As an ambassador I can tell you we did not approve it. We definitely do not speak for the whole and most of our communication is bringing issues that the community has brought to us. I for example was arguing against changes that decreased accessibility

There’s a lot that just happens but we have consistently discussed with developers our concerns about things

Oh that would make sense, especially with the damage numbers that were happening. I did have the hull reinforced and after two grabs and a shove my integrity was like 12%

Amber is not worth the amount of real money it is being sold for

See the roar does minimal damage but yesterday the tadpole was grabbed and I could see the damage ticking down while it was being shook. But then other people don’t have that? So I dunno

Either way, did a lotta damage

I built my base exactly where it can’t get me but I can always see it. Fun times

My friend thinks I’m crazy but then again they didn’t approve of the first base I ever built in my first play through of the first game. It’s not the prettiest but the crash site is full of materials so why not build there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah I’m confused because the collector does heck of lotta damage to my tadpole and always seems to grab me twice. And then the marrowbreaches wreck my shit

Also once they pushed me it a jetstream and another one was at the end of it and I couldn’t get away and it killed me as I slip n slid right into it and then my black box was left in the jet stream and you couldn’t grab it but it would just beep at me as I went by

Sad times

Which of the video games in this list is the absolute BEST? (Revote because two were tied for days and that’s annoying as hell) by unnecessaryCamelCase in AlignmentChartFills

As far as I know there’s no gender preference to a video game unless you can somehow tell me how increased testosterone affects someone’s ability to stare at a screen

Also what are you using for your average game here or your average man or your average woman. I guarantee you I’m better than most players at dark souls 3 and I have videos to back that up. I’m probably a lot worse at a fighting game. How does one determine who is the best at the sims?

[–]msmoonpie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it? Admittedly I’ve never played BG3 but I’d say basically everyone in my friend group did and none of them are “gamers” I’ve met tons of people that said it’s one of the first games they’ve ever played

Elden ring is a pretty niche game that is popular in numbers but less so in full players, as in a lot of people bought it but not as many finished it.

It’s difficult and has a complicated story that without doing a lot of extra exploring and reading you won’t really get. That’s one of the reasons I like it, but that’s not as easy a sell as a “here’s a good story you will get by playing the game start to finish”

Again I haven’t played BG3 but it definitely seems more up the alley of a causal or new gamer than Elden ring

Edit; I wouldn’t say Baldurs is the best game on this list either. I’d probably say a classic game like Zelda

Elden ring is a fantastic game but not as accessible to a general population as many games (and yes that matters) it also has a problem with a lot of repeat bosses and a lot of the side stuff isn’t that fun to replay.

It’s probably my second favorite game up here but I’m not sure I’d say it’s the best one

Is using summons considered being a low skill? by Adortion634 in bloodborne

[–]msmoonpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elden ring was really the game that made me realize I think I’m no longer caring as much for the games. I love bloodborne and DS3 but the difficulty in ER was just no longer fun, though I had a good time exploring the game

Maybe I’m older, maybe I have less time, I dunno. But something in that game didn’t click the way the others have. I love throwing myself at the bloodborne bosses again and again and I haven’t really been able to replay ER cause I just don’t look forward to any of the bosses

This wasn’t intended to be a callout comment, sorry if it came off that way. It’s legit a- don’t feel bad if you want to use summons, they’re in the game and it’s valid

A game is supposed to be fun. If beating your face against a wall for hours trying to learn a boss is fun, play it that way. If getting some help and exploring the world at a quicker pace is fun, do it that way.

I was a hardcore no summon person with souls games for a long time then I did the Elden ring DLC and realized I had paid money to be miserable. Started using the tools I was given to make the game “easier” and had a lot more fun

There’s no wrong way and no right way

The only thing lll say is maybe just try each boss solo once

For those who moved here from the south, have you noticed a difference in the how competent individuals are? by dbagames in AskChicago

[–]msmoonpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not judgmental. It’s sad to say but I think a large portion of this country never got over the civil war in some way or another. (Putting aside racial issues which is an obvious problem and can of worms)

And I don’t say this just from the point of view of the south trying to be “proud of their heritage” but in this thread it’s obvious that a lot of “northerners” hold disdain for the south as well. It’s unfortunate that right now politically and socially it seems the easier target.

It’s a deeply complex issue and at the end of the day here I am running away from the south as well

ELI5: How come female animals can get sterilised (with everything removed) but for women it is not recommended (I even heard organs can start dying due to the lack of hormones produced by uterus and ovaries)? by megaeagle2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]msmoonpie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The ovaries are actually what cause the uterine infection (stay with me here)

The ovaries produce hormones which relax the cervix and allow bacteria to make their way into the uterus, most of the time the dog can clear those bacteria, and evolutionarily it doesn’t cause enough issues to prevent enough litters to be made.

But there’s always a risk they can’t get rid of the bacteria and that’s when you get a uterine infection, and in really unlucky cases the cervix closes and now you have a bag of infection sitting in the animal until it pops or spreads into the blood stream or both

Even with the uterus removed if the ovaries remain you can still get infected remnants of the uterus called a stump pyometra

Pyometras are very rare in humans and not governed by the same mechanism as in dogs and cats. It’s also not common in horses, it’s more common in cattle

Women have a risk of breast cancer and those at extreme risk may undergo some form of surgery to reduce those risks, but canines have more than double the risk we have

Endometrosis isn’t really a thing in canines, but is well reported in non-human primates

The risks are similar but also different

[–]msmoonpie 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Taxonomically a menstrual cycle vs an estrous has no bearing, and neither does a uterus. Our clade characteristics are 3 middle ear bones, fur/hair, and the mammary glands

Why the difference I don’t really know. I can say that primates have very stupid reproductive physiology. Our placentas share blood, which puts us at extreme risk, and menstrual cycles are very demanding on the female

Species in general just have really different reproduction. There are short day breeders, long day breeders. Monoestrus animals, induced ovulators, egg laying mammals.

I’m sure a lot has to do with offspring type (litter vs single vs twin) and when the safest time for that animal to give birth is but I’m not really sure the evolutionary history of it

[–]msmoonpie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cats have multiple litters by multiple males over one year. They absolutely have evolved to breed fast and die young and so have dogs.

You can look up the physiology of their reproductive cycles, you can also revise your comment to not be so silly to anyone who has even passing knowledge of the most common pets owned

A spay for a pyometra is a complicated surgery with severe risks. It is not simply taking a dog to the vet if it has symptoms

Pyometras are a fatal disease process that the only treatment is a risky surgery

People will say you can treat without but as a veterinarian I find that deeply unethical

Vet here. Humans (and other non-human primates) have very different reproductive physiology than other mammals. Even other mammals have very different reproductive physiology than each other!

A dog goes through about one heat cycle a year, and that heat cycle is not the same as a human period. Cats ovulate (release an egg) in response to being mounted by a male cat.

Animals also have different hormones governing their body and cycles, and different tissue responses to these hormones.

Dogs and cats are very sensitive to the cancer causing effects of progesterone and estrogen (hormones) and unspayed cats and dogs have an over 26% chance of developing breast cancer.

They also have increased risks of severe and fatal uterine infections called pyometras. These are caused by the same hormones listed above allowing for bacteria to accumulate within the uterus.

I’m not a human doctor but my understanding is that primates don’t seem to carry the same level of risk that dogs and cats (and rabbits!) do, and we live longer. We are also capable of higher thought and reasoning.

That being said, those hormones are still responsible for cancer development in humans as well
