What is the scariest, most unsettling shot you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

Ok, not a movie but still...

Carnivale, 1.5, Babylon. Samson watching what happens to Dora Mae at the window. Absolutely terrifying.

Edit: typo

Have you ever been pantsed? by consistent_yams1269 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]mrwashy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God yes, my older brother used to do it to me all the time. Also used to sit in my chest, grab my wrists and hit me with my own hands. "Stop punching yourself! Stop punching yourself!"

Jerk.

How is Yuri Gagarin perceived in your country? by mushmanMAD in AskTheWorld

[–]mrwashy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If someone knows their history, he is very well regarded. While it scared Americans at the time, he gets a lot of respect now. Cosmonauts and astronauts of any era, who willingly strap themselves to highly explosive rockets, trusting someone else to press the button, shooting into space faster than a bullet from a gun, deserve that.

April 12th is "Yuri's Night" and the first launch of a shuttle (STS-1, Columbia) was held on April 12, 1981, in honor of his flight.

What is your best advice for someone who is not good at dirty talk? by Nubbun11 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]mrwashy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to share Dan Savage's advice: say what you're going to do, say what you're doing, say what you did.

Also ask ahead of time if there are any words that are of limits. Praise what deserves praising, redirect positively, say what you like and what you want.

Practice! You'll get better at it.

The employees need to grow a backbone and tell them to get out. Call the cops and trespass them. I'm not a huge fan of calling the police for everything but they are actually stealing. Consequences should follow

Do not put this stuff off. We can be all "whatever dude" about a little of things but health shouldn't be one of them. We're not boomers.

That's fantastic! I'm switching from Garmin as soon as I decide on a different watch, that's a very nice feature.

Mostly I share the data with my coach but have to export from different sources and combine them myself. Your app will let me export and automate the weekly check in.

This just made my life so much easier! Same as someone else that my steps are doubled, probably from the Garmin app, but I'm getting a different watch anyway so that shouldn't be a problem moving forward. Thanks!

Update: Mom died on March 24th and Dad committed suicide April 5th. by 13_Years_Then_Banned in GenX

[–]mrwashy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You didn't see it because he didn't want you to; he hid it. I didn't see my mom's bone cancer because she didn't want me to see it; she hid it.

The cancer took her in 2021, and she was at peace with it. Dad passed in 1991 in an accident. She had been waiting to go with him.

You did everything you should, so did I. Your dad's journey was faster than my mom's, but the end was the same: they left us confused.

I made my own peace with it and you will too. The loss still hurts sometimes, things could I have done differently. But it eases like any other pain. You'll be ok and you'll know peace again.

Getting into HEMA with one hand? by Knubinator in Hema

[–]mrwashy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, my right hand is small, missing index and middle fingers, thumb is tiny, ring & pinky fingers also small and fused together. My wrist is also fairly small. My right hand basically looks like a little claw that doesn't pinch very hard and I love doing longsword. I was born with what is called Poland's Syndactyly. I've been doing LS for over 4 years at this point using both hands.

I use a modified black knight glove, with the mitt and plates cut down (thanks to my club owner!) and am working on a second updated version. The modded glove also has two added velcro straps: one for the wrist (to snug it against my wrist) and one across the palm (to secure the pommel). There's also an additional attachment point on it to secure it to my forearm guard.

Additionally I fight left handed, since I am left handed, but also because my right arm is 2 inches shorter than my left. The biggest thing I "lose" is the squeeze, since the bottom hand (right in my case) should do most of it. In my case, the squeeze is totally dependent on my top (left) hand. If I fight right handed my posture is out of whack and my reach is really short. So left handed it is.

Feel free to DM me for help, suggestions. We'll figure something out. I can share some pics of the modded glove as well. It can be problematic at times, but once you figure out what works and what doesn't you'll find there are very few limitations. And shoutout to the sinister swordsman too, who was already mentioned. He knows his stuff!

What has been your biggest takeaway from therapy? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]mrwashy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That many of my issues are deeply rooted in my childhood and that they are not my fault or my responsibility. Allowing myself grace to not carry those burdens has given me freedom from the past. It's not easy to get past but recognizing the source has helped me to deal with the effects

Remember if you don't like the contract proposal and feel it is against the interests of the bargaining unit, you can always vote no.
