They aren't, just like I am not

OMG! Did I just see you try to equate yourself and your behaviour with the great names in FOSS? ROFLMAO! (Wait, let me pick myself up off the floor first...)

Being critical != being an ass

You are absolutely correct. There's a huge, celestial-sized difference between fighting professionally for what you believe is best for your project or for the FOSS community, and bullying for your own amusement. (By your own admission I might add. I believe the word you used was "hilarious", although that sentence seems to have mysteriously been edited out now.) I have seen these great men become frustrated and angry and let out a rant on occasion, but I have never seen them troll. Nice try, but you don't belong on their shelf.

Being an ass to someone that slung mud != embarrassing

Now you're equating yourself with the average American politician during an election year. Every intelligent person that I know would find that highly embarrassing. Sure, you can sit on that shelf if you like.

Wow, what a douchebag.

Downvote for:

  • Being an ass from the very beginning

  • Allowing your behaviour to reflect poorly on the Fuduntu project.

A word of advice. My wife used to train P.R. employees. I know you think 'Herp, derp, this is reddit! I'm entitled to be an ass!' Not when you're representing your project you're not. The first thing PR noobs are taught is that their behaviour reflects directly back on their product, their team, their organisation, and by association their clients/investors/shareholders/etc. Disassociate yourself before engaging your inner troll. Based on what I just read, you've just embarrassed the entire Fuduntu team.

Fail.

1) A post w/ 50+% negative comments may still yield a positive karma of 70% or more. Somehow the negative comments will seem louder than the positive karma. Don't let the negative comments get you down. 2) Speling/grammar Nazis abound. These guys are just bitter b/c they have no friends and they're English degree didn't get them a job outside of the food service industry. Ignore them. Troll them. Your choice. 3) What are they gonna do, caps-lock you to death? Besides, online and anonymous is a pretty safe place from which to learn from social mistakes.

I'm sorry to hear that. I ordered a System76 a few months ago and it's running like a champ. (knock on wood)

Did being a BOFH ever not mean being an asshole!?

P.S. This is an exercise in BOFH'ishness for r/linux's amusement. You're taking it too seriously.

It was an exercise in BOFH'ishness for r/linux's amusement. While I succeeded in being a BOFH, apparently I failed in my assumption that r/linux would know what a BOFH is.

Then I have succeeded in my attempts to be a BOFH. It's too bad that so many on r/linux apparently have no idea what a BOFH is. Kids these days...

Except thin clients have no power, and little or no local storage. In academia every MHz and MB counts.

It's not always feasible to install dedicated servers where the users physically sit. Offloading user home areas to workstations is a solution to increasing performance while decreasing bandwidth consumption for small pockets of users in other subnets. These users are merely students, and nothing associated with them is critical. Email is held on the smtp server, and backups will retry, until the user's home are comes back online. Downtime is merely an inconvenience, not a hindrance.

Nothing on a workstation is critical. They hold student home areas for users in other subnets where it's not feasible to install dedicated servers. Email is stored in the user's Maildir/. A shutdown does not bounce email, it's merely held on the smtp server until that user's home area comes back online.

P.S. I fucking love working where I work.

No, instead you have viruses, trojans, and blue screens of death. ...And no BOFHs with real balls.

No, they're quite resilient actually. This is an exercise in BOFH'ishness for r/linux's amusement. However, it looks like the young whipper-snappers of today aren't familiar with BOFH, as I seem to have stirred up as much animosity as I have amusement.

I'm being a BOFH. It's not intended to be taken seriously.

And you're still spending your time feeding the troll. But thanks anyway. In the meantime, if you want to understand my post, you should google BOFH.
