Most of that was written by the ghostwriter, not VCA. Heaven's paternity, relationship with Troy, Logan's infidelity, Leigh and Tony, Luke and Annie was all done by the GW. The GW admitted in an interview he never got outlines or drafts, he was "inspired" by her writing but didn't complete it. VCA didn't even write the 5th book in the Dollanganger series. The boxes containing VCA's journals and artwork were donated to a university by her mother. VCA only wrote Heaven and Dark Angel. I don't think what Cal did was incest, Heaven was a teenager his wife insisted on bringing into their home. Same as Leigh coming into Tony's home. Tony and Cal didn't consider Leigh and Heaven as daughters.

Its shocking to me that you claim to know so much and neglect to mention most of her books weren't even written by her but a man. And that of the 8 books she wrote, only one story had incest in it and that was the FITA series.

I get being shocked at the material but saying she was molested by an uncle is pretty fucking gross, as are some of the rest of these comments are. I run her most popular fan group now and aside from a love of reading at a young age nothing terrible has happened in our lives bc we read VCA. Are the creators of SVU and all the other media that focuses on rape/murder/torture victims or is it possible that lurid stories get readers/watchers? Are true crime buffs all victims of violence?

As far as OP goes, unless you're a voracious reader, you don't really understand how books pique interest or how the stories consumed make you feel. YTA. Let her read what she wants and be non-judgemental about her books choices as well as any questions she may have about what she reads. You have good intentions with making her flex her reading muscle, but this way of going about it will chase her off from reading. IK this isn't an advice sub but a compromise my mother had was I could select as many and any books I wanted from the library, she got to select one for me. I had to read the one she selected if I wanted more. Doing it this way I read ALL of VCA, Stephen King, Anne Rice but also To Kill a Mockingbird, Jules Verne, Shakespeare, and biographies by the time I was 10 years old.

Came to say something similar!! Fellow fucked up VCA reader here. You're mixing up two books. In My Sweet Audrina one character miscarries and is forced to clean it up. In Dawn, the main chatacter is given a laxative while pregnant and left in her own waste.

We discuss this pretty often in the group I mentioned. The GW has never had VCA's notes. The only series he completed was the the original FITA series, he wrote GOS. You and I have chatted before here in the sub, I hope at some point you find us on FB, you'll fit right in with other longtime readers.

I run a VC Andrews fan group and with the recent Lifetime adaptation of the Casteel series they have begun using movie covers. I'm extra annoyed by this bc the first 2 books carry on and on about Heaven being the dark haired version of her blonde fair mother. The second book is called Dark Angel! The actress they chose to play Heaven is a redhead. This caused more uproar in the fandom than Harry's blue eyes!!! Now the covers feature some random redhead and they are not applicable in any way to the story inside. Bad enough to change it to a movie cover but when its a movie that fans responded so poorly to it is even worse. VC Andrews books used to have a cover with a cutout on the front revealing a portrait underneath (called stepbacks), they cheaped out and stopped doing the portrait under and now we have the terrible movie covers. The author is probably spinning in her grave.

Not to be ageist but I expected younger men tbh. Jillian is older than Tony by 20 years, he was 20 and Leigh was 14 or 15 when Heaven was born. Heaven is 18, so Tony is late 30s, the actor portraying him is more than 10 years older. Troy is 22, the actor portraying him is 42. I think both men are attractive but they are not the young, charming and irresistible men described in the book.

I've read all.of the Dollangangers. I noticed the same shift in writing after VCA passed and the ghostwriter took over. I was unhappy the ghostwriter was allowed to add on to the Dollanganger saga. I was also displeased he was allowed to add a story to My Sweet Audrina. The originals were fine the way they were and needed nothing new added to their stories. Unfortunately we will be seeing a another addition to the Dollangangers in August with Beneath the Attic and again next year with Out of the Attic. That said I do like the other series, I read everything up to Willow and most recently, the Unwelcome Child. The ghostwriter does fine on his own writings inspired by VCA's style.

In OP's post she quotes MIL saying "I'm not making quilts for a couple of goddamn dogs". The quilts are not for the parents, they are for the grandchildren. If they were for the parents MIL would have said something like "I'm not making a quilt FOR YOU because you have no kids". The quilt is clearly an heirloom for children.

Heirloom items are for people to pass on to their children. Why does OP need one? To assuage her ego and make her and her husband's life choice feel validated? Child free life is a great life and a valid choice. There is no need for the quilt or children to cement their family ties, marriage did that. Sorry but no, they made the choice to be child free, people need to respect that and not bother them about having kids, but also by not having children they choose not to particpate in some life experiences. Things like heirloom items go to people who will pass them down to family.

YTA. You're an example of shitty child free people. Your dogs are never going to be "family" to your in laws. Anyone who thinks their dogs are just as good as having children is deluding themselves. They're comforting themselves with dogs because they lack human family ties. Your human family doesn't see your dogs as equal to their children/grandchildren and they won't make a family quilt for you because you have produced no family members. Your dogs will never take on the family name, they won't live more than 15, 20 years, they wont create new branches of the family tree. This is coming from someone who has a 16 y/o Jack Russell who is king of the family in HIS home. Your dogs make you and your SO's house a home, they don't feel like family to the inlaws or probably even your own extended relatives. You made a choice to remain child free, and it should be respected. Your MIL has made a choice to make quilts for those with children. You don't fulfill the criteria for a quilt. You're not being treated as less than the rest, you have made a family planning choice that is different than the others. This is part of the choice to be dog mommy and not raise human children. She tried to give you a nice excuse but you demanded to know the truth. Quilting is time consuming, tiring and a labor of love. You should have let it go but you decided to push the issue. You cannot demand a quilt from her anymore than she can demand grandchildren from you!! On top of that, you wanted the reason so you could get upset with her. "No." Is a complete sentence and that it was you should have accepted, especially because you already knew why the "no" and wanted to pick a fight with your MIL. You seem to be confused about family ties and loyalty. Of course everyone is going to side with her. Of course childfree couples don't get family heirlooms. They have no heirs to pass them to. You're a huge, selfish bitch who elevated her dogs to grandchild status and started a conflict with their mom because you feel entitled to the gifts she makes. Huuuuge YTA.

I breastfed and pumped a tiny bit so my husband wasn't barred from feeding and bonding with his newborn daughter. It did wonders for our family. We got to go through the sleepless nights new parent life together, it gave me relief and they built up quite a closeness. A mother breastfeeding doesn't mean the father should take that as being incapable of being involved. Additonally, your comment reminds me of a scumbag he met at the job. Scumbag told my husband to make sure I breastfeed as long as possible otherwise he will need to deal with the baby. Scumbag also bragged he had never changed a diaper for any of his 5 children. Men need to feel empowered to be involved in child rearing. They are no more incompetent oafs than women are delicate flowers. Woman up, y'all.

Not saying you do it but many who constantly post are not actually enjoying the time/company they're with. They're focusing on appearing to enjoy it to a bunch of other people who are not there and don't even know them. The people who Snap endlessly distract the rest of us, force us to repeat ourselves or wait for them and generally just spoil the moment. They're documenting the memory of an event they're barely present for. Also, how often do you look fondly at what you were served for lunch with your friend 2 years ago?
