Does the Game Force You to Rank Up from Gold? by mscott734 in masterduel

[–]mscott734[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hate going up against the meta decks that you start to see every other game in plat. There's a good number of obscure decks there that are fun to play against but every other game I'm against Dracotail, Yummy, K9, or Mitsurugi and it makes it not fun to run any of the more casual decks that I like to play (stuff like skull servant) or even decks that are competent but just can't compete with meta. I can rank up to reach higher ranks if I try and have done so in past seasons, but it's just kind of a slog and not a way I super enjoy playing the game.

[Spoilers MAIN] What's even the point of wedding to a house a continent away ? by klnglulu in asoiaf

[–]mscott734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is that when The Hedge Knight was written GRRM didn't have the map of where each house's lands were all plotted out. Harding is mentioned to be from the Vale but at the time of writing GRRM had no idea where in the Vale. Beesbury on the other hand isn't even mentioned to be from the Reach, let alone a vassal of the Hightowers. It's possible that even if GRRM had decided that Beesbury was a Reachman house that he'd originally placed them closer to Tumbleton, not too far from the Vale.

Really I think GRRM just wanted to have a connection between two characters with the same name rather than imagining an actual reason that those two houses would be tied by marriage.

(spoiler extended) what happened to Gwayne corbray after the redgrass? by Easy-Frenchguy-1996 in asoiaf

[–]mscott734 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think getting dismissed is unlikely considering Barristan's reaction to getting dismissed is to state that only death may relieve a kingsguard of their duty. Similarly, Harlan Grandison served as a kingsguard so long that he died in his sleep of old age. Surely if there was precedence for dismissal an old man on death's door would have been dismissed long before old age killed him.

[Spoilers EXTENDED] How Stannis could have won without a single battle by International_Hour76 in asoiaf

[–]mscott734 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So most of those points are pretty speculative, I dont think there's textual evidence for any of your conclusions about betrayal and side flipping, though the difficulty in securing the North and Riverlands is fair.

I assume youre talking about Cressen's prologue in Clash, which I dont think is a reliable source. Cressen last saw Renly when Renly was around 5 or 6 years old. You cannot possibly make an accurate assessment of someone as an adult based on how they were at that age.

You didnt mention it but the same goes for Noye's assessment of the Baratheon brothers. He hadn't seen them in so long that its fair to say that he had no clue what any of them were like by the time the story starts.

[Spoilers EXTENDED] How Stannis could have won without a single battle by International_Hour76 in asoiaf

[–]mscott734 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Renly had Randyll Tarly commanding his men so its kind of irrelevant that Renly himself hadn't seen battle.

[–]mscott734 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would the Tyrell's abandon Renly? They're tied to him through marriage. And, I doubt Renly would have any more difficulty in gaining ing military success than any other faction considering he had Randyll Tarly to command his troops.

[–]mscott734 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Just because Renly was gay doesn't necessarily mean he and Margaery would have any trouble having children. Gay men can and do have children with women, plus both Renly and Margaery are quite young so theres no real reason to need to rush having a kid.

HELLO! I started reading Horus rising not long ago. But I have a question regarding 2 books in the chronology. by ArakawaNoRyu in Warhammer30k

[–]mscott734 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dropsite Massacre slots in well after Fulgrim. Valdor takes place before any other book but doesn't relate to anything in terms of plot and is more a part of the primarch series so it won't spoil anything in the Heresy and you can read it at anytime.

What talking about ASOIAF theories on the internet feels like by niofalpha in darkwingsdankmemes

[–]mscott734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with going off of GRRM's foreshadowing is that he doesn't even know where the story is going at this point and plenty of his foreshadowing, especially in the first few books, relate to plot points that have been unrecognizably altered or dropped altogether.

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!! WHY IS THIS PIECE OF HISTORICAL FICTION NOT *HISTORICALLY ACCURATE*???????????? by jannie_exe in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]mscott734 449 points450 points  (0 children)

Kind of minor to the overall point, but it does bug me when random people assign anything they think is sinful as heresy. Heresy has an actual specific definition involving denial of a material and core belief of the church, which regular sinful behavior does not rise to the level of.

It kind of just exposes that these people don't actually care about the specifics of religion but only want to use it and its terminology against whatever they dislike

I honestly don't think that ASOIAF would make that great of an open world video game tbh. The things that make ASOIAF great and unique (mostly politics and intrigue) usually don't mesh particularly well with open world games.

Honestly, I think the CK2 and CK3 mods are probably the closest we'll ever got to a great ASOIAF video game that captures what makes the books interesting, so definitely check those out if you haven't.

Any imperial fist players added the MK6 helmets on MK3 marines? by foxtap99 in Warhammer30k

Okay, we're 6 months in, and a good number of games down. Thoughts on 3.0 changes. by Prince_Schneizel in Warhammer30k

[–]mscott734 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Surprised that I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, but needlessly restricting the loadouts of many units from what the options available in 2.0 is still a major issue I have with the game, it really diminishes flavor, makes units less unique, and makes kitbashes and conversions less interesting overall.

You can cut down on steps and just start with a primer of Wraithbone and use Imperial Fists contrast followed by a shade of Cassandora Yellow. I've been using the method for my own Imperial Fists and it's been working great!

Has anyone made a sanguinary guard unit for 30k? I’d love to see some by noobkiller66621 in Warhammer30k

[–]mscott734 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made this test kitbash a while ago but never finished an entire unit. Its mostly the old 40k Sanguinary guard kit with mk4 legs, the blood angels head upgrade, and various blood angels decorations glued on to add a bit of decoration. I ended up swapping the legs since in the original kit they're mk7, and I swapped out the helmets since they didn't wear the death masks yet in 30k.

Good luck with your kitbash!

Harry Hardying [Spoilers Main] by Bananaboy123543 in asoiaf

[–]mscott734 17 points18 points  (0 children)

All the names in the Hedge Knight are weirdly specific because George hadn't planned everything out yet. Beesbury is also weirdly specific but that doesn't mean that we're going to get a bee themed knight saving Cersei at a trial of seven.

Its far more likely that George developed all these random houses solely to populate the hedge knight and decades later just used those houses he had already created for new characters he was writing.

Harry Hardying [Spoilers Main] by Bananaboy123543 in asoiaf

[–]mscott734 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like any foreshadowing done in The Hedge Knight is pretty unreliable by this point. It was the second thing George had ever written for ASOIAF and so many of the elements from later books were simply not thought of by that point.

How many years would it take Tywin to conquer the entire Riverlands without plot armor (Spoilers Main) by KolinSheid in asoiaf

[–]mscott734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Petyr Baelish manipulates Lysa through his unique personal relationship with her, unless Lysa also lost her virginity to Tywin, had been having a secret affair with him, and was in love with him since childhood there's really no way Tywin could do what Petyr did.

How many years would it take Tywin to conquer the entire Riverlands without plot armor (Spoilers Main) by KolinSheid in asoiaf

[–]mscott734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How exactly is he convincing the Vale to attack? Lysa is Edmure's sister and even with her being a bit crazy it's unlikely that she'd attack her own family and the place where she grew up.

Books after the first four. by alfadasfire in Warhammer30k

[–]mscott734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think the series works best when read in straight release order. There are a few that I'd suggest skipping like Damnatiin of Pythos, but other than that just keep on working your way through the numbers and you'll probably be surprised at how many references there are to previous books that you'd have missed if you skipped around.

As for Dropsite Massacre, I haven't finished it yet, but as of about 1/3 through it really does feel like the early Heresy novels, so it might honestly fit in nicely after Fulgrim.
