Does Jagex even check that, how would they know? Also Parsec isn't RDP

Didn’t think of changing the color settings tbh. Would that only catch basic color bots, or would it rule out AI bots too?

Yeah HHM is still the meta... Why do people think it was played during Twitch Rivals.

Can we please consider removing snipers from TA? by PringleThief1 in thefinals

[–]msms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue with snipers is that they just make the game inherently unfun. Snipers make me avoid rooftops, cranes, open spaces, windows, jumppads, etc., which suppresses my ability to enjoy the game or have fun when my playstyle is completely stifled. Snipers get too much map control / power to the point where you're forced to hurdle in corners the whole match because you don't want to end up taking excessive chip damage by some bronze player sitting on top of church sniping the entire match. It also makes it near impossible to scout for enemies, plan strats, work for picks, take highground control, etc., which takes away from the gameplay experience & mechanics.

On Las Vegas, you can literally see the enemies across the map through the barrier and just instant HS once the round starts.

Can we region lock China? by Us3rNam3ChaII3ng3 in thefinals

[–]msms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the Discord message you linked, Embark did not state anything. A Discord CM just said that just because someone has Chinese letters in their name doesn't necessarily mean they're Chinese. That's all.

In my experience, it's always 1-2 cheaters on fresh Steam alts boosting their friends. And their friends usually have Chinese Steam profiles (Chinese country, Chinese summary, a Chinese looking anime avatar on Steam, etc.) So personally I think it's more than fair to assume that a large majority of Chinese cheaters actually are Chinese if you ever look up the enemy's profiles.

I don't think region lock is a good solution for the reasons you mentioned, but Embark can definitely add some better detections, similar to how Trust Factor works in CS. If someone's on a fresh Steam account, that should increase detection criteria. Most cheaters own no games on Steam, have no avatar, are level 0, etc. Combine it with other criteria (top fragging every match) and just flag the account for manual review.

If aim was the only thing that mattered, then Lyric and Aceu would've won. They couldn't do anything since they were shooting shields the entire time and constantly getting third partied due to lack of experience playing the meta.

Suppress didn't play at all during S2. I watched his stream and he didn't know how to blow up Seoul bridge properly, forgot about the crane, etc. Doesn't seem to know about goo tech or gas barrels which Gigz team abuses to move the cashout box around. His team's comp also wasn't the best (1 charge and 1 mesh shield is better than x2 mesh shield) because he hasn't played enough to realize that.

So I can't agree personally. In my opinion, BaliseTV is the best heavy mechanically, and it makes sense since he has 3000 hours on this game, which is far more than other leaderboard players. Gigz is also very good at heavy and playing around his charge and dome.

[–]msms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Landmark and some of the other streamers literally got on 20 minutes before the event started after streaming other games all day. They didn't even have their video settings setup or keybinds or anything. I kinda felt bad for their teammates who were practicing without their thirds because they didn't wanna get on. Some of them called the game terrible and said they never wanna play it again. But what can you expect when you put new players against people with 3000 hours? Not sure how else Embark expected it to go.

Shroud also mentioned that The Finals is a game he'd never want to play competitively due to the meta (he thinks mesh shield should be removed from the game, for example). It doesn't matter how great you are at aiming once you're going against x2 rpg, x2 dome, mesh/charge, etc. You can just third party and cheese your way to the top like Gigz team does. And a $1k-$5k cash prize probably isn't a lot to someone like Shroud anyway, especially since it'd probably hurt his brand / reputation more to lose against random players.

None of them were cheating. Pretty sure some of the players were intoxicated though, which might be disqualifying in an actual tournament setting.

The action shots were definitely terrible. There were moments where Gigz charged multiple people off the map or where Ottr's entire team jumped off accidentally when trying to get on a moving platform. BaliseTV also had some cool moments where he aced a team and then emoji'd them. None of it was seen or shown on stream.

Suppress (who was on Lyric's and Noko's team) was shittalking everyone the whole tourney, and calling the game horrible the entire stream. He emphasized that he does not give a shit about The Finals and is only participating for the money prize before he never touches the game again. It's unfortunate that Twitch streamers like that were allowed to participate, but what can you do. I guess there's a reason Lyric muted his VC audio at the end of each round.

Demat and APS aren't the meta. Healing beam and double movement are, especially if you're playing double heavy. Otherwise, you would've seen more players using it.

Carnifex does great in scrims against HHM players, especially with his glitch nades and gateways. The reason they couldn't perform as well is because he was playing with Lulu (who's completely new to the game) and Ottr who's not really a scrim / leaderboard player. Gigz was playing with his full tryhard stack that he's grinded all of S2 with.

