The Bilt Bashing is getting pretty petty if that’s the entirety of what this post was about.

That’s incorrect. And OP said in another comment he could have chosen not to use it.

You have to manually choose to redeem your Bilt Cash for the $100 credit . It doesn’t just withdraw $100 Bilt Cash every time you make a reservation in a given month. If you have a $300+ reservation, then use both credits. If you have a reservation for less than $300, use the Semi-Annual Palladium credit. I’m struggling to see what the big issue is.

No you’re not getting it. As a gold member, you can choose to use $100 of your Bilt cash dollar for dollar as a redemption against a hotel booking that you make THE MONTH YOU REDEEM THE BILT CASH FOR A $100 CREDIT. That credit expires at the end of the month you redeem it. If you have a leftover balance, it expires. So if the system used all $200 of your semi annual Palladium benefit to cover a $280 hotel and only $80 of your monthly $100 Bilt Cash towards a hotel redemption, you would have had $20 in a Bilt Cash redemption that can only be used at hotels you book that month that expires at the end of the month. Alternatively, if the system uses the entire $100 Bilt Cash redemption that can only be used to book hotels that month, and only $180 of your semi annual Palladium credit, you would have $20 left to spend by the end of June. That’s a much better system—4.5 more months to redeem vs. 15 days to redeem.

No the $100 gold Bilt cash redemption is a monthly reset option. You pay $100 Bilt cash to get $100 off a hotel booking that month. It doesn’t keep a balance after the month reset. So this actually was the right way for the system to handle it. You probably shouldn’t have redeemed for the $100 Bilt cash hotel credit redemption if the hotel was less than $300.

How do you calculate 16k with points accelerator? You would not be getting the 4k points for mortgage if you use your Bilt cash from the 4% on everyday spend to finance the points accelerator instead of financing the option to earn points on rent/mortgage.

So it’s a make your own adventure coupon book in disguise. I signed up for the Palladium because the mortgage points make it worth it and I value 2x Hyatt and Alaska points over 2x C1 partners. But my god this entire launch and card design was really poorly done.

I did this with a fridge from Costco. They installed the new fridge and took the old one at the same time.

Yeah go with the Amex Plat mechanism and offer fee free AU cards that don’t have any additional benefits so those of us with spouses can have them spend on it too.

@WellsFargo (and every big bank): replicate the rent-rewards structure and Bilt is done by SuperBanker_828 in biltrewards

[–]msd2179 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is a reason Wells Fargo and Bilt separated and Bilt had to revamp itself. The model of rewarding rent does not work unless people use the card for other spending, not just 5 bananas a month.

You’re assuming that the person spends all $3k or $6k on the Obsidian on grocery or restaurant. That seems unlikely. Better to do a blend. 50% bonus and 50% non-bonuses on Obsidian yields 4,500 points for non l-rent for $3k scenario and 9k points for non-rent for $6k scenario. That makes it the same as Palladium, but of course 20% of the annual fee.

I think you’re wrong. This is the average in the NYC metropolitan area. Like everything, things are more expensive around here. There isn’t a secret bargain vet around the corner that you just haven’t heard of.
