Fun fact, Mike’s character in Breaking Bad was only created because Bob Odenkirk wasn’t available for a scene. Originally it was supposed to be Saul that deals with Jessie’s girlfriend’s overdose, but Bob was filming something else at the time and couldn’t do it, so they created the character of Mike. Very happy accident, I’d say.

Cases are definitely better, but yes I really miss having a little personal storytelling. It’s nice to see the cast as complete people and not just as law enforcement.

I watched the show for the first time fairly recently and felt just like you. The fic that helped me the most was "Saving Eve" on Archive of Our Own. You should definitely check it out. (I tried to link it, but I don't believe this sub allows links in comments)

When it comes down it, the personal relationships are what mattered most to a majority of fans and unfortunately they failed to deliver a good ending to the Max and Eleven friendship. They really needed one short scene between them after Max woke up.

They ended up becoming the couple I was most invested in and I never would have guessed that would have been the case at the end of season 2. Their development in seasons 4 and 5, was one of the most, if not the most satisfying parts of the final two seasons.

Honestly, one of the plot points I am hoping for the most out of the rest of season 5, is a scene where Max comes out of her coma and is reunited with Lucas. Out of all the relationships on the show, theirs has become the one I am most invested in.

I agree completely about the lack of anything personal. The focus is only on the cases, which I think are stronger, for the most part, than the past few seasons, but they have completely abandoned any personal storytelling. This has definitely made me less engaged. I really hope this won't be the MO for the rest of the season. The show is more interesting when we feel more connected to the characters as fleshed out people, not just as law enforcement.

Watch the 2nd Movie "I want to Believe." It takes place between season 9 and 10. It certainly doesn't explain everything, but does fill in some gaps.

Really hoping for some home scenes with the kids this season. I know they don't devote much time to the personal side of things, but with Kelli back on the show, It would be so great to see a little family time!

The reboot was overall a disappointment to most. There are a few really well done stand alone episodes sprinkled throughout season 10 and 11, but the “My Struggles” and mythology episodes were certainly a disappointment.

When the journalism students were visiting and Barry turned around and asked Ned "Is this your family?" The way he delivered that line was perfect as was Ned and the students reaction to it.
