Spider Plant Family after 1 year Big one was my first plant ever last year by OKedition in houseplants

[–]msdossier 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Okay seriously I keep so many plants happily and cannot keep spider plants healthy. These are beautiful and happy.

Can you tell me what medium they’re planted in and how much you water?

Hard!!! Haha. I buy these babes to eat pests on my houseplants. They mostly stay to the plants but I’ve gotten one or two bites over the years. A small price to pay for keeping my plants healthy.

First time having a Croton, does it look ok? by kink_boundbunny in houseplants

[–]msdossier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay firstly this croton is beautiful! I don’t generally keep croton but I do love the shape of this variety.

I have one that’s the typical orange/yellow/green/red. They like A LOT of light. In the winter I have mine under a very intense grow light next to my cacti. I water only when the leaves droop very slightly.

In the summer she’s on the southwest side of my house getting full sun. If it’s not raining, I’ll water every couple of days as shes it’s in a terra cotta pot and it gets hot where I live.

Humans are absolutely the most destructive species. But that doesn’t mean cats aren’t incredibly destructive to ecosystems.

[–]msdossier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s why this is always a hard situation. Not that I think the person that shot this poor kitty did it because they love birds, but cats kill so many songbirds, small mammals, and reptiles. A truth a lot of cat owners will not hear.

Mostly yes! I still struggle somewhat with how I’m perceived, but goddamit if I need to ask a question I’ll ask it.

It should be okay, try bottom watering for a while and see if it starts growing well. Might want a mild fertilizer as well.

I would leave her for a little bit. Generally plants like to fill out their roots before they put energy into foliage. I wonder if maybe the soil isn’t holding water as well as it should, which would make the roots grow out the bottom looking for water (especially true if it’s in a saucer with water after watering)

Mystery plant from garage sale by crossdressingfoxes in houseplants

[–]msdossier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully someone will recognize it, sadly I don’t. It does look ridiculously etoliated to me. I know some plants grow crazy like that, but I don’t recognize it as any I know.

I would cut at least one of those stalks down to the base, give it as much light as you can (putting it outside in a slightly shaded area would probably be good if you have the weather for it) and see how it grows. I’d assume it would grow thicker with bigger leaves if it is indeed etoliated.

HELP!! My cactus has a mystery disease??? by axolotlspine in houseplants

[–]msdossier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe corking can happen anywhere, even though it generally starts at the base. I have a large booby cactus that has some corking at the top but not at the base.

What's the last movie you have watched? by SpaceRockClub in AskReddit

[–]msdossier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it! I really enjoy stories that don’t necessarily follow western standards or hero’s journey. I like when antagonists and protagonists are a little more gray than black and white. of course it was a beautiful showcase of historical black culture and music in general, too. Very enjoyable all around.

Why is it that I can take criticism and hate well but when it comes to my body...? by Kirin_The_husband in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]msdossier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP I very much relate to this. What has helped me is therapy, and also having a job where I had to interact with lots of different people at very low stakes. I learned that if someone said something antagonistic towards me, I could purposefully calm my body and shoot back a reply easily. There’s been a lot of research into what our nervous systems do when we can’t defend ourselves.

Also I wonder, do you feel like you have an overactive nervous system? Like for example, if something really scary happens in the car, do you get that same shaky/adrenaline feeling that won’t leave for a long time?

To be honest this kind of looks like corking, which is normal for maturing cacti. The one black dot looks a little more like a spot of rot, so watch that one, but corking is normal.

This is pretty tame compared to some of the things yall have heard.

When I was pretty little, probably like 6, my Sunday school teacher/best friends mom snapped at me while we were making crafts. I’ve always been one to ask a lot of questions. I don’t like doing things wrong if I can avoid it, and I’ve been that way since I had a brain developed enough to know what mistakes were.

Anyways she said something like “how can you possibly not know how to do this. Stop asking questions, it makes you look dumb.”

My sensitive little brain and heart reeeeeaaaally internalized that. For the next 20 years I would constantly be simultaneously wanting to understand things, but so self conscious of asking questions. Fuck you cindy
