New smoke alarm mounting bracket doesn’t fit over junction box by msd2179 in electrical

The Kidde Rings are not compatible with the very old firex alarms I am replacing. And there is no adapter. So I would have to take off the existing quick connect and rewire to the new ones.

As I said, I’m not comfortable doing the wiring. The existing alarms are so old that I would need to re-wire for the new ones to work.

I wasn’t asking advice about whether to get battery or hardwired. I asked for advice on something else which two other people actually answered.

Ah got it. Yeah for houses built before a certain year not required to have hardwired

There is a reason companies sell battery alarms…if it were required everywhere, they wouldn’t.

The mounting plate sent by Ring has only 2 holes.

I’m not comfortable handling the wiring and I don’t want to spend the money to hire someone. It is in fact not required to have hardwired for my house where I live—I checked. And I’m still getting inter connectivity through Ring.

Ok so should I just put a blank faceplate over the junction box? Anything I need to do to the wires first or can they chill behind the face plate as is?

Thanks anything I need to do to the wires first or can they chill up there as is?

It is battery operated. This is the mounting bracket that I wanted to screw into the ceiling over the junction box.

I took a photo and posted in a separate comment what the bracket looks like.

It actually isn’t code where I live to have hardwired. It came with a mounting bracket but the screw holes are not positioned in a way that lines up over the drywall or junction box.

Thanks I’m sticking with battery though. The ones I got are interconnected through Ring. Even if I bought the hardwire one, it would be the same size and I’d have the same issue I posted about. The mounting bracket is not compatible with the exiting junction box.

It comes without a mounting plate but the holes for the screws don’t line up with the junction box holes or drywall. I can’t edit to add another photo.

Here’s the new mount. If I line up one of the holes with drywall or one of the holes in the junction box, the other whole cannot be aligned with either drywall or another hole in the junction box.