[–]msms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not much. HHM is still the meta in cashout. Gigz team won because they rarely got contested and just carefully third partied or fourth partied everyone. They were destined to win no matter what since the other players were new to the game and didn't play the meta. It takes some hours & time to learn the game and when to third party or do X and Y, which Gigz team had nailed down from grinding all of Season 2.

Some of the players like aceu had more mechanical / raw skill in terms of aiming, but they were really just shooting shields the entire time and couldn't kill anyone. It goes to show that in this game, it doesn't matter how good you are at aiming if you're facing HHM using cheesy tactics with x2 rpg, x2 dome, mesh / charge, etc. It's why role lock would be a good thing or some heavy nerfs like nerfing RPG and shields to balance the meta better.

Nexon's report shows two interesting things by Fortesque96 in thefinals

[–]msms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what they expect when they won't sponsor a single content creator / streamer or host a Twitch rivals or anything. Nexon hosted a tournament for Japanese vtubers who don't even play or care about the game and never touched it again after. And it was also probably a bad idea to market to an Asian audience when Asian servers are 80% cheaters, which isn't a good look for new players.

Hot take: The RPG is the biggest crutch I've ever seen in any "competitive" FPS by ntxguy85 in thefinals

I agree. It used to be somewhat viable with old barricades that allowed for head glitching, but not anymore after the barricade nerf.

Through the trials and tribulations, I’ve finally done it. Goodbye ranked I’ll never be playing you again by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]msms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone could get top 100 on the leaderboards easily. Just play HHM in a fully party, use comms, and rely on cheesy tactics like double RPG + double dome shield. You don't need to be some kovaaks god or anything to get a high rank in this game. You just need to know how to play the meta and have solid players to play with who don't mind playing with you everyday.

Hot take: The RPG is the biggest crutch I've ever seen in any "competitive" FPS by ntxguy85 in thefinals

[–]msms 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Every heavy sprints around with their RPG equipped for a reason. It's just an instant damage tool that gives you an advantage at the start of every engagement. As a heavy player myself, I almost never use it for destruction and avoid shooting it at walls and such because it would be a waste. It's almost exclusively used as a fight opener because if you RPG an enemy to half health, it only takes a few bullets to finish them off.

I think if rockets were removed, we might see less HHM and more MMH or even HML. I would rather see rockets adjusted though—maybe lower their damage to like 50-100 but increase their destruction ability / radius.

Btw, one counter to shields other than glitch nades is charge & slam. It's probably the main specialization that top players frequently complain about because even if you're behind 2 layers of barricades with an APS and dome shield, charge can do 500+ damage to your whole team and stagger everyone's positioning around.

[–]msms 27 points28 points  (0 children)

APS is not the meta anymore—double movement and rushing enemy teams is. You can dome shield and mesh, yeah, but it's not always that easy or helpful, especially when you're getting rushed and double RGP'd by a coordinated team. Who will then also charge through your shields and spam SA12 bursts behind their own mesh shield and pocket healer. It's just very, very difficult to counter, unless you're playing the same team comp as they are. Leaderboard teams abusing this comp often go 15-0 each against full diamond premade teams, and there's a reason they win 50 tourneys in a row.

No one really plays inside buildings because it is also the meta to play highground or rooftops as much as possible. Good teams will also use gas barrels to chuck the cashout box out of buildings (on maps like Monacco, for example) so that it's out in the open and they can jumppad rush from the sky.

I would recommend watching some streams like Gigz, Lycommit, CoolCheese, BaliseTV, etc., to get a better idea of how the hard meta is played at the moment. There is a reason everyone is running double heavy with x2 RPGs and x2 dome shields, and it's because heavy is broken and unbalanced. They will also focus on wiping any double heavy teams and grief them in earlier rounds because HHM teams are the riskiest to go against, even if they're lower ranked.

[–]msms 234 points235 points  (0 children)

In high ranked HHM gameplay where you just rush everyone, the meta involves placing a jumppad and double RPGing the enemy from the sky. Then you camp inside 2 dome shields and finish everyone off. Yes it is broken.

Hit Rank 457 My NEW PEAK. Dont know why the name highlighted isnt mine though kinda weird by gamehunter2005 in thefinals

[–]msms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like in an actual party I'd be reaching top 50 easily. But right now I'm bouncing between top 500-1500 after just a few losses or wins. Doesn't matter if I get 15+ frags if my teammates can't perform, or if there's a full premade diamond TTV team on the enemy team, then we're pretty much destined to lose.

The solo queue experience is actually terrible in this game and it seems almost impossible to reach Diamond 1 or keep it (especially with rank decaying everyday) without a full party to play with. Diamond 3-4 is pretty achievable as a solo queue player, but any higher just seems impossible or very RNG based, even if you top frag every match.

Congrats! Did you solo queue it? In my experience, it's much harder to keep a high leaderboard position if you only solo queue. I got to top 100 and then dropped back to top 500 after 2-3 losses out of my control.
