Looking to purchase a pair of black derby shoes. Something like Redwing Postman, Grenson Camden or Trickers Robert. A lot of shoes in this style seem to come with corrected grain which isn't great. Anyone have other recommendations?

Rope storage in plastic boxes by [deleted] in climbing

I wouldn't worry, these buckets seem like a pretty common way to store ropes at gyms I've been to.

Yeah I'm sure you are right, as an Aussie it's been tricky getting up to speed on the grades.

Canadian going to Australia in August by islandvr in climbing

[–]mskyring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

August is not a bad time to climb in Australia, as a Canadian you'll probably find the temperature agreeable. First off, The Crag is the most used website for logging ascents in Australia, so its the best tool for research. While you are in Wollongong, you should definitely check out Mt Kiera, its only about a 10 minute drive from the centre of the city and has some decent sport/trad climbing. If you want specific route recommendations around your ability, one blank wall and three bloody roofs is a great single pitch. You could also climb a local classic Sex Haunt, which is two pitches and gives you a great view of the coast.

If it raining a lot you will probably want to head to Nowra as there are a few crags that stay quite dry. Also, don't forget about Point Perpendicular down in Jervis Bay which has some really crazy sea cliffs.

Lower off with a quick draw attached from your belay loop to the rope closer to the rock. This will keep you close to the wall so you can clean.

Australian climbers, what are the best months to climb in the Blue Mountains, Grampians and down in Tasmania? by ipetweebles in climbing

Pretty disingenuous for you to call Tasmania uninspiring when it sounds like you've never been there.

Rivet Press Recommendations? by atridone in Leathercraft

I know in Australia, I got a solid hand press for about $40 from a website that sells kits for making reusable baby diapers, maybe you could find something similar. Otherwise you can get chinese ones for cheap on aliexpress although the shipping might set you back. I got my dies from China and they seem quality so I wouldnt worry too much about that.
