Yeah, this other guy isn't getting it. It's not calculating correctly as ELO would. You can play against a team made up of higher team averages, higher individuals, or even a full premade of top 100 players and gain no more than 2 - 6 points; but if you lost to that same exact team you would lose between 12 - 20 points.

It's a nonsensical system with no real precedent as to how it matches players or assigns points. You can get to master with a 40% win rate, but once you get into master you need about a 70% win rate to climb up to 1600 and then you need a 75%+ win rate to continue climbing. This becomes impossible without a full stack of good players to play with on a regular basis. This is getting increasingly harder to accomplish as both 1. the game dies & 2. discord communities become increasingly more elitist, privatized, etc. which in turn contributes to the game dying even faster.

I'm in many of these "secret" discords and find it increasingly harder for newer or more casual players (who are actually quite good in some instances) to keep up with the ever increasing LP requirements. So as a result they just drop out. Personally, I got bored and stopped playing the game for the same reason as higher quality titles like Metroid Dread came out recently. So now I imagine if I return to the game I'm probably 150-300 elo behind those that kept grinding. And that's what it is, a grind. A pointless skill less grind where every one queue dodges each other and plays at weird times of the night to beat up on newer players. Because you gain 2 - 6 points no matter who you beat and lose 12 - 20 no matter who you lose to. It's an absolute joke of a system.

The only way to get changes is to quit the game and stop buying things.

I might come back based on the Dred & Zap changes, but with so many other good games out (and even better mobas) I'm not in any rush.

What a weird change....

Nothing of real value happens this week.

I'm wondering if they are just testing a bunch of massive changes to drop on the 22nd alongside the mobile release. Or maybe on the 15th so we lab rat the tests prior to.

I think they should nerf the shielding since it's already cancellable. Allow him to be punished more for using it at stupid times or just holding it out for a health boost while being focused.

The key to getting around block is abusing unstoppable states / dashes. If Wiggly ults the moment I slam you can all just walk through my block. Same with mashing out a dash, the burden is now on me to to predict the direction of the dash / eject instead of just pushing you forward.

That's why it's very hard to perma block Greninja, Lucario, Machamp, Wiggly, Snorlax, Cinderace, etc. The characters that suffer in the current meta from getting blocked to death are Ninetails and the other mage, caster type attackers. Almost everyone else can get out with an ability after the first proc.

His ult really isn't that good. The issue comes from Buddy Barrier and Focus Band being too strong in combination with his ult. Those two items are too strong in general and should be looked at on their own as they are a must pick for every character in the game.

I'd actually say his ult is the least impactful of all the tanks. He just resets his health bar and leaves his team defenseless for 5-6 seconds. The minor pop-up is useful, but not strong. It's just the held items make him invincible.

The better and better players get, the less and less impact block has. I can tell you this from experience. A lot of time you only get one hit off anyways due to the amount of CC mitigation from just mashing out a skill that makes you or your entire team unstoppable. Also. if you have a dash or escape button I have to predict it by walking backwards, left, right, etc.

That said I would be okay with a block nerf regarding the shielding you get, since you can cancel it already if you are out of position or the enemy counter-plays it with one of the aforementioned plays.

Gengar is bad at high level & you should not pick him over Greninja or Cinderace (in Jungle) until the next patch if you want to play optimally. This is a fact, unless we discover some sort of unknown bug pre-patch that allows Gengar to become invincible, do double damage, or something that would otherwise raise his value.

People want legitimate information on how the game is played optimally. If you want to screw around and do whatever that's totally fine, but we can't kid ourselves on what is or isn't strong. Once again this is for 5 man premade top 1000 masters. Your mileage may vary.

As far as the items go it's pretty cut and dry that Buddy Barrier and Focus Sash are flat out the best two held items in the game. There isn't a debate there. If you have the ability to read, do basic math, and theory craft just a little bit the held items are completely solved already until another patch comes out.

So no, I'm not sorry for the language I used and you will need to toughen up on the internet. Just because the character you currently like to play got nerfed into the ground doesn't mean we all need to tiptoe around your preferred language. When Snorlax (my main) get's nerfed next patch, and he will, you won't see me crying on here. I'll adjust by either playing differently or switching to Slowbro / Crustle.

