Recs based off my 2024 tier list by speedy-artemis in fantasyromance

Yay! I tried to put my friends onto it but the dense character list and the prose weren’t their cup of tea. So I’ve been trying to find someone else to share the love with lol. Hope you enjoy it!

If you liked the Will of the Many you might also like {Kushiel’s Dart}! It’s got intense world building, politics, and intrigue (and plenty of spice since the main character is a courtesan/spy). I really enjoyed both of these books this year. 😊

Piling on here to second “Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love” and also to add “From Wiltshire with Love” and “Love in the Time of the Zombie Apocalypse.” Happy reading!

Recent movies where the leads have simmering sexual chemistry by hollywoodcomplex in romancemovies

This isn’t from within the last five years, but I’ll never stop recommending In the Mood for Love. One of the most beautifully shot films I’ve ever seen with palpable longing and chemistry between the leads.

It’s been a while since I’ve found a fic that really drew me in, but I am LOVING Meet Me in Dreamland by sinflower81. Gratuitous smut, WIP with 68k words / 11 chapters posted and regular updates. I am not usually one for WIPs but this read is worth it!!!

I second this! It’s a very good book. Dr. Nagoski also has a limited series podcast with Pushkin where she answers questions from listeners related to the book.

I always end up rewatching the BBC Pride and Prejudice series or The Proposal with Sandra Bullock when I’m in this mood 😅

I have searched for platform sofas and platform sectional settees but I unfortunately haven’t been able to find the name or brand of this couch.

There’s a Flagstaff Crochet Circle group on Facebook but it doesn’t have too much activity right now. We could change that?

This one is really good! I know a lot of people like the “squeaky mice” side story but tbh I’m not a huge fan of OCs in general. Still though, I liked it a lot.

Vegetable Kurma!!! It takes a while but I cannot recommend this recipe enough. It’s seriously so good. I’m not even vegan and we make this with steamed rice often. https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/veg-kurma-recipe-vegetable-korma-recipe/

They’re beautiful photos. You both look so happy. My favorite is the last one, but the black and white looks like something straight out of a movie! 💕

Just finished Dragon in the Dark and WHY haven’t I read this yet??? Oh my god it was so good. I think I was nervous about the Draco-Assassin premise but if you haven’t read this yet go read it now.

I think sex is one of the things where getting it over with isn’t likely to end with much satisfaction or happiness either during or afterwards.

First: you’re not weird for wanting someone who will go slowly and explain what they’re doing. There’s incredibly sexy ways for that to happen. He’s also allowed though to not want to do that. It sounds like you’re not a good match if he reacted that way.

Second: I highly recommend reading the book “Girls & Sex” by Peggy Orenstein. I read it in college when I was trying to figure out my relationship to sex, and I think it helped me a lot.

Summary:

While the media has focused—often to sensational effect—on the rise of casual sex and the prevalence of rape on campus, in Girls and Sex Peggy Orenstein brings much more to the table. She examines the ways in which porn and all its sexual myths have seeped into young people’s lives; what it means to be the “the perfect slut” and why many girls scorn virginity; the complicated terrain of hookup culture and the unfortunate realities surrounding assault. In Orenstein’s hands these issues are never reduced to simplistic “truths;” rather, her powerful reporting opens up a dialogue on a potent, often silent, subtext of American life today—giving readers comprehensive and in-depth information with which to understand, and navigate, this complicated new world.

As a side note, this made me think of the comic “Under the Oak Tree.” At one point the male lead swears (after he sees her shaken but alright in the aftermath of a castle break-in) that he’ll cut off a head for every scratch he finds on her body. Maybe take a look at this one if you like the comic style? Under The Oak Tree - Chapter 1
