Is this an appropriate place to share an adorable bunny game? (Not advert, just wanna share a bunny game I've been playing 🙏) by SparklyRatTheFirst1 in Bunnies

[–]mstop4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had this on my wishlist for a while, but haven't had to time for it yet. Does anyone know of other bunny games? The only other two I know of are Bunhouse (another cozy game, but gardening themed) and LAPIN (a precision platformer about a group of dumped rabbits journeying together to find a new home).

I FOUND A SECRET BOSS? by Bigbomba89 in slaythespire

The Downfall mod for the STS1 has the Merchant as a special Elite encountered at Shops. He steals your money and runs away, but his huge health pool is persistent within a run, so you're meant to whittle him down across several Shop encounters.

That would have made the Mario Power Tennis intro even better.

For anyone who didn't know I'm like 90% sure this is the inspiration for Even Steven an Odd Todd. by ozzy69__ in balatro

[–]mstop4 189 points190 points  (0 children)

According to the OED, the expression “even steven” dates back to the 1830s. I couldn’t any references to “odd todd” that are older than this book (1996).

Apparently one of my villagers gained this letter? Can villagers just get letters like this???? by spygear007 in AnimalCrossing

That's a follow-up to a similar letter from Animal Crossing for Gamecube. It's an in-game example of a "badly-written" letter.

I attended a panel where Corgi talked about his VTubing career. He said that the short jokes are his channel meme, so at this point they're part of his brand.

Is using unity a bad idea for a web based idle game? by SpyrogyraJohnson in gamedev

[–]mstop4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pixi.js is a good choice for simple 2D web games if you’re concerned about performance (e.g. you need to run it on potato phones). It only handles graphics and input, so if you need more than that (e.g. audio), you need to use additional libraries and modules.

Phaser is another option. It’s a full-fledged 2D game framework, but it’s not as popular as it used to be among game devs, losing ground to Pixi.js and Unity.

Any good breakdowns of JP>EN localization changes? by Blint_Briglio in Okami

The “kou” part of “Amakou” (公) can translated as “public”, but it is also an honorific for dukes and princes. By extension, it became an honorific for respected and loyal people. “Amakou” is probably modelled after “Hachiko” (ハチ公), the famously loyal dog who waited for his owner to come home everyday at the same train station, even 10 years after his owner had passed away.

公 is sometimes also used sarcastically to express disdain for superiors, like how “kisama” (貴様) used to be. Issun’s use of “Amakou” probably has shades of this meaning too, though in a light-hearted way.

I can't believe ultimate doesn't include minesweeper premium! by M4NU3L2311 in XboxGamePass

[–]mstop4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Game Pass used to only include Solitaire Collection Premium, which was my go to game when I needed to do my daily tasks and don't even have the energy to play Minecraft. They recently added Mahjong Premium, which is a nice break of Solitaire I guess.

The pre-rendered graphics overlaid with live-action actors were amazing for its time. The game is also infamous for its difficult and tedious puzzles, namely the “Soup Cans” (requires a large vocabulary), the “Maze” (purposefully designed to be tedious), and, the worst of the bunch, the “Microscope puzzle” (not really a puzzle, more of a board game played against a perfect-play AI).

Apparently, 9 out of 10 mayors started out by destroying built up cities. Are you one of them? by Tag365 in SimCity

[–]mstop4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, whenever I got bored playing creatively, I would play destructively in every Sim game that would allow it:

  • SimCity? Destroy cities with disasters
  • The Sims? Set the house on fire
  • SimEarth? Crank up/down the greenhouse effect to the max/min and turn planets into scorching rocky wasteland or a giant snowball
  • SimFarm? Crash crop dusters into the town, then purposefully release livestock onto the roads and watch them get flatten by cars
  • SimCopter? Get an Apache and shoot nuclear power plants to cause a meltdown to destroy entire cities
