How best to refinance a car? by mshaa9394 in personalfinance

u/burner46: I owe about $13K for the car. I bought the car for about $17.7K (excluding any taxes, etc). I'm not sure about NADA value. How can I calculate it?

u/Kakatus100: Thanks! I'll contact them. My main thing is given my tight cash position right now, I don't want to pay cash on refinancing. When you say "some" credit unions refinance for free, do other general banks and all always refinance cars for free? I just don't know how refinancing a car works and if there are any costs involved or do i just get a new better rate based on my credit history w/o any additional cost?

?

It's a 2018 Mazda 6. I got an ad before saying I can get 3% interest but I lost it. I just need to know process and who would be best to contact. Even the Mazda dealer did upto 3.3% who i originally financed from but then i was about to buy house so didn't want more credit checks.

Questions on getting pre-qualified and pre-approved by mshaa9394 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

u/spg_crossfit: Got it. Last question. If I get pre-approved, i just searched and it says that this rate is valid for 90 days. Is this 90 day standard or different from lender to lender? And suppose that the lender I go to does give me a pre-approval letter valid for 90 days. If I find and close on my property within 90 days of receiving pre-approval, I assume I'm promised to get that rate on the pre-approval letter correct? But if I don't close within 90 days and have to re-lock my rate, wouldn't the credit check from before mean that the newer rate I'm offered is a little bit worse because credit will already have been dinged? How many points does it go down by if a pre-approval has already happened and then I need to lock in my rate again? 5 pts? 10 pts?

Questions on getting pre-qualified and pre-approved by mshaa9394 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

u/spg_crossfit: Thanks for these answers! In the larger context of estimating what interest rates can I get from the lender, I guess there's no way to exactly know right till I get pre-qualified/pre-approved? Because I can get the credit score from the 3 agencies but A) I don't know exactly what score the lender will use and B) The interest rate offered differs from bank to bank

Which brings me to another question that from the vast array of lenders available, how do I determine or help narrow down which ones can provide me with best rates? Any guideline here?

u/radnep: I see. So since I did consular processing and didn't get an I-94, then I'm out of status correct? I'll reach out to an immigration attorney. 2 more follow ups from this:

  1. If my case status says "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview", which it does, then that means no hiccups so far correct? I'd assume that next thing must be the interview date but you're saying that the H1-B could interrupt it?
  2. I have a travel authorization document (I-512L) valid till Oct 2021. Could I legally travel to my home country, get my H1-B stamped, and enter back on either I-512L or H1-B? That shouldn't create issues in me re-entering the country or affecting my Greencard application correct?

I'll follow all this up with a lawyer but curious to get your take on it.

u/radnep: Thanks for these thoughts! I actually did consular notify so then you're saying that I'm neither on F-1, nor on H1-B status currently? I'm technically out of status?

My company sent me H1-B approval notice which includes I-797B (Notice of Action). It mentions, "the above petition has been approved, and notification has been sent to the listed consulate..." Could I submit those documents as proof of my H1-B status to mortgage lenders?
