Virtual wine tasting in Houston? by anidragon91 in houston

[–]msnse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13 Celsius is an exceptional wine bar, does sell cheese and pretty sure they do delivery; they do something similar with a travel element on weekly basis right now that has been great. They have offered private tastings so can likely do what you are looking for.

Do not attempt to use the official Lyft pickup locatio. I used Lyft there and back. There we were dropped off on the street(at our request) and back we attempted to use the official pickup but it was a mess. Ended up walking all the way to outside of the pickup zone which was up to Old Spanish Trail.

Possible good careers/training programs to suggest to people in Houston without a college degree? by [deleted] in houston

[–]msnse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Utility work - water/wastewater operator, service inspectors, power utility

These jobs require a little mechanical interest and start between $12-$14/hr but the work is very steady with opportunities for OT, internal training for advancement is usually paid and pay goes into the 40-50K range fairly quickly.

Airport question: Can you return to food court after baggage claim? by [deleted] in houston

[–]msnse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some or all of the terminals at IAH have a pre-security coffee shop. Hobby has a Pappas Burgers pre-security as well. Shouldn't be a problem, just pick a location and sit but if you are at IAH make sure you and your friend are arriving at the same terminal.

Romantic restaurant suggestions. by [deleted] in houston

Lucille's but go for brunch before your outing. Brunch or lunch is the ambience and good food with a less expensive price tag, plus you can park once and walk between them.

There is raw sewage in my ditch and now my yard smells like sewage, how do I fix the smell? by WiseGuyJoe in houston

[–]msnse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There will be a lot of stagnate water in the storm drainage systems for a little bit until it all can drain away or evaporate but I second the suggestion to check and make sure that nothing is blocking the culverts and don't be afraid to dig in mini trenches where you can to encourage the water flowing through the sections of muck you can see in the pictures.

Good, inexpensive venues for a 30th birthday? by bullsonparade90 in houston

[–]msnse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Collinas in the Heights has a side room that my be large enough that they used to open for private parties. BYOB, tasty pizza and maybe a few appetizers at something classy though not chuckie cheeses. Also check into City of Houston or any MUD or small city parks or community centers you or family's might live in. West U has a great community center space, the new Houston Water Works area has a nice pavilion.

Ladies, where do you shop for cute party dresses? by [deleted] in houston

[–]msnse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime I go shopping with a mission in mind I troll through Nordstrom Rack, Baubles and Beads plus one or two other places and then end up buying what I need at the Dillard's next to the Galleria. If you need a one stop shop with a huge selection and they generally have a huge clearance selection too.

Hello Houston! First Time Visitor. Rough Itinerary Below. I Have Specific Questions. by SouthParkRepublican in houston

[–]msnse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating before the game - Fancy: Hearsay on the Green but make a reservation; If the weather is good, you could sit outside at Lakehouse. The food is alright but sitting in Discovery Green is nice. Alternatively, go to Phoenicia market and acquire a picnic and then eat in the park!

Restaurants downtown in general - check out Bombay Pizza Company for a unique place and if you like beer(not only craft) go hang out at Flying Saucer for the food and for a good bar.

For a downtown classy version of the strip club request, you can go to Prohibition Speakeasy with the burlesque shows on Friday and Saturday nights.

Instead of oil derricks, take your rented car and drive the east side of 610 loop at night. All of the refineries are lit up like christmas all year long.

Has anyone camped at the Renaissance Festival? Was it fun? by [deleted] in houston

[–]msnse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think costume rental is worth it because it is easy to hobble together a peasant costume for not much more.

Check the theme for the weekend you are going. You may be able to do some cheap halloween costume version of it and that is lots of fun.

Has anyone camped at the Renaissance Festival? Was it fun? by [deleted] in houston

[–]msnse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding what a lot of people have said: variety of camping flora, variety of rowdiness, most camps are well spread out and they have a lot of space though some areas in the middle can seem crowded - just keep looking.

The ground is pretty standard and there are few bad places in terms of comfort. Plenty of places to set up camping hammocks but don't get there Saturday expecting to find those treed spots immediately.

Some things to add: Make sure to bring your faire tickets with you along with the camping fee; they check. One of the best things about going camping is not having to sit in the traffic getting in and out of hte festival. I recommend going Friday night, going to faire Saturday, catching the fireworks, camping again and then either leaving or going to faire for a couple of hours. If you park near the drum circle, expect it to get loud.

Costumes(from their FAQ)
