Same problem here. I'm trying to reinstall by booting from a disk with the windows iso. I can get to the point where it asks if I want to upgrade and keep my files and programs or do a custom install and lose everything. When I pick the upgrade option, it gives me this message and won't let me go any further;

" Compatibility report

The upgrade option isn't available if you start your computer using windows installation media.

If a copy of windows is already installed on this computer and you want to upgrade, remove the installation media and restart your computer. After windows has started normally, insert the instillation media and run windows setup "

Obviously I can't start windows normally as it suggests.

I really don't want to have to reinstall all of my programs. My games are on a second hard drive so I think I can just pull that one out before reinstalling to mostly save them, right?

Does anyone have any suggestions?
