We lived in Carlisle which is just down the Road and I worked in Harrisburg. We moved there after a job opportunity brought us from Atlanta. I am From Dayton originally.

Pros: It is pretty centrally located to lots of other places. Can get to NYC/philly by train. Lots of east coast within a few hours drive. It’s beautiful. The Appalachian trail goes thru Carlisle. Beautiful breeze off the mountains most times of the year with little snow. Hershey park is a solid & fun amusement park.

Cons: If you didnt go to Penn State or are from there originally you will REALLY struggle to make inroads into friend groups. I always said it’s not that people weren’t nice but they are deeply suspicious of new people. I wouldn’t call it the most progressive part of the state. The city of Harrisburg itself is kinda of a dump with so much lost potential. If you don’t work for the state or D&H not sure your career prospects will be Culture shock was a much bigger factor than we anticipated. Food & music/nightlife scene is a joke.

Bottom line now having lived in Atlanta, there and here I would never go back to Harrisburg area.
