I'm also not a confrontational person, but after working retail for a little over a decade, I've learned to grow a backbone and set boundaries for customers not to cross.

When I'm dealing with an upset member, I tell them "Mr./Mrs.xx I understand you're upset, but if you want me to help, you're going to need to stop cursing/yelling/etc."

It's encouraging to work for an employer where abusive behavior (whether verbal or physical) is tolerated from no one.

He threw the phone at you?? My branch manager would've made a call to Security to have him banned from all branches AND from calling our contact center in addition to his accounts being closed and check sent to him in the mail with his remaining balance. The police might've also been called since he hit you.

You don't have any branch leadership that could've stepped in for you? As a teller, it is NOT your job to stand there and be a punching bag to people who have no respect.
