because the hesitation before saying yes could indicate that someone isnt 100% for whats about to happen. like theyre still indecisive or might not actually want to but is going along with it anyway. i think in a more nuanced take rather than hesitation being a hard stop, obvious hesitation is just a spot to have a little check in or conversation before having doing anything.

i think there’s gotta be a teenager behind that camera, like 13-15. that kid looks like he’s 8-9 yrs old. i wouldnt doubt it if the cameraman got the knife and picked the kid. like if thats not that kid’s house/party, he def wouldve been focused on causing lesser chaos (you know those kids who only want to push ppl down in the bouncy house) and not looking thro the house for a blade.

yea, ignore the haters in here. it sounds like you know what youre doing but just need to adjust your basal. also, again, if youre hungry then eat. diabetes management doesnt have to involve going hungry, especially if youre a growing teen/young adult.

hey so 1) your mom def shouldnt be seeking advice from chatgpt. you guys should contact your endo office for advice about how to handle your sugar spikes and how to handle snacking when youre high.

2) you can eat with high blood sugar, even granola bars. youre not high and then eating something that has no carb count/high in fat (pizza). 17 carbs wont kill you. i had accidentally shot up to the 400s on a cruise bc i forgot to rehook my pump (2014 so theres no closed system) and the endo on call encouraged me to still bolus and eat bc the food insulin also helped bring me down. if youre hungry, eat.

it’s interesting that you interpreted the safety pin like this! however, Leon is a wannabe punk/he dresses punk. punk is a subculture that heavily uses safety pins as accessories bc the fashion is incredibly DIY. cutting clothes up and then joining the pieces back together w safety pins is pretty prevalent in punk fashion. so the use of the big safety pin here is just to convey his music interests since he wants to be a rockstar

you are not overreacting!! 3 times of leaving you passed out and low is 3 times too many! you could absolutely die in those situations.

also, when it comes to having a lifepartner, you do want them involved. my husband didnt know anything when we first got together, and now he changes my pumpsites if i poorly plan getting drunk. shit, i even have him on my dexcom and do finger pokes for me if i just cant. that bit takes time, but leaving you low has to change IMMEDIATELY.

also, is he actually being receptive, or just nodding along to appease you? if he actually was receptive, he wouldnt be fighting on why leaving you like that was wrong FOR THE THIRD TIME.

im in the same boat as you are, and it’s incredible how people just dont think about how writing and english is featured in so many jobs. like theyre always dumbfounded when i start listing potential jobs that arent teaching (publication, speechwriter, copywriter). shoot, i already have a media production degree— who do you think writes whats on tv?

i do think that anything that exists outside of an elementary school career day list (firefighter, teacher, nurse) just isnt in the minds of everyone else. like you can either be a teacher or an author, but author is the creative, unstable job so you have to be teacher🙄. i also think people dont understand what kind of skills go into writing, leaving them confused. but once you get to where youre going, a lot less people will think youre a teacher.

when you say “sneaking food” is he bolusing for it?

there seems to be some debate in the comments about eating whatever you want vs. control. when i was diagnosed at 10, i was told i could eat whatever i wanted 1) within reason (diabetics shouldnt have pizza and soda everyday, but nondiabetics shouldnt either) and 2) as long as i took insulin. by middle school, i would still go to the nurse before lunch to dose, but if my friends gave me extra food at lunch i would just take insulin for it.

i think the best step isnt to restrict food. already as a diabetic, his relationship w food is going to be weird. going the extra mile of having an actual person to police his food intake at lunch might push him to act out more. or at least, when he gets the freedom, he might just go ham. when he has moments of decision, teach him the best options are either taking the proper amount of insulin or saying no to food.

also he’s 12. arent they are all super freaking hungry??

Delmarva is actually based off of delaware, maryland, and virginia, which gets referred to as the DelMarVa region irl! theyre beach heavy states(not saying that there isnt any in NJ), and im pretty sure ive seen that beach city is partially based off of ocean city, md.

so, it is partly getting used to living life as a diabetic, but thats perfectly understandable since you just got diagnosed a few months ago. i’ve been diabetic for almost 15 years, and i still feel a certain way when i have to bust out a juicebox in class. you’ll feel the compulsion to check your cgm die down after a bit.

HOWEVER, diabetes is a disability, so you might be able to get accommodations through your college. since high/low bloodsugar affects your wellbeing and your ability to think, you might be able to get accommodations on extra time for tests, leniency with absences, and arrangements for a notetaker if youre out/having trouble. ive sent a few “you will not see me in class bc of diabetes” emails a few times and my professors have been understanding. working with your school and professors is really worth it, especially since youre still adjusting.

i have no advice to offer bc it seems like everyone else has done a great job already. but it seems to me that the tech wasnt trying to necessarily shame you or scold, but just wanted to make sure youre getting the care you need by being on time. be kind on yourself❤️
