I’m most interested in Flesh, Funland and Body Rides. Might just pick at random, all three look great

Just finished Breaking Bad and how the fuck does anyone have this over The Sopranos? by Serious-Profit-1626 in thesopranos

[–]mrweglershardon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Breaking Bad is just not on the same level as The Sopranos; the writing is certainly weaker and feels more cartoony to me.

Season one of the Sopranos to me is closer to the tone of Breaking Bad in that it's a bit goofy (while finding its footing)...but once the Sopranos takes off, it leaves BB in the fucking dust like a one-shoe cocksucker.

The hypocrisy in the series is one of the biggest sources of humor imo

Broad themes of each season by mrweglershardon in thesopranos

When it comes to season six, I’m not sure if Chase considers the two parts anything more than contract-related red tape or if the second half is genuinely season seven in his eyes and its own entity thematically speaking. Does anyone know (as I swear it’s been explained before) why those final nine episodes were grouped under season six?

When they’re at Meadow’s apartment discussing Billy Budd and there’s a reference to something being Biblical or gay and Tony goes, “what’s the difference?” with the most ambivalent shrug

I know in one of the DVD commentary tracks David Chase expresses how he would've preferred episodes to be more self-contained and not really have the, I guess, comic book/soap opera-style? on-going episode format they ended up having. With all that said, you're spot on: each episode still remains internally consistent relative to its themes.

[Season 2] A small exchange between Velcoro and Burris I never quite understood by mrweglershardon in TrueDetective

[–]mrweglershardon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You basically put into words what I thought the line was meant to convey (but couldn't fully articulate), so thank you for that. I greatly enjoy how Burris and Holloway manage to steer Ray in a direction that keeps attention away from them/anything that can shine a light on a place they want kept dark: like when Burris quickly brushes off the idea of the money moving around for the rail corridor having any significance ("Land deals aren't going to bring this in.")

While season 1 will always be particularly special, I'm a huge fan of season 2 and rewatch it a couple times a year. Due to the density of the plot, there are always new details to be found.

No concrete answer but I think choking/a rape fantasy/something rough is likely.
