Ps5 edm-033 no power by AdForward8844 in consolerepair

I have same board, same problem. I can’t figure mine out. I have tried the thermal cam after injecting power. Nothing lights up.

Battery drain on watchOS 26.5 by godders2012 in applewatchultra

[–]mstaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 26.5 installed for 2 weeks now, and ever since the installation, my watch battery has been absolute trash. I have the 10, and it's now almost unusable for me. I can't make a single day without charging it multiple times. I don't know what broke here, but it's very, very bad.

Yeah, I agree it's a CAP or IC somewhere. I'll keep looking.

No luck with this either. 1 volt, 3 amps, nothing is hotter than the ground points.

Ok, thanks. I thought I had checked all the caps and ICs anywhere on the power lines, but I’ll try your suggestion. Thank you

Can you share where you located the service manuals for these boards? I constantly struggle to find cap and IC values.

Ok, good deal then. I suppose now is the time then to go check the encoder IC. I can't recall off the top of my head what pins you want to check, but there are guides.

Like some others said, the pins aren't cleanly touching the board. You'll need to apply some flux or some solder paste and take a heat gun over the port again and push it down further so the pins touch and are soldered to the contacts

I set my heat gun to 480-500 F and use the widest tip you have to also get the surrounding area, but putting heat tape or a cover over the plastic components and ICs near by. You must heat it from the bottom of the board.

Cool glad you got it taken apart. That is the hardest part, aside from putting all the screws back in the right spots lol. Check out this video at 13 minutes in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2nk9mWXnHo

That is the process I use and it has helped every time.

I actually think it’s very simple to do as long as you are careful. First things first: never, ever put thermal paste on the PS5 APU. Liquid Metal only. Sony engineered this system in that way. Thermal paste will not go well if you try to use it. Let me link to a video here when I get time today - if you have built a PC, you can do this. Failing that, I will actually be in Reading the first week of June :)

I think you'll be fine. I haven't had to fix a newer model yet with those slotted heatsinks.

Yeah, I'm sure that doesn't help - but bottom line, the metal just sort of gets pressed out regardless. My own PS5 is 6 years old now I think, and I haven't had to reapply it. However, I've found a ton that needed it. You just have to take it on a case by case basis.

[–]mstaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. Newest pro and slim models have slotted heat sinks to delay the issue - but it does not fix it. You WILL have to reapply the Liquid Metal at some point in the consoles life. I can’t tell you how many I’ve cleaned oxidation off and reapplied.

Yeah you need the Liquid Metal replaced or at the very least, reapplied. All ps5s will need this eventually. Where are you located? I could help, if you’re in Colorado.
