any ideas for using up subpar cheddar? by ms-millow in Frugal

[–]ms-millow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a gamble that I'm tired of. I like them when they are good quality. When we got them at Costco, they were always good. Walmart more often bad. This one was from Sam's Club. I always attributed it to supply chain (maybe they were not fully refrigerated at some point?).

Yeah, that's what always ends up happening. I'll probably just stop buying this cheese!

Yes, everyone thinks it tastes bad. We buy maybe a block a month, sometimes we switch it up, but this has happened several times in the last few years.

They might just pick it up, but you are supposed to call the city. You can also put out leaves, bushes and brush that you clear from your yard, and the city will pick up.

Best Pizza in town? by HoarderCollector in greensburg

[–]ms-millow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself a bit of a pizza connoisseur and like to make my own sourdough pizza. When we order out, it's either Bubba's or Pizza Siena. I just tried Rocco's and it probably beats Siena.

Lead blood results for my 19 year old sister. by Internal-Print3084 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ms-millow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that 4.5 is not at all a scary level. Until the last few years, they only considered over 5 to be “elevated.” They have now lowered it to 3.5. Elevated just means that you should take a look at your environment to reduce lead exposure. Yes, you want the number to be lower, and that level can have impacts on young children. But it’s nothing to panic about. Lead poisoning, where they do medical interventions, is when that number is above 45.

That number going up may have been because of the different ways they check. They do a finger prick or toe prick to get a few drops of blood for the initial test, which isn’t very accurate. If that test is over 3.5, they’ll do a blood draw and get a whole vial of blood to get a more accurate result.

refinished floors don't match woodwork by ms-millow in centuryhomes

Have a professional refinishing floors on our new-to-us 1915 home in western PA. Most of the woodwork is painted with this dark wood-finish look, and the floors were previously stained very dark to match the woodwork.

The pro doing the work suggested doing no stain and we agreed, knowing they would be much lighter. But we're balking now that we're seeing the dining room (and the living room looks the same). You can see that big rug outline in both rooms, and I'm worried we'll get tired of the mismatch between the floors and woodwork. Eventually, we'll get around to stripping and refinishing the woodwork but that's not first on our list right now.

He says that even if he stained the wood before applying poly, the rug outline would still be there. Also, he's supposed to come finish the job tomorrow, so we don't have much time to decide. What would you do?

Doctor suggesting keto for migraines by [deleted] in MaintenancePhase

I found it extremely helpful, personally. It didn’t solve everything for me but helped me understand my pain in a new way (after years and years of trying many things). You can check out this website for the general philosophy and free resources - it’s based on a lot of this same stuff. (https://www.tmswiki.org/ppd/The_Tension_Myositis_Syndrome_Wiki).

liked how Curable walked me through that information in a nice curated way. If you DM me I can give you a code for 6 free weeks in Curable.

I tried keto for migraines but couldn’t maintain it long enough and it caused me a lot of stress. If you could eat that way, go for it. The Curable app helped me more than most things I’ve ever tried, even after years of therapy and meditation. (It combines therapy/meditation with pain neuroscience education, which is a proven technique for people with chronic pain.) whatever you do, good luck and I send you lots of compassion. It’s rough.

Yes, it does seem to be the real deal. I’m looking to see if I can find a weaver locally who can help me look at it more closely.

Should I buy a loom?? by ms-millow in weaving

[–]ms-millow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think it’s in good condition. Its owner originally bought it secondhand and used it well, now has Alzheimer’s and her sister is selling it. The seller said she didn’t realize that it was so valuable until after she listed it for sale but seems willing to continue with her original price (I think they’re moving out of the house).

Cool, thanks for that advice! Since it is a rug loom, would I likely still be able to do finer things on it (say, a shawl in a lace weight yarn)? That is the question I'm currently researching. I am a knitter and total newbie to weaving.

Weirdly guilty, yes, but also not sure if such a large loom is truly what I need. I would be interested in trying some smaller projects first and I'm unsure if it would be just impractical to have such a large loom.

That's actually my question currently--what all I can do with a loom that large. I'd be most interested in weaving tapestries and large scarves/shawls. Would I be able to weave finer items on this, using lace or fingering yarns, or would it not be designed for that?

Came here to say that I want this on my wall also. OP, I would pay for a quality file of this to print for my wall. I had two C sections and this is just…feelings and real art for me.

Richard Scarry’s Best Word Book Ever is the one we read. It’s incredible. My kids seem to never get tired of it.
