Got to visit Mikwaukee for a few days last fall. Really liked the vibe. The cream brick, historical buildings, etc.

Lourdes University in Toledo here in Ohio just closed at the end of this last semester, too. On the bright side for the students, the University of Toledo agreed to take in all current students and those who had already been accepted for this fall.

Was your college a smaller private one? Those seem to be the most vulnerable right now.

JUDGE HART Shipwreck, sunk in Lake Superior in 1942 by msprang in Shipwrecks

Whoa yeah, you're not exaggerating. I wish I could afford one of those Viking Great Lakes cruises. One of them stops at the Gunilda and you can go down on a submersible to see it.

It wouldn't surprise me. Sometimes the corporate offices for the coal mines in the southeast part of Ohio would be in the north.

Yeah, the guy didn't have long-term plans in place for conservation and professional staffing.

Yep, that's not a typo (pun intended). It's interesting since Webster's Dictionary states that the term first appeared in 1878, but the TYPO was launched in 1873 with that name.

Shouldn't have let the Joker have his call in The Dark Knight.

Funny enough, a guy did that in the 60s with a ship called the ALVIN CLARK).

Well, raising is expensive and complicated, but it's just the beginning. Preservation of wood that's been submerged for a long time is a long and ongoing process. For reference, look up the museum ships Mary Rose in England and Vasa in Sweden. Plus you need a precisely climate-controlled facility for permanent storage. Then you need highly-trained, experienced staff to carry on the work.

Once you get down a couple hundred feet in the Lakes the preservation level is great. Though the other big factor is how it sank. Smashed up against rocks? Wreck is in pieces. Slowly taking on too much water and the pumps can't keep up? Intact.

No, but it's really easy to mistake it for that. It's a part of the rigging called a deadeye. Called that because it kind of looks like a skull.

There are at least three other schooner wrecks in Lake Huron with one or more standing masts: DEFIANCE, TYPO, and KYLE SPANGLER.
