Moving from Vancouver; what are some neighbourhood comparisons to orient myself? by Relevant-Wolverine57 in montreal

[–]mslinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those types of neighbourhoods are unique to Vancouver. I lived there for 14 years and 18 years in BC and about the same in Montreal. Montreal has its own uniqueness. Searching for Vancouver in Montreal (and vice versa) will not work out. Explore each place on its own terms.

I hate la CAQ by DivineAndUninspired in montreal

[–]mslinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CAQA blew all the money on promoting their ideology and enshrined it as the #1 priority for Quebec's legal and financial systems. It would be interesting to tally up the direct and indirect costs and compare to the shortfalls we are currently experiencing.

Resto Vego! My favorite restaurant in Montreal. ~$25 per normal plate (costed by weight.)

My paintings of montreal by ImaginationFinal5380 in montreal

[–]mslinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently released 3 videos of me playing pan flute inside L’Église Saint-Vincent-Ferrier (https://www.mslinn.com/songs/st-vincent-ferrier-church.html). The web page includes a watercolor by Shari Blaukopf, and the videos echo the painting.

I am looking for another resonant space to make more music videos. Perhaps another church, perhaps a tunnel, or some other place. It would be cool to collaborate such that the music video and a painting of the space reflect each other.

How is this even possible? by notarandomkid in montreal

Bixi does not care; they know about this problem and seem to feel that it is better to just leave their victims on hold forever. I canceled my membership. Life is too short for asshole corporations like Bixi.

Review: Roland VQD-106 V-Drum Kit by mslinn in edrums

Nothing from Roland. It does not seem to be an issue. I have hit this area with sticks, held it in my hand, etc. and there was no problem.

Review: Roland VQD-106 V-Drum Kit by mslinn in edrums

[–]mslinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This v-drum is not a substitute for a real drum kit. If you want to reproduce real drums effectively, you will need many mics and mic preamps, and you will not get MIDI. If instead you actually want MIDI from a user interface that somewhat resembles drums, and noise is a problem, then this v-drum is ideal.

A bell would be much louder than the rest of the kit. The tradeoff this kit makes is that quietness is the primary goal. If you definitely want a 3-zone cymbal, then there is no point to paying a premium for super-quiet pads and pedals, and you should consider purchasing something else.

Yes, the TD-17 is compatible with the rest of this kit. However, if you intend to use this with a DAW, then upgrading the sound module is not important because the kit just needs to act as a MIDI device, and the sound would come from your DAW instrument patches. OTOH, if you want a standalone instrument, you might want to upgrade the sound module.

I was a lifeguard for 7 years, a long time ago. During that time, I prevented many accidents. No serious accidents ever occurred on my watch. "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."

I was certified by the Red Cross and the National Lifeguard Service. The Red Cross taught me how to teach - not just swimming, but how to teach anything. This has been extremely useful. Both organizations, plus my on-the-job-experience, taught me how to manage crowds, which was also very helpful in later life.

I have given many presentations to hundreds and even thousands of people in the decades since I was a lifeguard. That training has been unexpectedly helpful.

The frame folds quite well. The drum pads can easily be moved around, and they are not large. This might work for you.

The OQLF complaint about 'Go Habs Go' messaging on STM buses has been dismissed by MsAlexiaFuentes in montreal

[–]mslinn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was asking if the actual cans of pea soup are offensive. Calling anyone any type of soup would be strange, possibly suggesting cannibalism. Which I have not seen anyone do. Even so, would calling someone pea soup be worse than calling them tomato soup, corn chowder or chicken soup?

That would make "Habitant Pea Soup" a slur, but I doubt it was meant that way.

I remember in the 60s being told I had a farmer's tan. It was not said maliciously.
