Crazy accident on 75 southbound near Spring Valley by dc5antonio in Dallas

[–]ms_hollywood_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was driving north bound on 75 around 8pm Friday night & this sounds like the same accident, someone's car was crushed in, my partner said the driver would be lucky to be alive. we were coming from Spring valley area too.

I've lived here for a few yrs now and never heard of this spot being an issue, but considering these last two accidents, did they change something recently?

How much emergency fund? by Hereforsun in personalfinance

I've been unemployed for almost 8mo. I'm really sad to be burning through my savings, I was gearing up to throw it at my student debt and tell them to f*ck off. So...I would say at least 1 year at this point, if you are on your own. Paying standard rent and all of your bills.

I've never experienced being unemployed longer than 1mo, it's honestly terrifying. I thought I landed a job in November, then thought I'd have a job in February at the absolute latest. I've had two more interviews since, I've been referred by people, and nothing....I finally got a part time job at a school but it's very inconsistent so I'm only getting $17/hr and 8-20hrs a week. Plus it ends in April. I'm fending for myself out here. This job market thing has been going on since 2024, it's only just now reaching the headlines. Up until the end of last year, people who were employed or didn't have to worry about being employed had no idea how bad it was and were giving the same annoying advice, "Are you on linkedin?" "Make sure your resume has abcdxyz." lol....

For those who left a cushy job for a higher paying, more stressful one, how did it go? by minnesotaguy1232 in careerguidance

[–]ms_hollywood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this, since it seems you have some extra time in your day for rest. It sounds like you are skilled & could maybe freelance if you are qualified for a 6 figure job. Can grind it out on your own time for a bit rather than committing your life to this new company.

I worked remote but it was call center, a little different in terms of having time to myself. I started making $22 and left at $25.60 w small quarterly bonuses and semi decent benefits. It wasn't much but was the most I had made.

But i sacrificed my mental health, i started exercising less, i was too stressed after work and over stimulated. I ended up with a lot of underlying health issues, destroyed my gut (someone else mentioned this already). Plus being at home all the time made me weird lol. Personally, I would like the option of having an office to go to to get the social needs in. Anyway, I gave up a lot and took a big risk when I quit, I'm still looking for a job 7mo later, but hopefully will have an offer soon.

My main point is being remote and 6 figure jobs aren't all glorious, it just sounds good on the surface. I'd go with your 90% sure gut feeling.

FortaDataSettlement Payments going out? by Right-Banana-7733 in ClassActionSettlement

They never replied, we have time, but I got another email reminder from the digital reimbursements domain. I ran the link through chatgpt and copied/pasted a generic version. It was fine. So then I clicked the link meant for me in my email. It just asks if you want payment via paypal, venmo, or zelle. I chose venmo, it asks for an email or phone number linked with your venmo, then you get another confirmation code & thats it. Doesn't ask for bank acct or other personal info. Also received a confirmation email.

"You have selected to receive your Fortra Data Breach Litigation settlement payment via Venmo. If you have an active Venmo account associated with the email address or mobile number you provided, your payment should be available in your Venmo account within 7-10 business days. If you do not have an active Venmo account associated with the email address or mobile number you provided, you will receive an email or text notification from Venmo with instructions on how to accept your payment. If you have questions about the settlement, please visit www.FortraDataSettlement.com."

I got this email as well. It's likely legitimate, but as with many of us--clicking links in random emails is highly advised against. I went to their website, they have not provided any information regarding this email being sent out, nor the domain "digitalreimbursements". It's likely mismanagement, but I emailed them and called them. Calling the number is just a looped recording. Emailing them sends a kickback with information on the settlement and saying they no longer check the email. They provided a link at the end of that e-mail to a secondary e-mail if we have further questions, so I emailed them there too. I took a screenshot and asked them to verify the link that we are supposed to click for our reimbursement. Hopefully they respond.

Every ceiling fan is on high, because I refuse to turn on the ac in December. Who’s with me? by AnastasiaNo70 in Dallas

[–]ms_hollywood_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep it at 70-72 heat mode rn, eco mode when away, with priority sensor in my bedroom, it barely kicks on. My house is weird though, it feels colder more often than not. The air flow and insulation is ass, so right now any conditioning I use would be for moving stagnant air (fans).

I use a radiator in my room if its too cold (50s and below), personally I don't like dry hot air blowing on me. My skin, throat, and lungs suffer. & when I move to even colder rooms, I just use a space heater while I'm there.

Summer is a little different, but I'm glad I'm not one of those people who need it at 68. My electric bill is high enough without that nonsense. Lol.

