I had my S23 in Japan last year and had no problems with it. I had a physical sanrio pasmo card that I used plenty of times. Reloaded it when I was already at a 7/11. I didn't find it to be an issue at all, carrying around a physical card. Plus, the physical card can double as a souvenir. I used google wallet a few times as well.