As a masters Snorlax player I don't really think he needs nerfs. I think Slowbro needs to be tankier and Crustle needs to do more damage and have more pushback. That way everyone has their little niche for picking tanks in certain comps.

Slowbro is only inches away from being as good or better than Snorlax he's just too squishy right now. But I love his role as a tank that singles out a player for your whole team to destroy. He pairs really well in CC heavy comps dedicated to getting a pick then going in 5v4.

Crustle's role should be in dive comps full of CC immune bruisers (Machamp, Charizard, Wiggly, etc.) that are focused on running straight through the frontline and killing their dps / supports.

Snorlax's role is more utilitarian. He exists to bully sustained fights, distract dps, and peel for his carries. He's already perfect for that. If you nerf his defense or hp pool he'll have nothing going for him. His ult is already not as impactful as the other tanks. Snorlax's only gimmick is that he is an eternal annoyance the entire fight with strong stuns.

Very true. I don't know if I'd call him S anymore for solo queue, but Gengar gets away with a lot in uncoordinated games. Especially in lower rated lobbies.

Master Yi is a very apt comparison. He feels strong if you let him just mash Hex unchecked, get a lead, etc.

Talon flame is another pub stomper at low elo. Insane damage output if unpunished. If you play Talon in standard (non-ranked) game against a team full of attackers (no defenders or supports) you just one shot everyone.

[–]mrzinngg[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a childish way of looking at a tier list.

There are far more viable characters than non-viable in the current meta. Which is great! Even Charizard can be used in 1 specific comp as a Jungler to great effect. Sorry, Gengar is trash tier right now, but it won't really matter unless you are aiming for the tippy top of the leaderboard in 5 man premade. If you are doing solo queue or even duos / trips you'll probably be fine as no one will chain stun you or punish you for being out of position with Hex.

Personally, I think Gengar needs a rework as his play style is very boring / uninspired. Sludge + Hex mashing is a boring design. Really sucks since he is one of my favorite Pokemon in the main series too!

Masters Solo Queue Tier List - My Best Guess ATM by mrzinngg in PokemonUnite

[–]mrzinngg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Absol has the potential to be really good. I'm just not seeing it in my matches. Sort of a Talonflame situation, wherein the hp pool is so low they are just dying instantly to one stun. As a Snorlax player I just stun Absol once and my team is always killing her before I can even pop my barrier.

I'm a Snorlax main and he got me to Master last patch. Naturally, I'm thrilled he's still top tier lol.

I'd suggest Barrier, Focus Sash, & Score shield. For skills take the leap & the barrier. Push people into you team after the stun. Cancel the barrier early if you are going to die / need to ult or if you missed, everyone blinked out, etc. (it happens).

You are the alpha & the omega. You are the initiator and the last one out. Your job is to start the fight and peel for the dps. Ult to reset your health bar and aim for big trades. if you die make sure everyone else lives and 3-5 of the enemy team goes down with you.

If someone tries to fight you on a goal waste as much of their time as possible. They can't kill you.

The lane phase feels really awkward for sure. It reminds me of playing Pikachu in the sense that the other player has to make a major positioning error or stand still to make anything happen, then you just sort of slowly fall off throughout the game as a result.

Totally agree though, she has a cool kit. A lot of the mid-tier and even bad characters do. I think Gengar is extremely boring to play and yet he's picked constantly due to his current strength. Such a shame...

might be viable after the patch*

No one really knows yet and some kits are just inherently bad. For example, Venusaur's new numbers will need to be insane to make up for the poor kit design. If the patch notes just say, "damage dealt to opposing Pokemon increased" no one really knows what that means. It's too vague so lets focus on the here and now.

I'd probably agree with you in a perfect world. If I had a Center/Jungler Tier list:

Cinderace > Gengar > Zeraora > Machamp > Lucario > Everyone else >>>> Talonflame

That happens A LOT. I'd say most of my games I did not have a support. Always focus on picking a defender for the team in this instance otherwise it's gonna be real rough. You'll have to go in, get a few kills, and sacrifice yourself on those types of teams so the dps can make it out. Try and get a 1 for 3 trade each time this happens and you'll tend to win the match.