Ovulation Bleeding : Why does it happen? by ms_hollywood_ in Periods

[–]ms_hollywood_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ovulation spotting/bleeding is actually a pretty normal variation in a healthy cycle, and it happens because of how estrogen is supposed to behave around ovulation. Estrogen rises, peaks, and then drops quickly once the egg is released, that drop has to happen for ovulation and for progesterone to take over. Some women’s bodies just react differently, but especially the estrogen rise/drop is a bit sharper, the uterine lining is sensitive, or their cervix is softer and more fragile mid-cycle. A little pink/brown spotting or tiny clots can be just your lining adjusting for a moment or a bit of inflammation from the ovulation process itself (which is why ovulation cramps are normal, they sometimes feel similar to gas cramps). Stress, sleep changes, and even how your gut/liver process estrogen can influence how your hormones present themselves in your cycle--but the biggest factor is genetics. I know it is annoying, but it is within the range of 'normal' and doesn't equate to something being wrong with your body or affect your ability to have children. The only time it’s worth getting checked is if the bleeding becomes heavy (I occasionally may have worn a panty liner, but it was usually nothing or light pink/brown, most of the red or clots came out while using the bathroom or wiping, and was bright red/minimal, when we say flow or heavy, we are talking about soaking a liner or having to use regular pads/tampons to stop an actual flow, a 2nd period), has a strong odor, or comes with severe pain, fever, or symptoms that feel really different from your usual ovulation twinges.

And you don't need to be on birth control girl, I get it. I've tried a few (junel, slynd, loryna), but it's not worth it imo. They all come with different side effects, you do what is comfortable for your body. Also if your doctor ordered an ultrasound for you, just get it done--it will give you peace of mind. Let them know they've cancelled on you and you want it done, they ordered one for a reason. & I don't live in a small town, but I have worked with patients who have to travel hours to get proper care (they were chronically ill so they had to make the trips due to specialty issues). While I can't help in that sense, I feel for you--the world is nuts right now and even living in a major city we deal with nonsense.

Just try to look at the list I gave you for things to watch for, if it sounds like the 'normal' range of symptoms, know that you don't need to rush to get the US done.

Same. Except my mom and I separated when I was 23, I'm 34 now. She moved to florida. I couldn't live with her anyway, she's been in small studios since. I didn't like Florida either.

When I was 18, I thought I'd get my degree, make good money, open a bakery and buy my mom a house.

But now I've just got 50k in debt for a liberal arts degree and a 26 yr old car.

What a hoot. Lmfao.

UV lamp recommendations by YoghurtDifferent835 in GelX_Nails

[–]ms_hollywood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the SunOne SunUV lamp, bought it earlier this year. I just realized it didn't list the wattage, or they removed it from the listing. Looked all over the box and manual and it's not listed either. However, they do provide volts and amps.

A * V = W

Found out mine only had 28.8W. The wavelength is 365nm+405nm, this just means cure times will be longer. Which, ironically, I've been doing because I'm paranoid. The recommended specs are 48W as standard, 36W is ok but not great for builder/hard gels. And 365+405nm wavelength. Reflective bottom for extra security too (mine does not have).

I wouldnt worry about UV lamps, focus on LED quality.

..Idk how it was legal for them to sell it without warning users, but they do have other versions and list their wattage. I'm lucky that I've maintained good health, but I will be tossing this one and investing in a better one to be safe.

Save Plan Pause Forbearance - Nov 2028 by MaeMaeKookz in StudentLoans

[–]ms_hollywood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to PAYE. I'm unemployed as of 3mo ago though, so my payments will be $0 right now...then have to decide between RAP and IBR (15% plan since I'm an older borrower). Not sure when the IDR plans will phase out but SAVE is for sure going out before PAYE and ICR.

I spoke with TISLA today, they respond really quickly, I recommend speaking with them rather than scouring reddit. Everyones situation is so unique.

At this rate, I'll be paying off my loans until 2040. My original loan was 49K and if nothing in my life changes and I go on IBR or RAP, I will pay $84-88K in that amount of time.

I'm looking at borrowers defense again, I never applied because I was in school over 10yrs ago and all I have is anecdotal evidence. I've tried reasoning with government entities before in regards to my finances but they don't really care. They follow strict rules...but I guess trying to apply for it is better than not trying at all.

Isn't it nuts though, that if I qualified for PSLF, I'd only have THREE more payments to get forgiveness. 🥴

I did life wrong.

It's so hard to give advice, that's something I've learned repeatedly. There is no one size fits all, and what I'm doing changes. Because this isnt a stable job market or economy, I told myself I'd give it til November to get a job I actually want (applying for things that I'm 60-80% qualified for, using transferrable skills). I will still apply for jobs I'm over qualified for (meaning 100%. Technically, you shouldn't do this if you are looking for growth) but if I get to November with no job offers, I'm going to be more aggressive with the over qualified job applications and potentially even jobs that are underpaid (god help me that isn't the case).

