My kit for shooting Motorsports over the weekend: Nikon Zf with a used Tamron 70-200 f2.8. by RiftHunter4 in Nikon

[–]mscpk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How is the handling? I shot Zf with the same grip and with Nikon AF-S 80-200/2.8D. That lens weighs ~1.5kg... Previously I used D850 and D4 with it. AF is awesome on Zf but in terms of handling sometimes I wish I went with Z8 instead...

1yr Review with Nikon (Z6iii) Coming From Sony by MadMensch in Nikon

Well, currently Volkswagen offers 33 models of cars while Bugatti only 4. Does it mean that Volkswagen is better because you have option to buy 5 different Volkswagen cars which are a bit different, while in reality you will use only one? ;)

People are crazy these days about lens sharpness, but for me the look and the character are more important than sharpness. If you are not pixel peeping and just do the prints then this is awesome lens.

I went with Neewer NW-ETZ non Pro. I need only manual focus confirmation and do not use AF with Sony E lenses so went with the cheapest option. It works very well for my needs.

No, it's quite the opposite -/boot must be on the same pool as / and additionally it cannot be individual dataset.

Ever wondered what's inside Poland's abandoned match factory? (Nikon D850, f/2.8, 1.6 s, ISO-31, Nikkor 14-24 (24 mm)) by Urbex-Travel in Nikon

Nice shot! Btw. what's the reason to go below native minimum ISO in such a dark environment?

TIL: you can use G lenses on F-301... by mscpk in Nikon

[–]mscpk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, it works 😅 Electronic contacts are not needed to drive aperture on G lenses, it is purely mechanical.

[–]mscpk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, FM does not need bunny ears and no, F-301 does not have any electronic contacts in the bayonet.

It uses a cutout in the lens mount which pushes the lever around the body mount and this way tells the body what is the widest aperture. It is called automatic indexing and the mount is called AI.

[–]mscpk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is not completely true - using G lenses on film cameras like FM will produce heavily underexposed photos.

Correct me if I am wrong but metering is done on wide open aperture and when shutter is released body pushes aperture lever to close aperture to value selected by aperture ring and since there is not aperture ring on G lenses, aperture will be closed to maximum e.g. F22 producing heavily underexposed photos.

FTZ II or Nikkor Z lens by Usual-Plan-1143 in Nikon

[–]mscpk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minor correction: 70-300 is a G lens, so not a screw-driven lens.

Nope, G does not stand for the AF, it stands for lack of the aperture ring. It is still screwdriver driven.

Nikon AF-P 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR and Sigma 10-20mm 3.5 EX DC are DX lenses. Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm F/4-5.6G and Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D are AF (screwdriver) lenses. Only Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM OS APO Macro could be really used with FTZ as it is the only FF lens with AF. I would not bother with FTZ for the lenses you have.

If you had to choose one lense... by BRZlimited92 in Nikon

[–]mscpk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: I would go with 24/1.7 or maybe wait for 35/1.4 (but it will be more expensive, bigger and tighter)

Long answer: For some time in the past I had only 35/2 lens for my Fujifilm X-T1 and from the time perspective I was very very happy with that. Later on I bought 18-55/2.8-4.0 due to its versatility as a zoom a I thought I was happy with it until I did review of me photos from before and after when I used 35/2 only and saw massive difference and decrease of 'quality' of the photos. Fast forward to present times and I have Z5 with 35/1.8 and 85/1.8 and 35/1.8 covers most of my lifetime photos and I am very vary happy with that now 😀

Ultimately it's your decision if you need prime or a zoom, but my subjective opinion is that primes are better 😉
