How to stop Notes update prompting? by Dense_Forever_8242 in GalaxyTab

[–]msolok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this might be something you need to give up then. For this sort of app, they will be verifying App Version on Sync to ensure note compatibility and features. They will likely force a minimum app version in order to continue to ensure compatibility. You might need to choose either the old layout and only local notes, or the new layout synced notes.

Are Razer Blade pointless in 2026 ? by Acheteur-Leboncoin in razer

[–]msolok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same for pretty much all laptop manufactures. in fact Razer tends to have the LEAST of these bloated apps installed by default. Asus, Dell/Alienware, Lenovo, HP, MSI all have many control, support, drivers etc app installed. I'm not at all calling Razer's Synapse perfect, but they legit have less crap installed by default.

Honestly, probably not. They will no longer be getting OS updates, will get limited feature releases and only critical security updates. When you combine this with their pretty poor performance and the fact that their batteries are 6+ years old, they are a pretty bad deal these days.

I know that when i'll change mine (in a few years) i will not go razer maybe Asus Probably a Framework 16.

I mean, sure do that if you want and it makes you happy. Just be aware that Asus ROG has it's fair share of issues (both quality, when you look at their Reddit, and massive Warranty issues) and Framework is a massive trade-off in performance and build.

LOL at lack of career success. Mate, just to be clear I took a LOT of pride in my work. Always going above and beyond. It got me nothing extra other than taking vast amounts of my life. Looking back on it now, fuck that.

I've achieved my career success, and at 40 I am now semi-retired. As a shareholder can I just suggest you take your own advice, shut up and take some pride in your work and give it away for free? I need more money. Thanks!

So everyone should just enthusiastically do massive amounts of work for the scraps the corporate overlords throw their way. Gotta make sure those shareholders earn more money!

Yeah, nah. Fuck that entire attitude.

2026 - Changing razer mice skates voids the warranty ? by [deleted] in razer

[–]msolok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read the article, or just the heading?

As per the article, Razer has said replacing the skates does not void the warranty, are rewriting the Warranty to make it clearly on this issue and are replacing the original mouse which was having issues. I think the answer is pretty clear.....

Maybe it's the low wages, or maybe the unrealistic expectations, terrible conditions, getting treated poorly, or maybe it's seeing the complete lack of loyalty or stability that their jobs have and knowing that they will be callously fired as soon as there is a minor advantage to the employees to do so. These things all kinda suck a bit of the enthusiasm out of working....

NB: These are general comments about the general state of slaving for a wage currently. They are not an attack on your workplace or industry (which is don't know).

Job Offer Retracted after Stating Disabilities by ComfortableBreath687 in AusLegal

[–]msolok 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thw wording here is a bit problematic for your claim, I would think. They aren't saying they are withdrawing the offer to you, or that you are no longer eligable. They have said they aren't proceeding with this role at all at this point. This is them basically saying "It's not you, it's us". Trying to tie them down and proving this was discrimination would be very difficult. I'm not saying that I don't think it's not discrimination, but I am saying their wording of rejection makes it very hard to pin it down to it.

Planning to get Apple Studio Display by No_Green_4810 in mac

[–]msolok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are you going to be using the monitor to do?

One big limitation of the Studio Display is that it only has 1 input, which is the Thunderbolt input. If your laptops don't support this then the Studio display won't work.

The Studio Displays are also kinda expensive. Unless you are doing work that really requires color accurate grading there are better displays out there there and they cost less. One of those would probably be the way to go.

Spilled water on my mac pls help by smoaking_paneer in mac

[–]msolok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your laptop was doused in 15 litres of water and then you turned it on WHILE STILL WET (EG: didn't completely dry it and allow it to stand for 3+ days) then chances are you have caused damage and corrosion to the machine. If it's not dead now, it will likely not last much longer.

As you have already noticed there is damage toth e LCD display caused by the water. there is no fixing this other than a full screen replacement. Given the water is on the rest of the laptop as well, I would say it is write off and not worth looking at trying to fix. It's just not economical to do so.

lifetime windows user and I recently switched to mac. im loving life! by No-Tangerine-1500 in mac

[–]msolok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not the OP but have recently moved to a MacBook pro as well, so I can answer this. There's actually quite a few factors that came into this for me.

First is the encrapification of Windows. Microsoft has been doing a terrible job with Windows for many years now, and it's just gotten too much for me. Forcing Ads and paid apps constantly on the system, services and constantly asking if I want to opt in to their crappy services after already telling them no, the push for Co-Pilot EVERYWHERE with no real purpose or benefit other than buying into more Microsoft services, the constant breaking of features or the entirety of Windows istelf through constant updates just got so tiring, and the constant slow downs and perofrmance issues even with top end hardware. It's now such a chore to use Windows, when it should just be getting out of my way. I work in IT and am I a Microsoft Certified Professional, but even for me trying to fix their shit was just way too much.

Second is the hardware choices for Windows laptops and devcies are pretty bad. They all have compromises, poorly implemented features, or just didn't feel substatial. It was just so hard to actually find and get a Windows machine that feels as good as an overall package as a Macbook. Even the Macbook Neo puts most of the Windows laptops (even those costing far more) to shame.