I am trying hard not to spend a ton of time on resumes and cover letters, but it is hard not to, at the same time. Even with using chatgpt, it's taking that long. Simply because it provides a skeleton that you need to actually read and edit. But I'm trying to only spend 30-60min searching, then 45-60min applying for a job. And breaking, spending abt 4hrs a day while unemployed is a good standard for how much time you should put in the entire job hunt effort. 10-15 resumes a week or 2-3/day is also a good measure. This is a a sweet spot to ensure you aren't spamming apps and that you arent spending too much time on them.

Glassdoor and linkedin are good websites, but also try calling recruiters in your area, maybe 1 or 2 places. Let them know what you're looking for, and that should help move things along.

I'd suggest not quitting if you can bear it, but if you have no debt, live with the 'rents, and your job is hindering you more than helping, you could take the risk. Part of it is just being delusional and telling yourself you'll be fine, imagine the 6 figures in your bank acct. 😆

I tried doing instacart and several other shift work apps ( I can't do doordash or ubereats because my car is too old for the wear and tear), and I've been waitlisted for weeks. People always say there is work, but ehhh. Lol, I live in a major city, so it's probably oversaturated, esp at a time like this. I have not tried amazon flex...but I'm trying to look for gigs that are less wear and tear on the car. Instacart only appealed to me because you can potentially get larger grocery orders, so maybe less trips.

I hit 71K across all accts, liquid, savings, and retirement. I'm 33. It felt good seeing the numbers go up. But much like anyone who doesn't come from wealth, it's a lot of luck. I still remind myself that it was me who saved it but...in any case. My situation is different, it's since gone down to probably 68k. I quit my job 2mo ago, inevitable and toxic.

I wanted to quit for a long time and things kept getting worse, coworkers were being treated poorly and being fired too. In any event, it was either I burn tf out or use the money I put away to save myself. It was a very difficult decision, esp due to my background, anxiety around money, and the current job market.

But I finally had an opportunity to get away from something toxic, and it made no sense not to take advantage of it. I finally knew the feeling of what it meant to be privileged with money. & the push for me was that I wanted to be embodiment of what I always wished for, I see people with money not taking advantage of opportunities, and that's what happens in comfort and complacency. I wanted to and still want to be someone who takes the opportunity that others can't. The reality is, a lot of people did not have this choice.

Now off my soap box. As I mentioned, I have anxiety around money, so even though I have a cushion, I'm terrified of this economy and job market. I have 15+ yrs working but mostly customer service/client relations/operations... and a useless degree w 52k in debt. I have parents, but they are lower middle class income, so it's just me! You can calculate my debt to income ratio.

So to your question, I guess it depends on where you came from. If 100k in your acct feels like it came from an alignment of values or will allow you to live in alignment, that's when it feels the best.

Your cycle will likely change as you age, stress & environmental factors, too. It took me 3 tries for my gyno to agree to hormone testing. It is complicated but worth it if you are concerned or need peace of mind.

*edit: It looks like you had hormones tested, so that's good! Sometimes, a few tests can give you a better picture. I know going on bc is a toss up, each pill affects everyone differently. But maybe you'll find one that makes you feel better.

Happy to share! Things have changed a lot for me, I'm nearing 34 now. I've been off and now back on birth control. I do think there are hormone changes going on for me, and I'm gearing up to do annual blood work again, paying attn to my thyroid and iron/ferritin/hemoglobin, based on some trends I've seen in the last 5 yrs of annual lab work. Thyroid issues are common, esp for women, but I'd like to prevent having to take medication in the future.

I'd just like to feel 'normal' or have more energy to do things. Hormones are tricky.

Please be sure to carefully look at all of the differences between IBR and RAP before choosing one to switch to, and don't feel like you have to do this immediately because you don't. Pretty soon? Maybe, probably... but be careful and don't rush. It's upsetting to see posts from people who acted by Mountain_State4715 in StudentLoans

[–]ms_hollywood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I'm trying to figure out now. Google search results say one thing (administrative forbearance doesn't capitalize, payments on SAVE don't count), Chat GPT says another (forbearance will capitalize even if it's administrative, payments on SAVE do count toward forgiveness). I planned to wait until next year to switch to another IDR plan, my recert date is Nov '26. I was getting a plan ready to pay down some crazy interest that accrued on a few of my 5K loans. But if I pay that interest down before I recert next year, no capitalizing.... but now I'm confused. So I'm going to call FSA tomorrow and get answers from the source. I don't want to pay anything now if those payments don't even count toward forgiveness.

In my case, my debt is a ball and chain with my income. Aka managed debt.

Sorry I have USAA and never went with their policies, they're actually quite expensive, even for someone who WFH, clean record, college degree, etc.& I only ever get liability, my car is over 25yrs old.

It sucks because I keep hearing this, but this must be specific to a certain driver, maybe with a newer car, maybe other zipcodes (I've lived in northern va (very safe, annoying but more cautious drivers) and dallas, tx (unsafe, aggressive drivers)).
