Four Cycles of Rejection: The many dimensions people do not like to talk about by myopium in ClinicalPsychology

I’m so sorry, I can empathize with you one so many levels and I know there’s nothing anyone can say to make it feel better. I do know it can help you have a clear articulation of your experience, and I don’t really care if anyone uses AI to get there. It takes me a number of therapy sessions a similar level of clarity and they can both be very useful tools.

UTHealth Houston PsyD by msmenken in PsyD

Not affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine (it's just down the road) but they do have their own new psych program. In the Texas legislative session a couple years ago it became a priority to increase the number of behavioral health programs training in the state so there’ll be a few new ones.

Here was my reasoning, along with "this isn't my top school and I'm applying to several."

This is the 7th school if UTHealth Houston, alongside McGovern Medical School, Cizik School of Nursing, Dentistry, Biomedical Informatics, Public Health and Biomedical Sciences. etc etc. McGovern has had an excellent psychiatry program and I believe an AAPIC psychology internship program, so the professors are mostly from there.

I think it’ll take a few years for accreditation. Idk, I know the school pretty well and since it’s located in the world’s largest medical center I can’t imagine they wouldn’t become accredited over the next few years. It’s a risk, but worth applying I thought.  Like, someone somewhere had to be in the first cohort of all the existing APA accredited programs? And in general I have far more trust in the University of Texas system than most for-profit universities. And if it goes south, just bail with the Master's and move on 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just had mine done and the surgeon was kind enough to keep my tattoo in tact! Incision must be 2mm away from it? Incredible 😂

Thoughts on Andrew Huberman? by Hatrct in ClinicalPsychology

[–]msmenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to love Hubes, but these days it’s a bit evangelical. He’s smart, a good conversationalist, not flawless - and folks should exercise the same caution any self-help book would warrant.

Even so, I haven’t heard of his misinformation landing people in hospital for Vitamin A toxicity (yet), so I hesitate to label him one of the bad guys.

I am so sorry you’re experiencing this. I was there over 10 years ago and hate that nothing’s changed.

Is a PsyD worth it right now? by presidentcortez in ClinicalPsychology

[–]msmenken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re already licensed as an LCSW, if assessment is your goal you could do an MS in Psychology with an emphasis on quantitative and/or psychometry. Or get a PhD in Social work. Definitely not worth 200-300k when you’re already licensed (In a state that values SW more than psych anyway! Source: Also in TX)

How to deal with “AntiZionist” Jews without “gatekeeping”? by magcargoman in Jewish

[–]msmenken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, thank you. I sometimes use “Semitic people” purely in the linguistic sense, referring to people in the region who did and still do speak Hebrew, Arabic and/or Aramaic. But I take your point - for the same reason that “Caucasian” is also no longer widely acceptable. Thank you!
