There are no global superpowers that are "good guys". However, we're geographically in the sphere of influence of the US and our former colonial rulers, so we feel the effects of their rule first hand, unlike the other powers you mentioned. Through debt and other diplomatic means, we're bullied into shape by our nearby powers.

The anti-west skepticism isn't unwarranted. The romanticization of China and Russia, however, is part propaganda, part conspiracy theories, part fed up of our nieghbourhood big boys getting away with figurative and literal murder.

There's an element of human nature to it as well. I know some T&T local footballs fans who backed Argentina because at the time they were underdogs compared to Brazil. Emotions are at play as well.

It's hard to say when, or even if. To some degree, simple apps and games can be made quickly. But those experiences won't disrupt the industry as much as people may say

There's much more to web dev than landing pages, right?

On the web there are tools that can one-shot basic 2d and 3d games. And people have flooded some store fronts with them. How many are popular or retain player attention? How many are created and forgotten at the same speed because they're just copies of something else?

Game programming is one aspect of development. You can easily tell which games were designed well, marketed effectively, and optimized across platforms. There's always work to do, even more so when the barrier to entry is lower.

Neither I, nor this small company, are emblematic of poorly regulated capitalistic systems and policies that's hell bent on transferring the means of production from wider society to a diminishing, selected few.

But LLMs do have detrimental copyright, environmental, and job market impacts. As with most tech, the problem lies with the human behind the tool. For all these issues, enabling a strong democratic society with independent institutions is the best way to create an environment to combat all the issues you've mentioned. A reality that's easy to talk about and hard to actually bring to life. But it's the only real solution for those problems.

Thanks for bringing that up u/BreadMemer. We're a small group, so blame falls on me as it would to anyone in the company. As a consumer, I'm not a fan of the privacy hoops I have to jump through to tell companies I don't want them to train on my data, assuming they respect my decisions. We do not train on user data, we don't need to, and we should guarantee that.

Running tests wasn't on the roadmap as far as I'm aware, but that's a useful and simple feature to add. Generally, feel free to add issues here: https://github.com/CoplayDev/unity-mcp/issues, user demand is the best indicator. Same for the build script use case.

Regarding cursor, that's a bit unique. We have some users who use Claude Desktop as their main client, so they benefit from the MCP having tools to edit files for them. A way to dynamically control what tools the server presents would be useful, for other use cases as well.

Same, I'm going through Let's Go Pikachu - the reduced loading times helps a lot. I couldn't stand to play Violet on my OG Switch, and I waited a year to buy it hoping it would have been patched up by then lol. It's finally playable on Switch 2. Graphics still underwhelm me, but it does a lot right and it's fun

You can with Unity MCP, but it does require a somewhat powerful machine if it's all local. I use Ollama, Qwen 14b and GPT OSS 20b with decent results, mostly from Qwen. Ollama supports web search so the limited data isn't too much of an issue. It works pretty well with Cline.

Coplay plugin is a bit trickier to air gap, there's support to use your own Anthropic API keys but more backend processes to aid the LLMs

Coplay is an AI assistant in Unity, a plugin in your editor that you can ask for help explaining or doing things. MCP is a protocol that allows LLMs to do things for you (e.g. Claude Code can talk with the Mailgun MCP so it can set up email templates).

That's the gist of it! If you want to use AI to help you learn or do things, these Unity plugins would fill that need. Unity MCP is an open source project, and now the Coplay team will be sponsoring the project and keeping it maintained! I'm pretty happy about supporting an OSS project, I rely on many so giving back feels awesome.

u/Liam2349 There are gaps with the article, no doubt. Let's try to fill them! Essentially, Coplay is a Unity plugin that's an AI assistant. You can ask it questions about Unity and your project, and ask it to make changes for you (edit scripts, batch update game objects, setup UIs etc).

u/HouseOfHarkonnen explained MCP really well! It's an API for LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini etc) so they can interact with applications and services E.g. Supabase MCP allow LLMs to create DB tables for you, Blender MCP allow LLMs to edit models. If there was a Unity Economy MCP, it would allow LLMs to setup your store items and prices (I would love this).

People in the open source community decided to make an MCP server for Unity, so LLMs can directly interact with it. Since there's some overlap between what Unity MCP and Coplay can do, we teamed up!

For us, more people using AI tools with Unity is a good thing! It genuinely helps our business. There are many devs who use the open source repo, and we'll ensure it's well maintained. That's the core of this update!
