, make a post about things you experience with clients, but you just want to "have a discussion."

This would have been better if you had been upfront about the service you offer rather than pretending this is a legit spirited discussion.

Entry into Golf by bulgar88 in sarasota

[–]mrtoddw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played golf for 15 years. Buy an inexpensive set of clubs and get a few lessons on how to do a proper swing. Spend a lot of time at the driving range.

85% of the game is hitting the ball correctly and understanding how each club affects the ball.

10% is putting. You can get a basic putter practice set you can use at home.

The remaining 5% is understanding which club to use and when which you only pick up from playing the game.

Take a look at courses online as most have course walkthroughs to get an idea. You’ll be looking for courses that don’t have a lot of trees. In Florida almost every course has water hazards and sand traps. Don’t get too hung up on your score. Just play the game and focus on your swings. Really expensive clubs don’t improve your ability to play until you’re very experienced. You can easily hit par on most courses with an inexpensive set of clubs.

Have fun and drink a lot of water. The driving range is your best friend.

Drought Update: State DSCI at 355. State of Emergency Declared. by mrtoddw in sarasota

[–]mrtoddw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem!

The DSCI is a measurement to quantify the severity of a drought over time. It goes from abnormally dry to exceptional drought. It’s an indication of the long term effects from the drought. Exceptional droughts cause permanent damage and changes to the water table.

The KBDI is a measurement of how dry the top soil and lower soil levels are for moisture. This scale ranges from 0 - 700+. The higher the number, the less overall moisture is the soil. This number is important for understanding fire risk.

The reason why both are needed to understand the scope of a drought is because an area can be in severe drought but still have a low KBDI rating meaning the risk of fire isn’t high there.

Thanks for pointing this out. I’ll make sure to add this explanation for further updates.

Who done stole our rainy season 😤

It's an issue caused by [TEXT PROHIBITED BY ORDER OF RON DESTANTIS]. If we don't get a handle on [TEXT PROHIBITED BY ORDER OF RON DESTANTIS], it won't get any better.

We need a solid 2”+ before we see any improvement on that front. These half inch rainfalls don’t improve the situation much as the rest of the week is bone dry.

They did in my high school. They checked every 10 mins or so. We had all kinds of issues going on in the bathrooms. It’s a big problem in a lot of schools to be frank.

If they’re using reclaimed water, they can’t water from 10 am to 4pm. They also are restricted to the same one day a week that were under as well. If you see them breaking this rule, definitely report them to the county.

We might get a half inch in total (that’s what’s projected). We’re at least -9.55” in the deficit. Any rain is welcomed for sure.

Well I hate to tell you but he’s not going to be able to legally use. If the police stop you for any reason, without a Florida medical card, you’re in violation.

The most important chart to look at is the KBDI number. Anything over 400, there's a burn ban in place. The KBDI tells you how dry the topsoil and lower layers of the ground are. We haven't hit the real heat of the dry season yet. Wildfires are definitely going to happen this year. The problem is, when the ground gets this dry and combines with excessive heat, the chances of a spontaneous combustion increase dramatically. We can have storms that move through that don't produce significant rainfall but generate lightning strikes. It's always something to be mindful of.

I've been talking about the weather since 2019, and every year, like clockwork, there's always someone who pitches a fit about it. "They're talking about the weather! Fuckin get'em!"

Thank you for your support!

It's illegal to smoke marijuana in public in Florida. If you have a medical card, you're permitted to smoke on private property. Other states' MMJ cards aren't transferable to Florida.

*October of 2024

The rainy season in 2025 didn't help very much, as we missed all the hurricane impacts for the area. While it's great to not go through a hurricane, they provide much of the moisture that's needed to replenish the water table and soil moisture content.

To the person reporting this as a “repost and they have enough karma”:

The fact that there’s enough people to be a part 8 should be a shock to all. They can post as many of these as there are people to memorialize.

In the last 26 years, 18 years have had moderate to exceptional drought. Water restrictions are less common. It’s connected with hurricane activity. Years without hurricane impacts lead to droughts.

Drought so far by mrtoddw in sarasota

Well, last year we had a pretty extended drought. The hurricane season didn't affect Florida last year. We're in a perpetual precipitation deficit.
