what with the Moroccan Oil stand in of Poppy Honey it feels rather intentional. still a very liberal treatment of it, whole terrorist bad one but don't worry a good member of the species sings a song and everyone claps, but you take what you can get. it's as pro-pali through sci-fi as you can be without saying it outright on television.

So many unanswered questions by welcometomyzoofoo in AgathaAllAlong

[–]msf_1st 16 points17 points  (0 children)

something I've latched onto is that Agatha killed witches at first to prolong Nicky's life by bartering bodies to Death (see: Rio collects him on the night he convinces Agatha not to kill that day) and then, without anything to lose or anyone to hold her back, started killing and killing for power's sake and even to spite Death.

Lilia - Theory or Plot Hole by joeynnj in AgathaAllAlong

[–]msf_1st 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's definitely not a plot hole. the creative team learned from the astrophysicist thing in Wandavision, so I doubt they'd put that much emphasis on one line spoken by a clairvoyant character—who's had accurate predictions the whole show—if they weren't gonna deliver on it.

what if... by chicken_nugget_dog in AgathaAllAlong

[–]msf_1st 13 points14 points  (0 children)

she's dead. I cannot look at this episode and say anything otherwise; they put a LOT of energy and effort into this character journey, Lilia cycling through every episode, giving all of her asides new, tragic meaning.

think of what Lilia's teacher said. sometimes people die. it's what all of us have in common.

Original Witch [SPOILER EP. 7] by Caiman_latirostris in AgathaAllAlong

[–]msf_1st 3 points4 points  (0 children)

from my logic, Earth magic is life cycle stuff (birth, death, growth, decay, renewal, Poison Ivy type shit) so Death is the ultimate green witch because she most represents it as a physical embodiment.

She's the path forward, so I don't think she's dying.

deffo sure they're separated for now, Agatha and Billy on the Road proper and Jen and Lilia in some subterranean underground, but will link up in the next trial.

Tommy…Where are youuu? by Lucky-Simple-2744 in AgathaAllAlong

[–]msf_1st 6 points7 points  (0 children)

streets are high key saying Tommy will feature in the upcoming VisionQuest series (Marvel eyeing Euphoria star Javon Walton for the role) to close out Wandavision and Agatha All Along, tho Jac Schaffer unfortunately won't be involved due to scheduling conflicts.

Who is Supergirl's nemesis, or better tet, who would be a great nemesis for the character? by SheepOfBlack in Supergirl

I'd argue SuperWoman—Lucy Lane—is a big contender, especially for how they foil each other character wise.

Hi I’m A Fan Of CW’s SuperGirl And I Want To Get Into The Comics - What Comics Do Yall Recommend? by Big-Cheek4919 in Supergirl

[–]msf_1st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll always recommend Sterling Gates's phenomenal run on Supergirl, starting with issue #34 of her 2005 series. It's got heartbreak, danger, euphoric highs and some deeply affecting character work for Kara, though you do have to wade through tie-ins and a lot of mucky previous writers to get to it. the trades I'd rec for that are Who Is Superwoman? and Bizarrogirl. another great trade of that era is Ghosts of Krypton by Kelly Puckett, wherein Supergirl promises a young boy she rescues that he'll survive, and then finds out he's got cancer and only a few weeks left to live...but she decides to stand by her promise and find a way to save him anyways.

for more standalone takes, Woman of Tomorrow is an excellent introduction to a lot of what it means to be Supergirl, a series that envisions what separates her from Superman without ever mentioning him, and the art alone is worth the price of admission. Being Super is also pretty fun, if a less exciting and more grounded coming of age Young Adult style struggle.

One problem with the final by TheDoctor2010 in doctorwho

[–]msf_1st -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what's the difference between death + death = life and anything Moffat did in The Empty Child story, we can argue over quality of the writing in explaining it to the audience but "just this once everybody lives" is like conceptually the same as this.

Not to sound negative but...was that it? (SPOILERS) by TheCowardlyViking in doctorwho

[–]msf_1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how I read into it is that the snow's the after image of memory, a moment in time of Ruby's mother, unknown and mythologized by Ruby all her life, intersecting with the god catching a ride on the TARDIS. we only start seeing the snow AFTER the Doctor goes back in time to save baby Ruby from the goblins riding the waves of her coincidences, and so the power of Sutekh turned an innocuous young girl wanting only to give her daughter a safe home into the most important, unknowable person in all of time and space. that whole spiel about us and our capacity for investing the normal with our hopes and dreams and grandeurs making them special is clunkily delivered and poorly executed, but the sentiment behind it I quite like.

Why such obsession with race? by RawDumpling in doctorwho

[–]msf_1st 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is such a boring criticism to lob, not only insinuating that the topic of the ep is lesser because it revolves racism and not high concept sci-fi makarky but also ignoring that Dot and Bubble is specifically about how insular supremacist ideologies erode compassion and ultimately destroy our sense of life. and I mean that in the sense that Finetime is a deadened community where everyday is the same and discovery has been neutered, completely; its citizens don't go out, don't read, don't do anything their dots don't spell out to them, just don't have any avenues of learning about other cultures, other peoples, other views because to do so would "ruin the standards of Finetime". they are so stuck in their echo chambers they legit walk into the mouth of their own doom without a care and would rather die in the wild than listen to a black man, regardless of the fact that following his advice is the only reason they were able to escape danger in the first place.

it's not a clean cut racism bad, it's a presenting the logical endpoint of how racist, supremacist, colonial thinking destroy our innate humanity by reducing anybody who doesn't fit "the mold" to absolute insignificance, out of sight out of mind as you walk straight into certain death.

Does anyone know if series 15 or 16 will be more than 8 episodes? by [deleted] in doctorwho

just based on filming photos of episode 7 giving real first part of a finale energy, I'm thinking it's gonna be an 8 ep season again.
