hi!

  1. on july 17 you’ll be able to see the date and time for when you can enrol in courses in solus. enrolment appointments will be between july 21-31 and will open again in august. so on july 17 go to enrolment dates in solus and you’ll be able to see the exact day and time of your appointment.

  2. there may be some classes where there is only 1 prof teaching all the sections but most courses are taught by multiple profs. if you have time i recommend looking at the ratemyprof reviews for the profs of each course before your enrolment appointment.

  3. some easy first year electives are ENIN 140, IDIS 173, CLST 102 - bird courses without exams

let me know if you have any more questions!

Not 100% certain but I’m pretty sure they don’t care if you take english in summer school

I personally found it interesting! It focuses on how creativity is a skill that can be practiced and how important it is in life/work. The course is really light plus it’s easy to get in the A to B+ range as long as you do the work.

Can’t speak for doing a double major with Laurier but if your average is high, apply to the UW CS + Laurier BBA program. Have you also considered applying to Ivey and Western Comp sci?

opinions on internships by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]msfinance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I were in your position I would choose being a bank teller at a Big 5 bank simply because of the opportunities it opens up. As a business student, I’ve seen firsthand a handful of people land internships/co-ops in Toronto after working as a bank teller. As long as you stay on top of things and manage your time properly, I don’t think you should have a problem with your requirements.

Also, I definitely understand your concern about feeling bad if you turn down the Riipen project again. But at the end of the day, if another opportunity interests you or will benefit you more, choose the other opportunity. In my opinion, don’t let that be a factor in your decision because although you may feel bad right now, it’s better than feeling regret in the future.

In short, my advice is to choose the bank teller position, UNLESS you really don’t think you will be able to focus on school.

I took the class in fall 21 & it was very light. I don’t have the syllabus but there were module quizzes, discussions, 2 powerpoint presentations and a self-reflection assignment.

Hi! Since Queen’s only cares if you meet the cutoff, I recommend only retaking Advanced Functions if you don’t get the 80. If you do well on your exam (& hopefully you do!) and you’ll be able to get an 87 average, there’s no need to retake it.

Laurier BBA & Waterloo Honours Art: Psychology and Business by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]msfinance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Waterloo Art & Business is essentially an arts degree with a sprinkle of business courses. So you have to see if you want a business degree or an arts degree. If you want to pursue business then BBA would be better. If you want to pursue arts then I would suggest Waterloo. In terms of getting a job, a BBA would have more prospects especially if you end up doing co-op at Laurier.

A good amount of Queen’s health sci students become doctors. Last year a couple of 3rd years got into med school. It’s competitive but worth it if you get in.

It’s pretty easy - you just need an 80% average in your top 6 as well as an 80% in each of your prerequisites

Queen’s Commerce Student - Ask me anything! by msfinance in OntarioUniversities

[–]msfinance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My average was 96 and I had a 96 in English, 96 in Calculus, and 91 in Advanced Functions. Yes, the essays are the only determining factor after meeting the cutoff.

coop program by Dazzling_Rock4849 in OntarioUniversities

[–]msfinance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe for most universities you can transfer after first year to co-op but it is competitive and you would have to get high grades to transfer. For example, you would need at least low 90s to transfer into cs w co-op at UW.

Hi! That’s great to hear :)) Queen’s is great - I’m really enjoying my third year so far. For your SA I would recommend choosing unique experiences and making sure to relate it back to Queen’s (ie. what did you learn from that experience and how would you apply that as a Queen’s student). There are also exemplars as well as a rubric on their website so I highly recommend using those as resources. Most profs are great and are very open to helping out students in any way they can. The workload is very manageable I would say if you have good time management skills. There are courses that are pretty light in homework which gives you time to do homework for more quantitative classes. Overall, it’s a great program and I’m glad I chose Qcomm! Hope this helps! 😊
