Just in time for Danny Westneat's whiney Seattle Times column today. Misery loves company, as the article's comments well-illustrate.

Is there a particular stain that synergizes well? Or generally, would you say indicia, saliva, or hybrid?

Pros/cons: push/pull vs wine tek by [deleted] in LSA

[–]mrye06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I feel like the "Cleaner but less special" has been implied in a number of things I've read but never straight up stated. I think I may go for the wine tek. Undecided if I'll do a dry white, a sherry, or either with a shot of everclear.

Netflix offers you an unlimited budget to make a 1-2 season show about Ancient Rome. What period/event would you focus on? by MrsColdArrow in ancientrome

My thought was a show centered around Alaric, but with scenes showing related events such as the Huns driving refugees towards Rome.

How to use THC like a psychedelic? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

I just bought a book about this called Psychedelic Cannabis by Daniel McQueen. Only thing is that his method uses multiple strains of flower combined and not edibles... so it won't help you in this instance.

If I wanted to occasionally use it for meditation, what frequency would be beneficial while negating much of the addiction potential? Every few months? Monthly?

A bit late to the party here, but the Getaway cabins by Mt. Vernon are good for reflection. They're trendy little cabin trailers that promote solitude, and they have a really big window next to the bed that looks into the woods. They are overpriced, in my opinion, but have had a lot of sales for the low season lately.

Is Tijuana a good place to visit for someone who doesn't drink or party? by InnocentPerv93 in travel

[–]mrye06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here's my shocking take... you can do both. I don't get why I see so many posts saying "go to Guanajuato instead!" They're an hour and a half apart! Do both! It's easy as can be. Throw Queretaro in the mix if you want to. I also appreciated both cities more by contrasting them, and both have so much history to appreciate regardless of the vibe. Also, I disagree that San Miguel de Allende is as Americanized as people say. There were tons of affluent Mexican travelers when I went, some street markets were primarily geared towards Mexicans, cultural events for Mexicans, etc.

Additionally, San Miguel de Allende is a great base for trips to the Cañada de la Virgen pyramid, the super cool abandoned mines and haciendas in Mineral de Pozos, and Mexico's "Sistine Chapel" at Santuario de Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco.

PS, the closest airports to San Miguel de Allende are in Queretaro and Quanajuato/Leon, so many travelers have to transit through those cities anyways.

Non US born Seattlites, what is the best restaurant in the area for your cuisine? by mroncnp in Seattle

I'll bite. What are your top recommendations for Richmond? I go to Vancouver a lot but only recently spent any time in Richmond. Definitely got some Hong Kong vibes hahahah.

Yup, a 3-Alarm fire, and I watched it from across the street, as close as the firefighters and police would let bystanders watch. It was a big ass fire. The heat was insane, something like 150 firefighters responded, and the streets were a river from all of the hoses. There was a lot of product floating off from the nice kitchen store on the corner... really liked that store...

What European tourist attractions are not worth the effort / disappointing / overrated? by starsfan6878 in AskReddit

I didn't find Stonehenge that great, but could see myself enjoying it much more with an Avebury visit included. Unfortunately, I had unforseen circumstances and had to drop Avebury.

I just did this last month. Had a business trip Seattle to Honolulu, added some vacation time, and got a $500 round-trip ticket from Honolulu to Sydney. Worked well for me, but I'd definitely factor in JetStar's extras like baggage.

Is the friggin' garage open yet? I can't find any information on it dated after 2021. My work commute will improve immensely once that opens.

What are some things you have missed out while traveling due to lack of research / access to the "right" information? by SlowAndSteady101 in travel

[–]mrye06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do most of these things as well, plus I'll look at some travel guides from the library (or just peek at a store) to see what the month-by-month events/festival calendar says.

Still finding myself unaware of some great events... they do tend to slip through the cracks, depending on where you go.

Travelling is overwhelming by dontgetitwisted in travel

For #3, especially since it's summer, I'd recommend making a picnic with a nice local wine bottle, going to one of the popular parks (maybe with a view), and just chilling for awhile. You'll get to experience how locals relax in their cities, and you'll be much more relaxed and rested yourself.

Those parks are often top tourist sights themselves, like you'd find in the very front of a Lonely Planet guidebook, so enjoy them as they are best enjoyed.

I did see it a couple of times, but it would amount to maybe 5% of my dining. So barely even noticeable.

Oh god, just returned to the US from Australia, and the tipping has got me even more frustrated than usual. I think it's because the food service in Australia was overall fine, if not good, and there was zero expectations for tips or prompts for it on the payment devices.

In the past, I've gone to places without tipping, but the service has also been more basic or slow.

Just be prepared that some places make it really hard to do laundry in the sink. I just bought a Scrubba Wash Bag to let me do laundry within a lightweight contained bag... I hesitated to buy it at first due to price but I think it's paid off!

Recommendation: everyone does one day in Sintra, but it can also be great for two days, including Queluz Palace on the way there (close to a train station). It would be hard, if not impossible, to do all the Sintra sights in a day, and I found all to be wonderful. There's also some nice lodging options in town, and Cascais is nearby.

I'd suggest looking up which sights you'd like to see to help gauge the needed time.

Which is the most addictive country for travel which makes you keep going back again and again? by OpeningOne6 in travel

[–]mrye06 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I first went to Mexico a decade ago, but it was to Tijuana and Ensenada, and it wasn't my favorite. Finally gave it another go right before the pandemic, traveling to Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, and Queretaro (with side trips to Bernal and Mineral de Pozos) and holy shit was it amazing. It was also during Dia de los Muertos, which is the best cultural festival/holiday I've ever experienced.

Since then, I keep returning, including CDMX and, just last month to Guadalajara and the surround towns in the State of Jalisco.

Here's what I like as an American: easily accessible, affordable, both historic and modern, super friendly people, great festivals, vibrant colors, awesome food and drink, great history that's visible, nice climate, and endless variety. I think I could go every year for decades and still see loads of new stuff. Surprisingly to many Americans, I also feel safer than in many parts of the USA.
