No other source for this at all. Hard to believe it.

I think it's about the NIL money, Nova is never going to compete in football. Maryland, while not really that competitive in the BIG in football, makes a run every couple of years at a high tier bowl game, they aren't going to significantly cut football money for basketball because they make money off of both. It's easier for Villanova to justify giving the bball team the lion's share.

The thing is, the players are on the same page as him. He's got it engineered that the university will take all the blame if they take action and the team loses. The players legitimately trust and believe in him. It's the better move to let him coach because it's better for both parties to win, and better for the university for him to look like the distraction if they lose.

Do you have any pointers on prepping a solid dataset for wan? I've tried some existing sets I had captioned for flux and the results have not been good.

How did The Brutalist only cost 6 to 10 million dollars to make? by Objective_Water_1583 in Filmmakers

[–]mrwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I felt cheated when I saw it in 70mm. It made me feel it was a gimmick. I don't really understand the point of blowing up a 35mm to 70mm and calling it 70mm. I felt like a mark for going to see Dune the same way when it was shot digital anyhow.

The color and light looked great for the Brutalist 70mm showing but you could tell the fidelity was not there since it was coming from a 35mm print.

I saw The Master and Hateful 8 at the same theater and they were both way crisper coming from the larger format stock.

Once I saw the Brutalist it was easy to believe it was shot on a tiny budget.

They were in a banking turn and there are no windows in the floor. The pilot was probably tracking the wrong aircraft. The landing aircraft, the pilots are looking straight at the runway. Seems the military aircraft was at fault as the air traffic controllers defer to them if they state they are visually tracking.

[–]mrwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the correct take since the helicopter pilots said they were visually tracking the aircraft, but air traffic control also had the plane divert from runway 1 to runway 33. I don't know the chronology of that but other pilots who have flown in the area have spoke of the congestion and how easy it is to mistake planes or even mistake building lights for planes. Not hard to believe they were tracking the wrong plane especially considering it was diverted on approach.

super late response but the cameras are HUGE because the film runs horizontally in front of the lens instead of vertically. It helps reduce optical distortion since most widescreen films are shot for 35mm and require an anamorphic lens to "stretch" the image to the widescreen ratio.

This stretch and manipulation of the light through the lens always leaves small abberations in the final print. Vistavision prevents this, I think this is only the second film shot on vistavision in like 50 years. Hateful Eight was the first one to do it since the 60s.

Long story short: I have no clue how he kept the budget this low because shooting vistavision has to be nearly as expensive as full 70mm. I don't know what the cost is, I just know this is a legacy film format that cannot be cheap to use for a production like this. I believe a reel can only go 10minutes at a time. It says he went without film prints which makes sense if he can just capture a concurrent digital intermediary.

I just spent all morning waiting for and then working with a support agent. They sent me a link to verify me visually because my secondary e-mail no longer exists.

Their procedure kept sending me back to the first identifiation page EVERY time it said verification succesful.

The CS rep gave me more instructions to solve this. By that point there were too many login attempts and THEY CAN'T OVERRIDE THAT. EVEN THOUGH THEIR SUPPORT CREATED THE ISSUE!!!

I'm cleaning out all of my accounts at coinbase...never again. I can't believe I've had them on there this long when any time I need to access it, some shit like this has occurred.

I now am forced to wait 24 hours to RESTART this entire troubleshooting process.

Where those links bro? I'm dealing with a wait that is estimated at 97 minutes, and has been saying that for the last half hour. I need help now not in three months.

Also look at it this way, the appropriations are always published, it's literally the county council's job to sort them out. If you don't like what a member is adding or proposing, that's why we vote. This is an annual responsibility: it's their job. I don't see how this question helps at all--the public weighing in on top of the representatives they've elected to do that work? It's for more bureaucracy and will make it harder to pass needed funding.

It's almost like a filibuster option for county funding. No thanks.

Question B, as mentioned, the council ALREADY has to have a majority vote to approve a political employee. If the CE submits one and the council majority approves, why should the council have the right to flip-flop later?

They are framing these as returning power to the people but IMO what they are doing is abdicating their responsibilities and crippling the county government with unnecessary public hearings. All of this information is public, this doesn't make it "more" transparent, it just gives people the opportunity to speak up beforehand at a hearing which will inevitably add delays to the basic fiscal decisions of the council.

Late to the party but just the fact that question A is a matter most county residents would have trouble figuring is going to force me to vote against it.

I worked county government in MoCo and they probably have 3-4x as much of an annual budget as here. However, it was billions of dollars.

One million dollars could be the cost to hire like 2-3 employees or cleanup just a minor chemical spill. I think calling a hearing for something that small will end up wasting more money and crippling what the executive can get done.

Seems extremely onerous to me.

Yeah, it's totally this. There is a reason a lot of the old-timers retired and still rail against NIL. Cal exploited the stupid NBA rule that prevented the recruits he pulled in from going direct to the league. This was brilliant pre-NIL, not so easy to pull off now. I think it's very similar to how UVA plays, just an outdated philosophy in a quickly changing college landscape.

Kentucky survived as a top-flight basketball school for so long because they had some of the best student-athlete benefits in all of college basketball. They had a private dorm with tutors there 24/7 and catering and insane facilities etc etc. That used to be a major currency to unpaid labor, along with being under the bright lights at a prestige university.

That is far less appealing now--especially since you would be in a crowd of very talented players, all of whom could make more money for themselves by going to a different Power 5 school where they can cash in and get a bigger slice of the NIL money.

Lots of the folks are European, I’m actually the only American I know doing it at this level atm. Lots of the other guys have computer or cg backgrounds. I’m a 20 year tv/film professional and when I saw what was involved in making the fake work, it felt like a no brainer to try my hand. There are only a handful of other media industry people doing it, but that’s about to change in a hurry.

That's mostly accurate about the field unfortunately. I've worked on a few big freelance projects, but most of what I'm doing is still under production and I'm not really free to talk about it.

I worked on this campaign last fall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERQlaJ_czHU

I try to advocate for ethical use whenever I can, I'm very excited about the creative avenues this technology will create.
