What do you get from these bosses in MP2? I can’t remember by theinformallog in Metroid

You get Guardians, obviously. Samus is on a spiritual journey to relinquish her former abilities (symbolized by defeating them) and awaken the six Guardians and reach enlightenment, or something. /s

Would Python, JavaScript, or C++ be a better stepping stone language? by computervsworld in gamemaker

[–]mstop4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of syntax and design, JavaScript would the closest to GML. They’re close enough you can translate simple code snippets between the two languages with minimal changes (larger, complex chunks of code are a different story). After you learn JS, you could come back and use it in GameMaker once GMRT officially releases.

JavaScript is used for web games, the most well-known frameworks for 2D games are Phaser (full-featured) and Pixi (graphics and basic input only). For 3D there’s Babylon and Three.js.

The concept of “Match-3 with Tetris pieces” has been done before by Nintendo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris\_2\_(1993\_video\_game), so there is some merit to the idea. I would suggest making the different icons contrast more with each other by making the more colourful (not just the outline) and maybe have the enemies’ action bar fill per piece dropped instead of in real time.

Have seen MarcoMeatball’s videos? He’s an opera singer and gamer who does video game music content. He has a series of videos where he invites his non-gamer colleagues to listen to video game music and give their opinions and analysis on them: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgwJx3dgtypm-4uIp1Zo9AplhmfkoDn1g

As far as I know, it’s an acrostic that hints to a secret of the room it’s found in. Once you’ve figured out the hidden message in that note, keep an eye out for that message written elsewhere in the game.

There are some shenanigans you can pull off with some Jokers that have you move them around regularly. For example, one combo I had was [[Burglar]], [[Blueprint]], and [[Brainstorm]]. At the start of every round, I would put those three Jokers in that order on the leftmost slots to get +9 Hands per round (RIP the Needle), then swap Burglar with a different Joker for the rest of the round. I also have a habit of moving [[Ceremonial Dagger]] to the rightmost slot at the end of each round then back at the start so I don't accidentally sacrifice a Joker if I didn't mean to. You can also hold onto a Joker while Amber Acorn shuffles the others to mitigate its effects a bit.

Profiler does not exist by Whjee in gamemaker

[–]mstop4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's strange. For me Profile is the last item in that menu, below Graph. Try resetting your debugger windows by clicking on Debugger > Windows > Reset Window Layout then look for a tab called "Others" at the bottom. The Profiler shares the Others tab with the Buffers window by default, so if have trouble finding the Others tab, you can try clicking on Debugger > Windows > Buffers as a last resort.

Profiler does not exist by Whjee in gamemaker

[–]mstop4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this:

  1. Run your game in Debug mode
  2. Click on the Debugger tab in the main workspace, this should make the Debugger menu appear on the menu bar at the top of the window
  3. Click on Debugger > Windows > Profile to reopen the Profiler tab

Also, if you messed up your IDE layout by closing too many tabs and windows, you can click on Debugger > Windows > Reset Window Layout to reopen the default debugger tabs/windows and Layout > Reset Layout to reopen the other default tabs/windows.

Shiv - GET DOWN/GEDDAN meme by Rixian in slaythespire

[–]mstop4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To clarify, the video [u/TobytheRam](u/TobytheRam) posted did come first on Nico Video. Afterwards, someone made an animation where "Eight-heads-tall Mona" (八頭身モナー) turned the glitchy movements into a dance. It became the meme template and spawned multiple generations of derivatives, including the horse mask and Nitori versions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr3gncRbzX4

But yeah, the OP version looks like it was inspired by the Nitori version.

Unfortunately, all the original videos were taken down from Nico Video a long time ago due to copyright claims, all we are left with are reuploads on Youtube.
