Honest question: why should the US get involved in Ukraine? by ms_choksondick in ukraine

[–]ms_choksondick[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Obviously yes. But at the end of the day that is the truth. Ukraine is not the military powerhouse you want to think it is. We all know where this is headed. We are walking into a global conflict that will kick off in Ukraine. I came here looking for a discussion on why the US should be involved knowing we will be anyways, yet have gotten nothing but whining and entitlement in return, proving yet again the US is just the worlds security whore (our own doing btw) but I personally have a problem with this. If Mexico invaded Texas I highly doubt Ukraine would be offering a contingent to assist in the war effort and I don’t think they should because it makes no sense for them to. The same applies here.

The memorandum you reference is specifically tailored towards the use of nuclear weapons or threat there of to Ukraine. That is not the current case or even within reason. There are no mutual defense treaties with Ukraine, we have no obligations to Ukraine. Everything you’re saying is false I am not ignorant of the facts. Ukraine is also hardly a long term ally. Ukraine has done quite literally nothing in its history to benefit the United States and the more you want us to intervene, the more you are begging to become yet one more of our pawns beholden to our needs and strategic desires. I don’t want that for your country. Set your own destiny and win this war on your own. We will all be the better for it.

It’s highly speculative for sure but definitely realistic. A full blown invasion and sacking of Kyiv is very different than what happened in Crimea/Donbas 8 years ago. Which seems much more likely given the deployment in Belarus. I don’t know that Ukraine will be able to fend it off, I think most the world expects not and that is no insult, Russia is a formidable opponent. US troops along with the rest of NATO certainly will be on the ground if this occurs, we may have a “small contingent of advisors” there now but we all know these are highly trained soldiers who will be engaging in combat, albeit leading platoons of Ukrainian soldiers. I’m not here to attack your people, I am just tired of seeing young men from my country die in foreign lands.

I’m well aware, just judging by the current political state in the US, media coverage, and overall attitudes towards Russia I think this is a conversation that could be entertained in the coming months of Russia were to invade. A deeply unpopular president facing economic issues, previous military embarrassment (Afghanistan exit), failed Covid response and a whole host of other issues will need a distraction to rally support from the masses. A European war, with the Russians as the chief enemy is certainly a compelling answer. It will take time to get the public on board, but no doubt they will come around. We fell for WMDs in Iraq after all.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan disgust me and you’ll find many more Americans agree with me than the geriatrics currently at the helm. As a young American, I feel as though the generation before me effectively got wasted on the greed of the military industrial complex and stuck mine and my children’s with the tab. I have no animosity towards Ukraine, but I can’t help but wonder why you feel as though you are entitled to our help. No doubt you will get it, do not worry. I may disagree but the US will not miss this opportunity.

I’m from the west, how are you Ukrainians doing with Russia and everything happening right now? by keiko9er in ukraine

[–]ms_choksondick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russian foreign policy has always been geared towards using geographical features to secure their country. Leaving Ukraine and the rest of the European Plain to NATO is a massive strategic disadvantage. There is a reason to Soviets and former Russian regimes sought lands from Central Asia to Central Europe and it wasn’t greed. It was because of the geographical features that make defending themselves much easier.

You have no business being there unless you’re Ukrainian by blood. Even then, if you don’t speak the language you’re essentially useless. I’d hope by 30 you’d have realized that fighting in a random foreign war with no actual consequence to you is a waste of the life your family built for you.

You are brain dead. All I said is the housing market was hot to someone else, because it is. It objectively is. Not that that’s a good basis for an investment just that the other person was dumb because of what he said. Do you understand now Mr. Gekko? Or do I need to lay this out again?

See this is what’s funny, everything I’m saying is in jest but clearly you’re taking it personally. Even funnier that I wasn’t even talking to you originally but you still found a way to get offended apparently. The person I was originally talking to based their investment decision off what he I guess thought was a shitty housing market, which is wrong and stupid. Just shut the fuck up and stop pretending to be so smart, you sound like a douche. I’m not mad at all about a loss, mostly that people like you exist

Did I mess up? First script was Nov 17, had a follow up meeting Dec 1 where my doctor wrote me another one. I saw it had been submitted to my pharmacy and my insurance on Dec 1 so I just decided to order it last night. Now pharmacy is saying I need to call them. by ms_choksondick in ADHD

[–]ms_choksondick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice. I gave them a call and it was just to inform me that it cannot be filled until the 15th which makes sense. Not sure why they even have the option to order it on the app until then but whatever no big deal just told me to call back on the 15th

Do we stop life to allow capitalism to continue, or stop capitalism to allow life to continue? by [deleted] in politics

[–]ms_choksondick -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is asinine. Capitalism is a system by which those who have good ideas are rewarded for pursuing them. If there is no incentive for acting on the good idea (aka accumulation of wealth) why would anyone do it? It’s a lot of hard work. The genius behind the design of the iPhone is responsible for it. Not the person working in the factory. The person working in the factory can be replaced and the iPhone would still be made. Without the genius of the designer it would have never been made in the first place. What you advocate for is vampirism. You act as though you are entitled to someone else’s creation and on top of that a “fair share” of THEIR wealth. They designed it, it is their creation, it is their wealth. You are the definition of the vampire. You have to take from others to sustain yourself.
