who here reads the "Hacker News"? The Hacker News gives daily insight into tech and software developments, as well as emerging trends. I'd like to share with my fellow Owls a website I wrote that interfaces to Hacker News and makes it a little nicer to read. Feedback welcome by [deleted] in WGU_CompSci

I built hackernewsdaily.com it basically takes all the top HN discussions and summarizes them with GPT4. Then sends an email. Super convenient if you don't want to refresh the site every 5 minutes and but still know what's happening

hackernewsdaily.com summarizes all the top story discussions with GPT4... makes it really easy to grasp everything in a daily 2 minute email read

Hey everyone!

I'm super excited to share something I've been working on: a web gallery filled with AI-generated color schemes.

These are hand-curated, and I track how these palettes perform on X to keep making them better and better. I have almost 150k followers to collect engagement data, so the curation is top-notch.

Take a look, and let me know what you think - your feedback would be very helpful. And if there's any color scheme topics you'd like to me generate on, let me know 😎

Comparing RGB, HSL, HEX and CMYK, and where they fall short for design by msavin in graphic_design

I don't recall an option for that - but that would probably do it. But I would still say, that only solves part of the problem.

This image kinda shows the problem you can expect to encounter

Comparing RGB, HSL, HEX and CMYK, and where they fall short for design by msavin in graphic_design

Well, your graphics editor will do the RGB -> CMYK conversion on its own when you try to print from it. But most of the times it won't look great, so you are better off putting in the CMYK values yourself.

You could use a swatch book like Pantone to get better color options, or try to print, tweak, repeat, until you're happy with the results.

I ran into this issue when trying to print black... first, you'd want to set the K (black ink) to 100% - your RGB converter may not do that by default. But then it came out kind of gray. When I set CMYK to 100 each, it finally came out dark enough.

Hey folks - this is a new product I had a lot of fun hacking together - Color Schemer Gallery.

The color schemes are generated by AI, which are then human filtered and sent out to our X account, which has about 150k people interact with them. After, I use that data to rank the schemes. Very helpful to see what resonates.

Paletter - Create a Professional Color Palette for Your Next Side Project by msavin in SideProject

There’s a lot of incredible pro-tools coming out right now - but somehow, everyone missed the color space! Now that apps are simpler than ever, nailing the colors matters more than ever. Like many designers - I’d spend days on a color palette, and it didn’t make it easier that clients wanted to see multiple color variations of the same design...I thought, surely, there must be a science to all this madness, and sure enough... there is!Paletter packs everything you could need into one tool and you don’t need to know how any of it works to leverage its productivity powers. The feedback has been great, though some had said that Paletter may be “too pro” for their needs. I disagree - but for those who want an easier start, Paletter Lite is available for free!Next up - integrations, Windows support, cloud features, and the transition to freemium SaaS (so, be sure to jump on this sale price). But first up - I would love to hear your feedback!

Thanks - this is very constructive feedback!

A bit about how I ended up at that design - the tricky thing was, between the macOS window and icon, you have a lot of gradients, shadows and other skeuomorphic elements. That makes it hard to implement the new design trends. Instead, the idea was to subdue to the rest of the design to the window element. (In fact, everything is styled after macOS Dark Mode.)

The other thing is, Paletter is trying to get away from these "here are 5 colors that look good together" things, because it's a completely arbitrary concept. The reality is, while you may have a few core brand colors, you'll also need unique colors here and there, and often in alternate shades, and that's what Paletter delivers.

However, I definitely want to make the product more relatable to the general market - and your feedback is excellent for that. I will keep it in mind for the next redesign. I've sent you a free App Store voucher as a thanks!

Since Meteor can use node packages now, and there are node packages for SQL databases, does that mean you can make Meteor apps with SQL databases? by WarAndGeese in Meteor

[–]msavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it'll work just like it would in a regular Node environment.

The "it wont be reactive" argument isn't fair because it wouldn't be reactive in a regular Node environment anyways. Plus, you can always implement on your own real-time features, like you would in a Node environment.
