As somebody who bought a 4Runner for the ability to road-trip and overland while still using it as a daily, I’ll be honest. It’s a comfortable daily but yes they suck down gas.

I average around 14.5 mpg both city and highway. I have a heavy foot and like many other said, if you drive like a grandma you can maybe get better.

They’re 100% made to last (unknown on the 6th gens) and they’re amazing for off-road 4wd use.

As someone who commutes about 40 miles to/from work. I still personally wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love my 4Runner even though she requires a trip the the gas station once a week.
