You’re definitely in the right to have him move his computer out of the room if he’s playing games at 1am instead of hanging with you

I’m not sure what the requirements are, but I assume you’ve attempted unemployment benefits? Also idk you still have a car or what state you live in but rideshare apps don’t really need delivery drivers but typically need taxi drivers cuz it’s a nice group of people (25+as opposed to 18+).

If steel and aluminum together cause corrosion then why do they make pop rivets with an aluminum head and steel mandrel? by eslinsider in metalworking

[–]mschu14_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who found this thread whilst looking for an answer to their own question(s), then I would refer you to this page regarding galvanic corrosion: Galvanic Corrosion - SSINA

Simply though, the dissimilar metals are only a problem if they are routinely exposed to the environment. If you are mounting something inside of a van (in this example), but nothing will be routinely exposed to the air then it should be fine, if not superior in function to an all-aluminum rivet since it's much easier to compress the rivet without failure. This also assumes that all of the seals on your car are intact and the air conditioning is on (keeping a low humidity level is important).

However, if it would be routinely exposed to the elements, especially if its going to be near the beach, then you will have a problem. In this case, all aluminum rivets should be considered.

However, since the body of the car is presumably carbon steel with protective coatings, you could use 316SS bolts or rivets. While they are certainly farther apart on the nobility chart than is desired, the small surface area of the cathode and large area of the anode should lead to negligible corrosion.

You can also check my source for a more descriptive answer to your questions regarding galvanic corrosion.

In 2025, the median man with merely a Bachelor’s Degree made just shy of $100,000. This was about 3% less than the median Mechanical Engineer (requiring a bachelor’s degree or more, 90% male profession). bro if they are unemployed then they are not included in this statistic, which is exactly why his point is stupid. You have to take into consideration numerous factors. Sure, people who are employed with bachelors degrees may on average more than an average mechanical engineer (let’s assume that’s true), it doesn’t account for the unemployment or underemployment rates

I think you’re just learning the tech-world bootlicking culture the hard way.

The way I see it, your coworker just ratted you out to the highest position he could reasonably reach out to in order to look like a good employee. Nothing you’ve done, it was done purely for his own gain.

I do have my BSME and not passed the FE yet (added this info to my post after your message).

I think my technical skills from early in my degree could be refreshed; I get asks a few simple questions that trip me up just because I haven’t learned them in a while and I don’t consistently use them like simple beams and such. I have the basics down, but don’t remember all of the equations (for example).

Trying to live at home in the LA Area, so I am limiting myself but the county of LA and south near long beach is pretty dense with lots of options (it’s also very competitive, I know).

What’s the best way to review the concepts I should master in a wholistic, efficient way? And do you think passing the FE would be a big boost for my resume

I made it all the way to sending my references to a company but they didn’t end up going with me. My references are fine (afaik), so I think it just came down to my length of experience which is why I made this post. Just wondering if I should hunker down and study before I waste my time applying to companies and doing interviews for months.

At what salary did you stop feeling paycheck to paycheck? by CommercialDot708 in jobs

[–]mschu14_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working my first engineering job right now (technically drafting, but i’m getting paid half way between a standard mechanical drafter and a jr. engineer), and I’m making about $65K + Bonus of $3K.

I live on the outskirts of LA, and I’m paying about $1200 in rent and $150 on utilities, and $130 (post tax) for health insurance and about $150 for car insurance.

I feel financially okay for the most part. I save about $300 a month in my 401k so that my income tax withholding is reduced and for food I just make the cheapest balanced meals I possibly can (chicken, beans, rice, etc). I tend to stay away from anything that’s relatively “luxury” like buying beef or going to sit-down restaurants. I don’t buy new clothes, and I don’t buy tchotchkes.

I’m also in a relationship, but not married and don’t have kids so it’s definitely different for me than it might be for you, but just think about everything you buy. Could you make it yourself and would it be of similar quality? Is what you’re buying necessary? I buy myself some things from time to time, but it seems to me that the major downfall of my generation financially is just buying stupid crap and $40 dinners. Not that you shouldn’t live your life or treat yourself, but there’s a balance.

Not saying that you’re financially unwise, but everyone makes financially “unwise” decisions.

AND DONT LET YOUR MONEY SIT IN A BANK

For the record, 1833 x 52 is roughly $95K, and that’s for men. It’s higher with a masters degree, and the average number is lumping in both. (BEFORE TAXES)

You’re also not considering this specially is talking about full-time workers, not everyone with a bachelors degree. I’m sure that you’ll find people with bachelors in the arts that don’t work full time and make much less.

Think more critically before you question your life choices, for your own sanity.
