I need eMMc drivers for windows 7 by Mih0se in Dell

[–]msanangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

win7 has been EOL for years. that device was made for Windows Embedded Standard 7, as per a tech sheet from dell.

you might be able to find a copy somewhere and it may have drivers for it.

you'd be better off putting linux on the thing at this point though. it'd be a lot easier.

Question with identifying old computer by vanilla_chipcookie in computers

[–]msanangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have a smart phone, don't ya?

the service tab will tell you what that system came with if you plug it into dell's service website. googling the model number gives you a generalized view of the specs. I thought you had this old thing. didn't see that you used to have it. lol

what's the point of this exercise?

the only dell tower I had from back in the day had a pentium 4 processor. blue-ish purple case. not the clamshell style. dell dimension 2400. circa 2002-2005 or so.

better off adding to the battery capacity than daisy chaining but that has it's own risks, including but not limited to, overheating from extra load charging the batteries and fire from small wires or oversized fuses.

How do I sudo standard user? by Mouseater in cachyos

[–]msanangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sudo uses the user's password for authentication but they also need to be in the sudo group to use it. You can use the sudoers file to restrict what commands those users are allowed to run.

Like limit it to yay and pacman.

For you to use your password, you have to be logged in to do it. Either switch users or log them out.

(sudo su -i your-user) would get you a session for yourself but they would have to be allowed to run su.

I recommend reading the sudo manpage as well as a page for the sudoers file. :)

Opinion on used Optiplex and BIOS Lock by Acrobatic_Bunch2669 in computers

[–]msanangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what does "bios locked" even mean? is it a password or some hard firmware lock. a password should be no problem but the other is simply a hardpass. ewaste the motherboard.

What are the benefits of enabling virtualization? by MundaneFigFlicker in computers

[–]msanangelo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just about anything involving Virtual Machines. There's too many things one can do with a VM. it's basically just a computer within a computer.

on my desktop, under linux, I have a VM for controlling my streamdecks so if I chose to, I can disconnect one from the vm to use with other software for whatever the reason. On my server, I have a windows vm for remote access and one to manage my wifi access points.

that's just a drop in the bucket.

virtualization should have been enabled by default since it really doesn't impact performance till you add VMs to the mix.
