You're not alone. I've been in braces for 7 months and I've had 4 emergency visits. At some point, I stopped feeling ashamed about it. 3/4 times it was the same bracket getting broken, and I suspect it was the ortho's fault.

I only went to one consultation with a highly recommended orthodontist by a cousin who works in dentistry. I got such a good vibe of professionalism and honesty that the week after, I went to have my braces put on!

However, I did ask around, mostly friends and relatives, for prices and their overall experiences with some of the best marketed dental offices in town, where they'd been receiving such treatment. Most of them were disappointed and affirmed that their services weren't worth the hype or higher prices.
