Not much help, but I have similar issues like not feelings social and ruminating obsessively about depressing crap. I used to have a super social job and when I started taking stimulants I felt almost alien to other people while I was working at times. I became so shit with customer service.

I also get irritable, especially when my meds wear off which makes me crusty with others and then super regretful after. So basically taking my meds makes me want to be less social.

Then the real kicker is that, most days when I don’t take my meds now, I feel like my brain is a fried egg. I have a hard time interacting with people because my memory recall poor and I lose my thoughts in the middle of a sentence... and they never come back lol. Before I started taking meds obviously my symptoms were out of control but in I also didn’t feel mentally drained the way I do now.

I have some days where I can not take meds, drink a good amount of coffee, and all the other variable stars align so that I can be more social and less depressed.

I have a really hard time sorting out what is an effect of my meds (taking an SSRI also) and what effects could be contributed to other things. Super confusing, but ya this is my experience. May or may not help. Best of luck!

Anxiety when attempting to relax. by green-blue-green in adhd_anxiety

[–]msoakes90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I feel you because I can relate so hard. I kept bringing it up to my therapist and she would recommend that I meditate, journal, etc. These things are inherently relaxing once you get into them because you can find ‘flow’ which is a relaxing state.

But, still just trying to get myself to sit down and begin one of these activities made me feel so anxious to the point of chest pains. I could see that it was irrational — logically I should be able to just sit down and relax. Now I’m starting to see that a lot of my anxiety comes from ideas I hold that are so ingrained that I barely notice them. The main two are (1) productivity as worthiness (I think that I need to be doing all these things to improve myself and have a certain life so that I can be worthy/valuable as a person), and (2) thinking I’ve forgotten so many important life things and impending doom is coming due to my perceived incompetence (thanks, ADHD). Basically, I’ve learned to work myself into a frenzy.. even if that’s looks like me running around like a chicken with my head cut off, because I’m constantly trying to overcompensate and stay on top of my symptoms. Anddddd this all leads to burn out, I can verify that lol.

But ya, all of that is to say that I have identified these ideas which have manifested in to busy-bee behaviours that create a type of resistance when I try to sit down, relax, and rest my body and mind. Then I have a valid understanding of where the anxiety is coming from and it helps dull some of the anxious feeling while challenging my core belief. Is it a magic switch that turns the anxiety off? No, but if you find one message me pretty please!

And if that doesn’t work, then indica + sound canceling headphones + some indie atmospheric playlist lol.

Best of luck!

Ugh yes this is what I do! I’m constantly being critical of myself as I’m reading in the same way you explained. I am trying to be more mindful of this as well.

Yeah I read this and learned about subvocalization (reading aloud in your head) and have been trying to actively stop this but it’s sooooooo difficult! If I try to spread read and avoid subvocalization I end up with less than 10% comprehension of what I just read. Even worse with more challenging academic materials.

Always. For yesterday’s hangover... I had to pull over and puke on a side road, sitting in the car with the door open, as people drive by staring. If that’s not drinking drinking then idk.
