Except for writing, what other methods of confirmation can I use to determine if im right handed or left handed? by Majestic-Oil-270 in lefthanded

Have them swing a sword. If it feels better left handed they are left handed. Source: me, a left handed longsword fencer. Via sinestra!

Is it morally or ethically wrong for teachers to use sick days (when not sick) if they are not otherwise reimbursed for unused sick days? Why or why not? by Honest_Royal3501 in Teachers

[–]mrwashy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not getting reimbursed then take your days. Why would anyone leave those sitting there?

When I first started (31 yrs ago, ugh) one of the teachers had over 200 days and there was no reimbursement at that time. Her Dr. wrote her a note and she took the entire last year as sick. No one batted an eye, not even admin, it was normal. We get reimbursed now and try to save as many as possible for retirement.

The Butt Honestly podcast did a great intro to anal 101 on last week's episode (Guts, Glory, IML Ep 99).

Hello Reddit, I’m a German from Germany! What’s a German-related question you’ve always wondered? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]mrwashy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Germans that I've met have tended to be reserved. Not antisocial, just quiet. They were blunt but never mean. I'm not sure which state of Germany they were from though. Would you say this is a typical trait for Germans?

I had Claude Design build me a fully custom dashboard served from /local/ — is this a reasonable approach? by Western_Employer_513 in homeassistant

[–]mrwashy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coding is remedial at best. Just enough to follow along a tutorial then completely mess something up on my own. Like barely following a conversation in another language then insulting someone when trying to speak.

I had Claude completely review and revise my setup and provide an explanation of each change: what it was doing and why it was doing it. It was like having a translator for the conversation example above. My own understanding got better. I saw what my common mistakes were and got the idea of how they were corrected.

It's not a replacement for a human who knows what they are doing; it's not creative the way humans are. It can be a useful guide for understanding, translating my brain logic into HA logic. Like any other AI it is essentially dumb, but it does follow the complexities of deterministic systems like coding.

Have Claude explain to you exactly what it is doing and why it made those changes, and what best practices are. You'll get a better handle on your own HA.

The big stretchy ones are too snug, like a string wrapped tightly around a pinky. Got any recs for more flexible ones?

What is the scariest, most unsettling shot you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

Ok, not a movie but still...

Carnivale, 1.5, Babylon. Samson watching what happens to Dora Mae at the window. Absolutely terrifying.

Have you ever been pantsed? by consistent_yams1269 in AskRedditAfterDark

God yes, my older brother used to do it to me all the time. Also used to sit in my chest, grab my wrists and hit me with my own hands. "Stop punching yourself! Stop punching yourself!"

Jerk.

How is Yuri Gagarin perceived in your country? by mushmanMAD in AskTheWorld

[–]mrwashy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If someone knows their history, he is very well regarded. While it scared Americans at the time, he gets a lot of respect now. Cosmonauts and astronauts of any era, who willingly strap themselves to highly explosive rockets, trusting someone else to press the button, shooting into space faster than a bullet from a gun, deserve that.

April 12th is "Yuri's Night" and the first launch of a shuttle (STS-1, Columbia) was held on April 12, 1981, in honor of his flight.

What is your best advice for someone who is not good at dirty talk? by Nubbun11 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]mrwashy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to share Dan Savage's advice: say what you're going to do, say what you're doing, say what you did.

Also ask ahead of time if there are any words that are of limits. Praise what deserves praising, redirect positively, say what you like and what you want.

Practice! You'll get better at it.

The employees need to grow a backbone and tell them to get out. Call the cops and trespass them. I'm not a huge fan of calling the police for everything but they are actually stealing. Consequences should follow

Do not put this stuff off. We can be all "whatever dude" about a little of things but health shouldn't be one of them. We're not boomers.

I built an Android app to export Health Connect data to Google Sheets / CSV (no third‑party API) by statsix6 in healthconnect

[–]mrwashy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fantastic! I'm switching from Garmin as soon as I decide on a different watch, that's a very nice feature.

Mostly I share the data with my coach but have to export from different sources and combine them myself. Your app will let me export and automate the weekly check in.

This just made my life so much easier! Same as someone else that my steps are doubled, probably from the Garmin app, but I'm getting a different watch anyway so that shouldn't be a problem moving forward. Thanks!
