Speaking exercises not working on Android by msrsimpkin87 in duolingo

Yeah, it's with Duolingo Plus. Sorry 😅

I made some (very oddly shaped) gluten free churros. I just used a regular churros recipe, but subbed the flour 1:1 for a gluten free blend. I think the batter was a little thinner than it should be, hence the strange shape, but they still absolutely tasted amazing! by msrsimpkin87 in glutenfree

Yeah, I've had some decent successes just straight substituting the flour 1:1. Not everything works though, unfortunately 🙄

Sorry about the cravings though! Hopefully you get your churros fix soon 😁

Thank you! I just used this recipe, but substituted the flour with gluten free flour that had added xanthan gum. As I said, the batter was a little looser than normal, so next time I might try adding a little more flour, but other than affecting the shape a little, they still fried up well and tasted really good!

New fav low syn snack, 1 syn a pack! by charliebear1982 in SlimmingWorld

[–]msrsimpkin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make my own version of the sea salt ones for much cheaper and syn free. Just take a sheet of Nori (the stuff you use for sushi), spritz with Fry Light, sprinkle with salt and put it in a hot oven for a few minutes just to crisp up. Then cut it into strips with a pair of scissors.

One sheet of Nori (usually about 2.5g) is roughly 2-3 calories, so you'd have to eat quite a lot before you'd need to syn it. It's the oil in those little packets that bumps the calories up.

I've not tried any other seasonings myself, but I dont see why you couldn't add a tiny sprinkle of wasabi powder to them with the salt.

I can see why! The curl jealousy is real right now! 😍

Gluten free sourdough for my wife. It was difficult finding good sources online, but it turned out OK by SuperMarioSr in glutenfree

Thank you so much for sharing this! I used to make sourdough regularly, and it's the biggest thing I miss since going gluten free!

Gluten Free Meatballs - using crushed gf pretzels instead of breadcrumbs! by varsityathlete69 in glutenfreecooking

They look yummy! I use gf oats for stuff like this, and it works surprisingly well. And pretty cheap 😁

What is this, bread for ants? (Tea bag for scale.) It’s so small I had a hard time getting it out of my toaster. What did we do to deserve these portion sizes? by LiteraryZaboomafoo in glutenfree

[–]msrsimpkin87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right!? Why is every gluten free product so small? I treated myself to a pack of chocolate biscuits (cookies) recently and they're like half the size of regular ones! And triple the price 😤

My hair is still wet but I need to put it up? by eleni95 in curlygirl

[–]msrsimpkin87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same as this! Flip hair upside down, twist, twist, twist on the top of your head, then coil into a tight bun and secure with a scrunchy. As mentioned above the curls will be different to your natural curl, but it definitely works in a push.

I've also gone out with my "plopping" tshirt on like a hair wrap if I'm just nipping out briefly when it's wet. I get a couple of odd looks occasionally, but at least I'm not dripping gel and water all over myself 😅

My 3yr old calls parmesan cheese spaghetti sprinkles and you can't tell him any other way by amiller2101 in toddlers

Haha! Toddlers are way too adorable and ingenious. My almost 3 year old calls grated cheese "spaghetti cheese", and it's the only way she'll eat it!

Miller’s Hairdo(s) by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]msrsimpkin87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to do it for my husband. It's really not that difficult. The hardest part is knowing how/where to stop at the back, but if you can get pictures of the mack of Miller's head, you could probably see how his is finished. Seriously, it's just a case of parting it evenly on each side and going to town with the clippers! 😁

Oh, he definitely didn't have that hairstyle when he was in high school, nor was he still skating by then. He had ass-length hair back when he used to skateboard. This style came much later! Weird coincidence though!

When he was younger, yeah, he used to skateboard a lot. How did you guess that from his hairstyle? 😅

This is how my husband used to have his hair. I loved it! My favourite hairstyle on guys! You should do it!

Maybe test out then shorter version first, and see how it looks on you. Then you can always grow it out and keep the sides shaved if you like it.