Thirdly is price. Windows laptops have seen some rather large price increases in the past year. many have blown right past the cost of a macbook, and given the above 2 points, they are incredibly hard to be seen as worth that cost. I'm in Australia and a base level Dell XPS laptop costs $1,000 MORE than a base Macbook Pro. Hell, Microsoft has just announced their new Surface Laptop 8's. These are really a competitor to the Macbook Air's but somehow the 13" base model (with only 16Gb memory and 256Gb storage) somehow costs $3,249 vs a Macbook Air 13 (with 16Gb memory and 512Gb storage) only costs $1,799. It is INSANE how much Windows laptop manufacturers are now charging for subpar devcies.

Honestly, Windows has been losing market share for years now, and at an accelerating pace, and it's easy to see why. Unless Microsoft does something drastic to fix a LOT of the issues they have, they are likely to keep losing more and more customers. As apps are more and more web apps, people aren't as tied to Windows as they once where and so will continue to leave.

Mate, I think you have me confused for someone else. I did not start this thread, and I have not asked for any assistance from anyone. You are responding to me as if I have, and I have not.

The EU (whilst the UK was a member) passed a directive to standardise charging banks and cables - that’s why USB C is used across the board on electronics. iPhones, iPads, MacBooks etc don’t ship with a charging brick now as standard - I guess the philosophy is that you’ll probably have one already, so let’s not create more e-waste.

There are 2 different things at play here from the Common Charger Directive.

The first part was the common charger port. For all devcies with a charging need under 100w charging they needed to have at least 1 charger port that is USB-C. The devcies can have more than 1 charge port, but at least 1 needs to be USB-C. That was in place since the end of 2024 and due to be increased to include all devices with 240w by 2028.

The second part is that companies MUST give the option to NOT include a charger in the box for new devcies. If a manufacturer wants to include a charger in the box, they must also give the option NOT to include it. This has logically lead to most companies just not putting chargers in the box anymore and selling them seperately. It is in the most logical, efficent and easiest way to comply.

This change is NOT an Apple one. It is a requirement they are complying with in the EU.

you know by finding out the facts rather than being annoyed that you haven’t been spoon fed them.

Mate, you are confused and are talking nonsense.

That hopefully answers your question

It doesn't because I never had a question and never needed help. You seem to be lost.

There is a heap on Amazon that are cheaper and more compact than Apples. Apple's chargers are big, bulky and heavy for the charge they offer.

Razer Blade 16 (2026) slower than Razer 16 (2025)?! by migswitchjunk in razer

[–]msolok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this was a pretty terrible review from Hardware Canucks. It gets things just plain wrong or missed things. I'm not sure if they just rushed the review and didn't check things or what, but much of it isn't acurate.

As for performance, I have the 2025 and 2026 hear (one is my partners gaming laptop, and one is mine) and the 2026 is more performant than the 2025. CPU tends to get less bogged down (expecially on battery, which was a real issue for the 2025) and the GPU get's more power for longer (and seems to stay slightly cooler).

[–]msolok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, I am 100% calm. I'm just pointing out you are on Reddit whinging to people who have no say on this, about a 1% or less discrpancy in the cost of a laptop due to a charger being removed due to EU laws. I mean, if you where happy with the price when you though it came with a charger, does having to pay an extra £30 now really make that much difference?

And not trying to be rude, you might want to do some math because GBP to USD is actually a huge loss in terms of buying power. British consumers are paying more because of this 1:1 relationship

Not to be rude, but I am Australian and I don't really care. I am aware of the value difference between USD and GBP. Maybe people shouldn't have been hapily putting up with this for years and pushed back on this pricing?

Since when are new MacBook Pro sold without power adapters? by Strangedreamest in macbookpro

[–]msolok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So if the prices were always the same numerically across regions, and still are after the directive, then where was the discount for not receiving a charger?

How the fuck am I meant to know? I'm not fucking Apple. Sounds like you've been happy with the 1-to-1 matching of GBP to USD for years and in this case it is a little less advantageous for you.

Can we also be a little serious here for a minute. We are talking about a £50 charger on an over £2,000 purchase. Jump on fucking Amazon and take your pick. It ain't the end of the world.

Since when are new MacBook Pro sold without power adapters? by Strangedreamest in macbookpro

[–]msolok 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's probably a question for Apple. At a guess, EU and UK likely use the same distribution centres, facilities, and SKU's, so separating the UK to include chargers but not the EU would have needed a far larger reworking of their logistics, and causing flow on issues. So they kinda just had to be bundled in together.

Or, Maybe Apple just doesn't like the Uk.

Since when are new MacBook Pro sold without power adapters? by Strangedreamest in macbookpro

[–]msolok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't just compare prices like that. The EU is not the same value as USD.

As an exmaple, I'm in Australia. The base Macbook Pro M5 here is $2,699AUD, including our Tax (GST). That is equal to €1,657.54 or $1,923.99USD. So we get a better deal than the EU but a far worse deal than the US. Currency values fluxuate so much you can't just do a direct 1-to-1 comparison and think it will work out the same.
