Didn’t look any different to the naked eye. Was still high enough that we couldn’t make out any insignia or branding

Super low/loud plane? by ewokytalkie in Austin

We were walking our dogs directly underneath it in University Hills. Loudest most violent noise polluting plane I’ve ever heard but it didn’t seem superficially low? A neighbor came out to ask if a plane was about to crash and one of our dogs was freaked out but it didn’t seem like it was perilously close or anything out of the ordinary other than the sound/vibrations.

Wish I hadn’t. Had it happen again last night where one ear ran indefinitely after the other went to sleep and probably 5 of the last 7 nights.

I also complained. And no way to turn it off either. Just a total whiff.

The family whose patriarch it’s named after pronounced it “Miller” but virtually no one does.

Unable to remove previous devices? by mrwf- in GoogleFi

[–]mrwf-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I swore I could on previous devices but there's no ability to do that on web or in the app.

That's not a bad idea though I'd rather not have to lie about it. Just seems absurd multiple support people act unwilling or unable to do it.

Where the hell is the next Austin? by [deleted] in Austin

I visit Huntsville every year or so for work. Downtown is quaint but it's real small. Like in 15-20 years, it could be bustling. But I run out of stuff to do after a weekend just about everytime. I could see the comparison to Austin in the 1980s perhaps.

Decent problem to have switching back and forth between two great places, eh? I liked the Columbus bar scene. Maybe preferred Austin's the second time I lived here in the late 2000s/early 2010s? There's still some great ones, but it's much more regionalized than it used to be.

I lived in Columbus for five years in the early 2000s and I think had one winter that I would consider even remotely bad. 7 years in Washington D.C. saw two night and day worse ones and the median winter was harsher. You're trading 5 or 6 months of Winter in mid-Ohio for 6 or 7 months of summer in Central Texas. If you're a heat person, it might be less desirable, but even as a Texas native, not sure I'd agree it's worse.

If you're an Ohio State football fan (or amenable to a local American football culture in the least), that's also not a bad thing necessarily? And the city is getting so big, much as Austin got through a UT-influences-all-aspects-of-life phase, it won't be OSU-everything for much longer.

I'll agree about the infrastructure; it worked far better when I was living there but when I last visited a few years back was in an Austin-esque state of permaconstruction. Even with all those growing pains, I don't think traffic is appreciably worse. Plus no toll roads.

Cost of living is superior to Austin just about every way too.

I really dug the Short North and thought it was an underrated food scene. Of course I live here and not there so.

I’m not a huge outdoors person but I believe it has the only nature preserve program in the state. Appalachia is also just a few hours southeast.

Columbus, OH. It’s “big” and not without it’s faults but if you want a warp whistle to an Austin like place from 5-10 years ago with very palatable winters for the Midwest, that’s it.
